I'd buy it on Christmas if I had the money. But I wouldn't have the money, so a January release date is good for me.

Does anyone know is the PS vita can play PSP games, because the number of purchases they get is probably entirely dependent on this aspect alone.
They are backwards compatible with every downloadable PSP game.

Vita for Christmas, you got to be having a laugh.

I'm at that age when I'm lucky to get a pair of socks, let alone a handheld.

ah I see

yeah I dont see much apeal in handheld gaming thease days, I dont particually feel the need to game every waking second of the day
Neither do I, but that didn't stop me busting out my GBA for a bit of Metroid Fusion at the airport the other day :p

Handheld gaming isn't about "playing games whenever and wherever you are", it's more about "you will not always have a TV & Console or a PC available". Long train rides? DS is perfect for that. Killing time in the waiting room at a Doctor's office? Fire up the PSP. Obviously you can play them whenever you like, but handhelds offer a lot more flexibility with when and where you can use them - especially ones like the DS where you can literally just pause the game indefinitely by closing the lid and resume at any time by opening it.

OT: Personally, I didn't like the PSP and I don't think this Vita looks much better. I've always preferred Nintendo's handhelds.
true, however I play enough games as it is..I really should use that kind of time to read a book or somthing (and my ipod usually surfices as well)

anyway Im a little behined on the handheld scene, what were the capabilities of the PSP/PS-vita?

like what era type games are we talking? ps1? ps2?

I'm not at all impressed by the Vita. It doesn't look like a console as much as a bunch of pointless gimmicks loosely clobbered together. Two analog sticks sounds good, but overall it strikes me as unnecessary purchase.

Besides: As far as I can see, the Vita doesn't have a slot for actual game cartridges, relying instead entirely on downloads. I don't want to support consoles of this type, as regular game shops will be put out of business if download-only consoles should prove popular enough to take over!

It is back compatible with all downloadable psp titles and minis(they haven't said if they'll release a UMD adapter yet)

Yes I would have, and I'm still gonna get it.

UNCHARTED PORTABLE, BBY. That in itself sold the handheld to me.

Well, would you look at that. I did notice the bit about the NVG card in the Wikipedia article, but from how it was described there, I thought it was a kind of new, fancy memory card.

Congratulations, you have sort of changed my mind - I still don't feel like running out and getting a Vita any time soon, but if it gets PLENTY of good games, I might eventually be persuaded!

No. I have a PSP that works just fine. I don't need to spend ridiculous money for basically the same thing but with a touch screen.

It doesnt have a disc drive, don't think sacrificing a large chunk of games i like for the sake of having them on weird memory stick thingies on a Vita would justify getting one...

The PSN is pretty much behind on releases, and some games might not even come to the PSN like the Non-JP versions of Mega Man Powered Up.

Actually I may be wrong on this, but I think Sony confirmed that all Vita games would have a simultaneous PSN release.
