Let's say one day while you?re enjoying some breakfast you answer your door to a stranger. You have never seen this man before in your life and he is just standing there holding a single briefcase. Eventually you two find yourself talking over a bowl of Cheerios.

He then brings up a proposition. He reveals the contents of his suitcase to be some freaky sci-fi helmet-VR projector. He explains that with this helmet you can control your own world and do what ever your mind desires. Though the catch is you have to allow this man to kill all you loved ones in order for the machine to work. (I know that just sounds insane but just follow it.)

He gives you an hour test run in your "perfect world". He then disconnects you and asks if you want to live in your perfect world forever and let your loved ones die or just kick him out and continue eating your Cheerios.

You could pick a more appetizing cereal than Cheerios, but still, I pick Cereal.

This seems like the obvious choice to kick the guy out. Maybe a more challenging moral dilemma would be to kill people who you don't necessarily know. Then the option of living in a perfect world would not be as much of a sacrifice?

Not really for three reasons.

1. It's "artificial" and only affects your mind, not the entire world.

2. There is no perfect world without loved ones there.

3. Perfect is boring as hell. There's no excitement or danger involved so can't be all that fun.

Hell no for two reasons:

1.They're my loved ones, so I can't live without them.

2."The best perfection is imperfection."

Short answer: No.

Long answer: I fucking love Cheerios so take a guess.
Or, a shortened version of the long answer instead, fuck no.

I'd probably do it, and end up regretting it, and shooting myself in the face a few years later, after all the wild sex and drug abuse.

Theres no perfect world without the loved ones, so its a paradox there :p

If it was a real perfect world that everyone would benefit from, sure. But that's not the case, is it?

Yeah sure. Why the hell not. I mean why live in this shithole world, plus any true loved ones would be represented in the virtual world anyway.
...
Cmon. Look at my name and avatar! You really expected anything different?
I *knew* he looked familiar! Seriously, he was the best character in that musical.

OT: What about a third choice? Bash the guy over the head with his VR device, steal it, hide the body, then create a company called Jedi Mind to market the device, only to receive 2 cease and desist letters from George Lucas.

It's not a perfect world if it's fake. Plus, I'll die in real life from malnutrition.

Wait, so in this do I have to kill my loved ones in the 'vritual perfect world' and the 'real world' or just the 'real world'

If it's the second one then hellz yeah I would go into the virtual world, if it's the first one than I would probably have to finish my cereal

Edit: I voted as I understood the question so perfect world

My loved ones would have to be there for it to be a perfect world, and given that this device would only provide the world in my mind, no, especially since this guy made this device, so obviously it's possible, so someone else probably will as well. If the offer were for the actual world to become perfect, here in meatspace, then I would consider it, depending partially on whether "perfect" allows me to resurrect people.

EDIT: Re-read the topic: a VR helmet? Seriously? If I want to live in a virtual world, I'll break out the bong and play video games.
