Here is a very simple question but I'll make the machine itself and what it does complicated.

In many years from now, a time machine is invented. Only you may use it! The use of the machine is free of charge. To use it, however, you must leave behind everything. And that's not just your house or your pet or some possessions... everything. Even your clothes. That's right, you must go without any form of clothing into the machine and see what happens. And even then, there is a small chance that you will not survive the trip (due to the foreign items we have in ourselves). But do not worry, the machine is 100% legit and you'll not go into someone sex chamber or something. xD

You may choose whatever year, or date you want to go in the future, beginning from 2100. The reason why is because the scientists calculated that you'll die before that year so you won't have the risk seeing yourself in the future, which would cause a crack in the time continuüm.

Seeing as there are time machines built everywhere in the world by then, you can return. I say you can, but you probably won't. When you want to return back in time, you cannot choose when or where you'll end up. You could be right in the middle of the trenches back in '40-'45. Or you'll have dinosaurs chasing you about a million years ago, so going back in time is a serious risk, but you are allowed to do it, it's your life.

No. Even without the strings attached here (chance of immediate death, "probable" chance of never returning), time travel is a crazy madman's dream. The practical problems with it are so huge and all-encompassing that you'd likely get no joy from it whatsoever.

Yes, but beware of the [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.201912-A-Discussion-about-Time-The-Blinovitch-Limitation-Effect] risks [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.203130-A-Discussion-about-Time-The-Illusion-of-Time-Time-Streams] of [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.204135-A-Discussion-about-Time-Travel-to-the-Past] time [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.208546-A-Discussion-about-Time-Travel-to-the-Future] travel! I would go back 10 years for reasons I won't disclose

I can't go back in time? Weak. I was looking forward to screwing things up as much as possible without causing the end of the world.

Opportunity of a lifetime. Of course.

[sub]I'd have a kid before I leave so I could return to my family.[/sub]

why live without risk, if i was meant to die on a trip in a time machine, then i accept it, so yes, i would go in, i'd probably go to to the 50's just because i enjoy that time period, i assume i can't become famous for fear of my future self learning about me? i'd probably bum around, do some research on stocks for the year to get enough cash to just get by and start a life, and live it up yo

If my life sucked enough, then sure. Right now I have enough to make me say no to this. It's just giving up too much for something too risky. If I had nothing to live for, I guess I'd go in the time machine.

If time travel was possible.. Dont you think someone in the future would have invented it and traveled back in time so that we would know about it?

In my conclusion, time travel is not possible now and never will be..

But on point: No i would not have traveled in time unless i was sure of survival and knew what time i could travel to.. Also, i would travel back in time, invent stuff that has already been invented and make a flockin fortune..

Unless new, parallel timelines are created when someone travels through time.

Besides, if someone came back from the future, would anyone really believe them? No.

Hell yeah I'd go to the year 2999 and end the world by dividing by zero at exactly 11:59 pm on 31. dec. Take that future.
or at least try.

Consider this. If ever anyone went back in time to our time, they would effectively be making their own timeline, from which there would be no escape even if they changed nothing.

Quantum randomness would alter things just differently enough to make a difference over the long term, making any travel back to the same future that they knew quite improbable, if not impossible (I won't discount the ingenuity of future engineers).

Of course, if you're going back in time to make a fortune, you probably don't care about never getting back to your own time. You also probably don't want everybody knowing that you used a time machine, lest the time police that you unwittingly created come back to stop you.

Also, what if UFO sightings are actually just human time travellers? It would make sense to me.

BUT! On topic, if I could go back in time, I wouldn't. Probably wouldn't be able to get back. Not only that, but paradoxes make me queasy.

Incidentally it was the first world war that was trench warfare (1914-18) but that's irrelevant. OT: OF COURSE!!!!! well, possibly. If I was told before hand that the world wasn't in global thermonuclear war or something at the date I went to, then yeah why not.
