If the other son of a ***** is an enemy that's planning to take away my freedom, friends and family, then yes. Most certainly. And I feel proud that my post blossomed into a full-fledged thread.

Around 40% said they'd die for their country, so far almost 70% say they'd kill for it. This is very sad in my opinion.

I would not kill or die for my country.
Just out of curiousity, is there anything you would for?
I would kill or die for the cause of true Socialism or Democratic Socialism.

edit-

Although, I'd prefer to live for them.
Fair enough. And I gotta say I agree with your edit.

If given proper incentive (such as money/power, as opposed to an archaic sense of "just doing my duty" or "it's a reward unto itself). Hey, everybody's got their price.

No. The concept of invisible lines in the earth delineating country has spawned quite enough people willing to kill for such a demonstrably destructive concept that perpetuates the tribalist mentality of We vs They. But then again, I am a bit biased - my country has a history of assassination, HR abuses, and shadow wars.

I would rather live promoting the concepts of peace and unity.

Serving in the US Military, sometimes that is what we do.

Luckily I'm a security rating and not deployed to a "hot" area right now, so it is very unlikely I'll ever have to.

*raises hand*

Seriously, fuck people.

But if I have to stick my neck out and get shot to hell and have a really good chance of getting shot to hell, then screw it. I would neither kill nor die for a country whom I could get along without or under something else.

If I am not willing to die for my country then I wouldn't kill for it either. For friends and family, probally, but that's because I'd die for them to.

I could not kill someone who did nothing wrong. If we kill innocents to protect innocents than its just hypocricy.

Yep, but then again that goes hand in hand with dying for your country as well, and I said I would be willing to do that.

The contrast between the current results of this poll and its counterpart, 'Would You Die For Your Country?' is unnerving, to me.

I'm reconsidering the whole 'gaming makes you a psychopath' hysteria, at the moment.

It's more than likely I would. I would definitely do it for my family and loved ones' sake.

I'd kill a bastard if he wanted me and my idealogies dead or deformed. For my country, in particular, yes, absolutely. This place has put up with me quite patiently, I think I should return the favor.

Realistically, if shit was goin' down Red Dawn or Freedom Fighters style, then yeah, I'd kill for my country. Otherwise, I honestly don't have the patriotism or the need to shoot things that comes with the army. Also, if my boss was a complete dick, I'd have to fight off the strong urge to shoot him in the foot. It seems like that would be the only downside to the whole "free gun" thing.
