I would, but it's a horrible topic.

Scenario 1 - A girl offers that you punch her arm. You defer, trying to explain that women are weaker or similar. She calls you a sexist pig.

Scenario 2 - A girl slaps you hard across the face after you annoy her or similar. You hit her back, whether by punch / slap, and she calls you a pig for hitting a woman.

You cannot win.

I don't generally make a habit out of hitting *anyone*, regardless of gender.

That said, I do believe I would be less likely to hit a female than a male, possibly exempting extreme situations. Not totally sure why, I just feel less inclined to hit them(even in a joking, slap on the back manner). If that makes me sexist then, well, I guess I am.

Hey if a girl is hitting me I'll defend myself because I know that I could disarm her with one well placed shot. I would not beat a woman no matter what she said to me and the same usually goes for men. I'd be more likely to hit a man but I really try not to hit anyone.

I don't think women should somehow be exempt from being hit just because she's a woman, but I don't think it should be a policy of anything other than self defense.

Only if the woman in question could possibly beat the shit out of me, threw the first punch, and was sober. Under most other circumstances no, it would be uncivilized to hit a woman and should be avoided if at all possible. Sure there's gender equality and all that but it doesn't mean that chivalry is completely dead (besides it's the thing that makes guys better people, amiright guys?;> ).

I like to think of myself as a progressive person, and as such I believe in true equality among the sexes. What that means to me is trying, as much as I can, to ignore what someone is and instead focus on who someone is. I recognize that it's a naive way to live, but it's the best I can do for now.

So, a bit more on topic? I rarely hit anyone in anger, but when I do I make sure they've earned it.

Am I less likely to hit a woman because she's a woman? Maybe. I know it goes against what I've just said, but it's true. My subconscious reactions to women lead me to give them the benefit of the doubt, because they are women. It's a problem, I'm working on it.

tl;dr: if she ain't got my money, or my sammich. =-{P

I suppose the only time I would consider hitting a woman is in self defence as in if she is attacking / trying to kill me.

Any other time like getting in a fight over a argument, never seeing how I don't hit people in general.

In the event I am violently attacked, by all means I will fight back.

The rule that I make clear to all my girlfriends is this:

You hit me in the balls when I am neither 1) Trying to kill you or 2) Trying to rape you and I will hit you back. I don't care how mad at me you are.

Thankfully, my current SO isn't a physically violent person so there has been no need of hitting at all... just some verbal disagreements that usually revolve around how we should spend our free time :)

Pimp slap em errday.

I kid, in all seriousness though you shouldn't hit anybody ever. Male or female, unless its in self defense. I punched my ex in the face because she came at me with a knife, the freaking whacko.

This is not a popular phrase, since it has been missused greatly. Yet it is still true: Equal but different. I'm not saying woman have less potential then males, or should have less rights. Under the right circumstances I have no problems with hitting a male. For us violence can be a functional way of communication. But to me it's common decency to thread woman differently. I often have guests who are strangers over, both male and female. And I simpely thread them differently. I'm more carefull and polite with them, and no feminist bullshit is going to make me act differently.
Also if by any strange course of events I were to hit a woman, I wouldn't be hitting her because she hit me back. The concept of an eye for an eye is utterly retarded, and has baffelled me ever since I was 12. If I were to hit someone it would because I truly want to stop their course of action. Natrually I didn't like being hit, but unless I'm beeing beaten to an inch of my live, I wouldn't be so desperate to end the aggression by using violence myself. But with a male I can imagine myself resorting to violence, with a female I can not.

I don't care about gender. If no one hits me, I hit no one. I someone hits me and doesn't sincerely apologize for it, I return fire.

The whole "weaker gender" argument doesn't convince me. Women are every bit as capable of effective combat as men.

I don't condone violence in general. However, if violence is needed, then the gender of the participant shouldn't be relevant.

Well I've always maintained that anyone that throws a punch can expect get one back, regardless of gender.
