I'm already in the process of 'defecting' over all the crap pulled in Australia... so yeah. Though it really is the telecommunication infrastructure that infuriates me the most. Not only is it decades out of date, any move to bring it up to standards is quickly squashed. I kid you not, Telstra owns the infrastructure that was originally laid during the era of a 'computer room' literally being a single computer taking up a whole room. Seeing that the rest of the world has fiber optics and more then DSL, and that was a fight to get them to even consider something faster then dial up because it meant laying down new infrastructure, we demanded they update the infrastructure for real this time.

They said 'Sure, we will do that... we just need a government grant.' After we paid them they did what you are expecting happened from the nature of my ranting: pocketed the money then told us all to fuck off. The sickening part is our government just bent over and let them stick it in deep, begging yet for more afterwards, even though they technically have the power to fire the lot of them as the largest share holders.

So yeah, Australia is one messed up place for the techno-lover.

PS: My reasons are far more deeper then that as my BF is Canadian, pity me I know, and most of my friends live in North America. However, my rant does still stand though: Australia sucks when it comes to technology.

Nobody would be able to enforce that law. I'd continue gaming as usual, breaking the law every time I booted up Steam. What are they gonna do, shut down every developer based in the US?

Also, inb4 failed 18th Amendment

No. For one thing, it wouldn't happen in America, and if it did I could always stand up for it and make it legal again. Also, it would be nearly impossible to actually enforce it so I could still secretly play.

And if there was some crazy way for it to actually be banned forever and there was no way to get it unbanned and no way to hide, I would probably just... do something else. Honestly, I spend so much time and money on gaming that it's definitely not good for me. I would probably watch more movies and read more books and improve my life in general.

I'd move to New Zealand.

They also have better gun laws than here.
Gaming and guns...... I'm happy.

[sub]Actually, I might move there anyway.[/sub]
Holy smokes! You Aussies may not realize it, but like 60% of New Zealanders go on and on about how they want to move to Australia and how it is such a better place. The grass always is greener I guess.

OT: I would probably move to the UK from New Zealand. However I wouldn't say I was moving for games. I would say something along the lines of job opportunities. My girlfriend is hardly a gamer and would leave me on the curbside if I said I was moving countries for games alone. Anyways it is my plan to go to the UK eventually one day anyway. Two birds with one stone.

Yes, because if they banned video games, they are probably insane, or republican, and this would mean that other things were likely happening that were far worse

When I have the money for it, without a doubt. Not only because it's part of my lifestyle, but because any country that would ban games is a country for silly people.

Civil Disobedience much? Conscientious objector. Also, the government prefers unarmed peasants.

I'd move, but not so much because of the video game ban, but because of the idiots in the white house that would let such a law pass.

If Little Big Planet and Minecraft have taught me anything, it's that gamers are extremely clever and resourceful.

I'd stay and black market game.

Viva la revolution!

It wouldn't be the only cause of me moving from the U.S. I'm sick of living in this corportocracy as it is.

Take away my video games, that's just the last fuck you. I'd stay for a little while, fighting as hard as possible. If it was to no avail, I would flee the impending police state. If they outlaw gaming, music is probably next for severe censorship at least, and that's my next biggest hobby. Make a pattern of killing fun, and I'm getting the fuck out.
There is a cool little clause in the constitution that says as U.S.citizens we can break unjust laws. So you can still play video games and music, even if the goverment says no. Besides the Supreme Court said last year that video games were under the first amendment so no need to worry.
At that point, they've already gang raped the constitution. I don't think that little clause is going to keep them from imprisoning people.

This is a hypothetical. I'm just going by those parameters.

Probably move to Canada, if I had to. Mind you, what with constitutional laws and all, it's not likely that the U.S. is going to ban gaming any time soon or at all, but that's still what I'd do if they did.

it must be funny to be an Australian on this thread, cause gaming is well on its way to that there.

OT: no. Gaming is not big enough in my life to make me want to leave the US. besides, you could always underground game on old games. The government cant really stop you unless they do monthly/weekly/daily/hourly/minutely checks to see if you are or unless you go online in some way.
