Yeah it would be pretty cool. It'll probably just get to a point where everything is too real and just freak everyone out.

Some things like TF2 need to look whimsical in order to be fun, but such a thing might work in a somthing like a horror game which needs you to become fully immirsed befor you can enjoy the whole thing.

"It's an uneven slope" is the only thing I can say for sure.

Only if they manage to make it like I'm in the matrix.

Otherwise I'll manage with Minecraft.

The closer to real life graphics get, the more put off I am. And not just because of the uncanny valley effect either. It's times like this that I get nostalgic for SNES and PS1 era graphics.

The big producers would never go for it. Real life has far too much light and far too little brown for them to be able to make a AAA title out of. You know how loath they are to mess with a formula that works.

Already happened. See: Crysis
.....BWAHAHA.. no.

Also, no I wouldn't hate it if games looked like real life. Unless they made it look like real life, and that was all the work they put into it so they game sucked.

They'd have to do a -really- damn good job though.

When you mention it, yes, yes I would.

There needs to be at least some distinction, otherwise it wouldn't be as interesting to look at.

For example; while Crysis still looks amazing it has a slight cartoony feel to it making it clear it's a game.

Also I just prefer stylized graphics in general.

I wouldn't want ALL games to look real (like mario, or okami), but as long as they're trying to look real, it would be very nice to jump over the uncanny valley.

No - The only thing that I would dislike about every single game in existance looking like reality is the demand that would have on processors.

Seriously, I would sodding LOVE games to look like real life. Immersion + 1000.

It definitely would have niche appeal (see war sims like Americas Army 3) but I wouldn't want it in my Team Fortress 2 or Starcraft 2.

lawl. so true.

ot: it'll happen eventually, with some games, like heavy rain, i think it would help with immersion, but others, no thank you, i love my cartoony colors and awesome fantasy colored worlds with rpg's

Oh god, I can already hear the screams directed at GTA, Mass Effect and any game with a minimal degree of violence.

GTA + Real Life graphics + Kinect = SHIT MEET FAN!

On the plus side, producers would have their brown. :p

I dunno... in some ways it could be great. In other ways it could run the risk of detracting from what makes games fun. I mean it could make them feel less "fantastical"

Even games that try to be as real world as possible (insert your own example) hold a degree of "wow dude that was unreal"!!! which I think could be lost if things looked photo real.

Problem is, I think if it was possible to make things look like real life, you couldn't then continue to make other games in the "comic" style of games current, the mass consumer market wouldn't go back to the sub-real standard even if it suited that game. Hell it happens now, some people won't buy a game if it doesn't look JUST like MW2 etc (not saying I think those games look great at all, but you guys know what some people are like), alot of people (morons as they are often known) would think "Oh it doesn't look as good as <photo-real game here>, there-for it's shit"

The thing is, if they don't completely nail perfect realism (especially for character models), the Uncanny Valley rears its ugly head.

Real life -graphics would be awesome. Different games need different graphics, and that would fit realistic games like a glove.
