KOTOR is the only Bioware game I don't like (except DA2, obviously) so I probably wouldn't have cared for KOTOR3. I also don't play Mumorpuers so I'm not gonna get TOR.

What I really would like is Jade Empire 2 or a new IP from Bioware.

Unlike many people, I put writing in RPG's as a more important factor than I do the gameplay, so therefore I have to go with Obsidian. Kotor 1's story is good, but very shallow and riddled with black-and-white storytelling, which kind of ruined it. Aside from gameplay, Kotor 2 outmatches the first game in ever sense.

What Kotor 2 does better:
Deeper and more interesting characters.
Less black-and-white and less dependant twists to make its story interesting.
A MUCH better plot.
Much better dialogue and less dependant on the Jedi-Sith alignment.

What Kotor 2 does worse:
Kotor 2 has worse gameplay than the Kotor 1, which already had godawful gameplay.
The game is incredibly buggy.
The game is incomplete if you do not download content-restoring mods.

So in the end, Kotor 2 is just that much better for me and if Obsidian actually got the opportunity to work at their own pace, I'd rather have them do it. Although it would be more ideal if this was a joint operation.

EDIT: I am shocked but pleased that Obsidian is currently in the lead. I expected it to lose by a mile due to the love for Bioware and especially Kotor 1 on this forum.

Oh I dont know...biowares was less buggy and had a more solid story, though, Obsidian's was more atmospheric. to me its like saying would i like majora's mask or ocarina more. I would have to go with the Majora's mask or Obsidians Kotor 3.

I never played beyond the tutorial of KoTOR, but I'm also not a fan of MMOs, although TOR appears to not suffer from most of my problems with MMORPGs.

I can't say either way. I just want more good Star Wars games.

Hell, give me another Star Wars Battlefront.

I'd have enjoyed KOTOR III by either Obsidian or BioWare. Chris Avellone's writing was fantastic in KOTOR II, so Obsidian gets my vote.

Put it this way - I definitely would have bought KOTOR 3, produced by either company (preferably Bioware for quality control reasons, but I'd totally play an Obsidian title too).

The Old Republic, on the other hand, I'm probably never going to play because I don't care about mumorpergers.

To quote an ol' meme:

Really, one doesn't have to exclude the other. I'd love both a deep singleplayer game ala KotOR and a Star Wars MMO.

And that, most definitely that. I never got to play it during it's peak, but I sure saw it's potential when I checked it out a couple months ago.

It was Lucas Arts that put KOTOR 3 to a halt as they thought that they would get more money out of TOR! Both Bioware & Obsidian expressed interest at making the third game.

As Bioware are doing the Old Republic im guessing that it would have to be down to Obsidian. And if they don't have to have a ridiculous time frame in which to make it then I think it would be a really great game. Im sure KOTOR 3 is one of the reasons that Bioware made TOR 300 years after KOTOR.

There is a restorartion mod for KOTOR II in which dedicated players have put everything back into the game that Obsidian wasn't able to finish at the time. Definately would recommend.

Also the ending of KOTOR 2 has me screaming to find out what happens next!

Yes, I'd definitely buy SWTOR if it was a single player game. It's a good game but it's not a good MMO.
And why do you keep saying that? Just because you don't like it when someone else walks around with the same companion as you? As an MMO it's fine actually, it does pretty much everything one could expect from a subscription MMO these days.
If this is what we should expect from a subscription MMO these days then thank god for the rise of F2P.

Yes, I find the identical companions jarring, but they're not my biggest problem with The Old Republic, though they are the most obvious example of Bioware taking an element from their single player games and just bolting it onto an MMO with little regard for whether or not it makes sense.

Like I said, not my biggest problem though. That would be the absolutely crushing linearity of the game... and the flat, lifeless worlds with their rubbish weather effects and inexplicable absence of a day/night cycle... and the "you are the chosen one and so is everyone else" story... and that every class is a pet class... and the fact that it plays like World of Warcraft: Star Wars Total Conversion. Really, if I wanted to play WoW I'd, y'know, play WoW.
That's just personal preference and really doesn't make the game bad. For example, on the servers I play the worlds certainly aren't lifeless. And your story is indeed personal, and that's the whole point. This was always the case, a questgiver in WoW also saw you and only as his saviour. Or delivery service, whatever.

The only legitimate criticism could be the absence of a day/night cycle, which is a minor complaint.

The rest just seem like pet peeves, really. Which are perfectly valid reasons for not liking a game. Just not enough to outright qualify it as bad.

KOTOR 3. I enjoyed both KOTOR 1 and 2, and I don't really mind if Bio or Obsi make it, though it would be an easier decision in favour of Obsi if the Bio version was Origin exclusive.

KoTOR III by Obsidion. The first two were both utterly amazing, but number II was just slightly better. Personally, I hate MMO's. Paying $15 a month to be able to run around with a bunch of other people isn't fun for me. I really wish they had done another game instead.

It's probably contrary to some rule of forum debate, but I'm actually going to agree with you.

The thing is, every post I've ever made on this forum is a personal opinion, informed by, as you say, my personal preferences. I don't feel the need to add qualifiers ("in my opinion") onto every comment I make because I take it as a given that what I read from others is that, rather than statements of fact, and assume others take my posts the same way.

Indeed the only one of my criticisms I described as 'fact' was the extreme similarity to WoW's gameplay, which is fairly indisputable to anyone who has played WoW, and has experience of other MMOs that do things differently.

So if I was rephrasing my original comment I'd say "SWTOR is a good game, but while I'd enjoy it if it were a single player game it's very far from what I'd look for in an MMO, which makes it a bad MMO... in my opinion."

Exact same meaning, just more words.

KoTOR III, naturally. I want to find out who that big mysterious enemy is that they were alluding to all throughout KoTOR II. And I'd want Obsidian to do it because Bioware is inexplicably tied to EA now and I HATE EA and won't touch anything with their filthy fingerprints on it.

Well in that case, like most arguments on the internet, ours stemmed from a confusion about semantics. It sometimes is really hard to convey your true meaning via text. Or if you do, for everyone to understand it.

Anyway, with this cleared up I'd say we've reached consencus. Yay!

Soingle-player KotOR all the way. Between Obsidian and Bioware, it's a tough choice, but I'll give the edge to Obsidian. They know how to make good characters. Bioware still manages exceptional characters, but they excel in world-building.

I'd definitely have preferred a KOTOR3 over TOR MMO. But I hate MMO's so I wouldn't have had much interest no matter what they did.
