I'm gonna go ahead and say no I wouldn't. I believe dying or killing for a bit of land is a pretty damn backward thing to do, if we want to get anywhere as a race, we need to unite, not destroy each other.
I disagree if you unite there won't be war and Usually during large wars we get war-time inventions. Parts of these inventions and discoveries later become useful in everyday life. War helps us move forward.

No, I would rather die than kill, and anyone who has the opposite mindset I just can't understand.

Probably not. Party because I want to stick it to all these damned recruiters who call me all the time (Sorry boys, but there isn't much use for my graphic design skills in the military. What do you expect me to do? Criticize their taste in camo?) and partly because I cant think of many situations where I would be killing for my country without dying for it as well.

Death tends to ruin a good many of the days afterwards.

There are two countries I would kill for. First, the US as it's the nation I live in, and I'm a part of its military. Second, France because I love France and I would get in through service with the Legion -which would, again, place me in a military position- if it came to that option.

If they dragged me from my home, threw me into a uniform, stuck a gun in my hands, shipped me to the other side of the planet, and said, "Kill those guys over there -- for America!" I suppose I'd shoot, and do my best to take the other side down, but it would have nothing whatsoever to do with America and a very great deal to do with not wanting to die in the next few seconds.

[rant]
It sickens me when people tell me, "We have to kill the terrorists so they don't destroy our way of life." Yeah, it would probably be better if there were no terrorists. We can probably find and kill a few if we're persistent enough. But we can't win with bullets. We can drop any number of bombs around the world, commit any number of dollars or troops. We will still lose the war on terror. We will lose because we are fighting them the wrong way.

I look around me and I see the free, open, American way of life already being destroyed -- from the inside. I see a culture of fear that has crept into American society in a thousand tiny ways. The bad guys can only win if we give in to this fear.

And we're doing it. We're giving in. Every time a harmless old lady is randomly selected for invasive security screening at the airport, the terrorists win. Every time hospital security detains a man with a knife wound instead of helping him, because he "left an unattended vehicle in the entryway," the terrorists win. Every time a Muslim woman is allowed to keep her scarf on in her driver's license photo, because we're more afraid of offending a Muslim who *gasp* might have terrorist ties than we are of having identification that does not serve to identify people, the terrorists win. Every tax dollar we pay to support the useless, laughably named Department of Homeland Security is a victory for the terrorists.

I believe the most powerful, most demoralizing message we could send to terrorists would be to carry on as if nothing they did mattered: "This is how we live. We will not increase our security. We will not bow our heads in fear. We are free and we will stay that way. You will not determine or alter our standards or our future."

But, since we're going to make war on them instead, I say let the jingoists go fight. We've certainly got an abundance of them in this country. [/rant]

My country as it is now? Perhaps. Perhaps not. My country as it could be, as it should be though? Absolutely. So yes, I suppose. Let's say I would kill and die for the hope that my country could be, and perhaps will be, more. Does that make any sense?

I wouldn't kill just for my country, its a landmass with some nice hills that i don't particularly care about.
I would however kill for my people. If there was an undenyable threat to the geneal populationn which could only be solved via murder, then i would.

Yes I would kill for my country but not for just the land that is just stupid, more for the ideas of the country as a whole (freedom, democracy, whatever you think your country is doing right). Its a little more esoteric and way harder to explain but it is far easier for trolls online to tear to shreds.

I'm definitely fine with killing people, cause why not right? :D

I just don't think my 'country' is really enough of a motivation to go out and kill another human being. Seems like a bit of a flimsy reason in my mind. :3

No, I wouldn't. I just can't even begin to fathom how ignorant we must be as a race that we can't talk out differences, and solving conflicts boils down to physical confrontations that lead to the deaths of millions of people. People who have families and friends. It just baffles my mind.

Without question, thought, or hesitation.

That my friends and fellow posters, is the correct answer every man or woman should give.

All depends on the ideals of the other country, want to invade and make my life bad? I will destroy you. Human life isn't all that valuable, so the better ideals > Life.

I'd do my duty and I reckon most people would.

And that's just the NICE part of just returning fire to armed enemy soldiers. The bit that you can be proud of.

I also reckon the vast majority of people will also cave in and help torture POWs under only the mildest of group pressure.

I'd fight to defend it. I'd join a Home Guard sort of thing if WWIII happened, but since mine is a small island nation on the bottom of the world without much strategic value, I doubt we'd be a priority target. Unless someone wanted to use us as a staging ground against Australia.

Anyway, I'd fight to defend my town, my friends, my family and my countrymen, but not by fighting in someone else's country.
