Poll: Would you kill a man?

A man comes into your house. Maybe a man that you pissed of earlier that day. Maybe you insulted them, or did something that they were so filled with rage about, that they decided that they were going to kill you. So, he goes into your house intent on killing you. You call 911, but the police can't do much for you if he is in your home and coming at you with a gun and they are not already there. They only way you can live is to kill him.

Do you do it?

The reason that I ask this question is because a friend and I got into an argument about this topic when I told him about a man that I met who is an ex-marine. He refuses to answer the question because he "knows" that something like this won't happen to him.

Also, the original question was "If you have to kill a man before he kills you, do you do it?" but he asked me to come up with a situation. And, yes, I would do it.

So, I want to know how everyone here feels about the topic. Maybe I'm wrong, and I'm willing to except that. I just want to know what you all think.

I'd like to say "yes" I'd defend myself, but, I don't know if I actually would or if I wouldn't. It's one of those situations where the truth could only be gained from an empirical test of the situation, and I'm really hoping that particular situation doesn't end up getting empirically tested in my life.

I'm not sure, to be honest.
I'd definitely try to protect myself, probably disarm him or knock him out and tie him up.
He might die during those struggles, so, yeah, I'd risk killing him to save my own life.
But I wouldn't be intent on killing him.

hell, even the -freaking law- wouldn't punish you for it.

To make a more difficult scenario, it needs to be far more controversial

Sorry, but this seems a bit ridiculous to me. You do know how guns work, right? You don't have to "come at" someone, you just pull the trigger from across the room. It's not as if it's a knife.
If I came home to someone in my house with a gun, I'd probably try to run. I think the odds of survival are better for that than if I tried to cross the room, then approach and take the weapon from the attacker.

Yes, if he comes in to my house with the intent to take my life then I have every right to kill him in whatever way I see fit.

I don't see the issue here, I think the bigger concern is whether or not you could kill him, seeing as how he's the one with gun on you.

But assuming I had the ability do so, yes, no doubt. If an easy disarmament was a viable option, I'd probably at least consider that, but if he's breaking into my home with a gun? Fuck him.

First of all, you're assuming that I suddenly have the power to kill a grown man? Wow, that's cool!

I'd like to say that I wouldn't kill him, but if he were in my house, trying to kill me, I don't think I could do that. If he decides that he's going to break into my house and kill me, just because I pissed him off a bit, he's not going to get through it. I'd try to knock him out first, but I'd be prepared to kill. I'm very protective of my home and my family. Now I don't feel like a very good person...
