we're not denying payment to the Escapist
Actually, you are. By not visiting the site for their Zero Punctuation, or any movie they host, you deny them traffic for their site, which determines the ad revenue The Escapist receives.
Surely they could do it so you would have to say, visit the site and watch the video before you were entitled to download it? I know I'd watch it first and then I would download it, if I thought it was worthy of it.
How else would we get the movie without coming to the site? That's what I think stompy doesn't understand. You can't get it without coming to the site, going to the page and seeing the ads.

edit: I wish the mods would tell us what they think about it, then we could stop arguing about whether we're allowed to or not.
Don't get me wrong, I understand where your coming from.
A mod's opinion on this would be pretty helpful I think.

Hey, apparently it's NOT okay to download videos! Huzzah!

I thought laziness over the download tool was the issue, but obviously not. Meh, whatever, my mod-intervention-free posting streak was already ruined anyway.

Your sacrifice is not in vain, Krakyn. Now we ALL know that this ain't right.

I'll point out (at the risk of being hammered myself) (and I'm NOT admitting to actually doing this), that TE can't stop me from using Fraps. Call it an unlikely scenario, but I could (and do) always have it running in the background, and it's trigger button is the TAB. I put the keyboard to the floor to watch stuff (my PC is set around my bed), I might accidentally hit TAB and, oops, one free video.

It's an unlikely scenario, and now I've hung a lampshade on it, nobody will believe me if I did it. I'm pointing out the inconsistencies of the whole thing.

Besides, who'd want to watch stuff on a Mobile Phone screen or a Nintendo DS or PSP screen? I believe the term 'Tiny Eyestrain-o-vision' was used at one point when concerning PSP's movies.

No. Besides its not hard to watch it here on the Escapist, and good for all of us as it means advertisers can continue to do so on the ZP pages which helps the Escapist earn revenue to improve the site. It's better to watch them on here all said and done.

No. I can watch them here, and I want to make sure that The Escapist receives enough ad revenue so they can afford to pay Yahtzee to keep making these videos.

I answered this in a previous post, but I'll say it again. When I'm on the bus, bored out of my mind, I can't watch ZP on the Escapist. In this instance, I lose Zero Punctuation, the Escapist loses nothing. If I put it on my phone, I get Zero Punctuation, and the Escapist at least gets the add revenue of my single visit to their site to retrieve my video. In addition to that, as I also said in a previous post, I come to this site to watch ZP and other movies whenever I have internet access.
Both of these questions are valid, I agree. However, the thing is that, every time someone watches a Zero Punctuation, they register a hit on the site, which means more ad revenue for The Escapist (or, perhaps, more bargaining power to charge people higher to advertise, I'm not sure). By not visiting the site for your Zero Punctuation,or whatever the site hosts, you deny them that hit, meaning they lose out on profit.

I know it would be nice to allow people to download the videos, and perhaps The Escapist could negotiate some kind of offer. However, since they have not offered viewers any kind of method to do so (and, as seen in Krakyn's case, discouraging downloading the hosted media), people shouldn't be doing so.

It isn't a question of The Escapist being "right or wrong", it's a question of whether you are ready to abide by The Escapist's terms in order to use their service. If you aren't going to abide by The Escapist's rules, then it's really simple: don't use their goods/services.

ZP on an iPod would be amazing, shame it probably isn't going to happen.

There are a few videos I like watching over again, so I would if I could.

...well, technically, I could already (same way I do Youtube videos), but it wouldn't feel right.

Yes. There is a lot of content on the internet that I would like to be in an easily available portable format, as I often have short periods of downtime away from a computer where I can enjoy a podcast or something similar.

Hell, if more things I cared about were distributed this way, I'd actually invest in a larger portable media player.

No, I prefer streaming video's in general. Except for movies and anime for quality reasons.
