I'm 23. I have a freakishly diverse resume of different kind of haircuts, including rastas and every color you can think of, but I've mainly sported bald to very short hair for the last few years. The first times I shaved my head were partly for the same shock factor and other reasons later described, and later on to disturb my long-term then-girlfriend. Then military made it kind of mandatory, which I didn't have the slightest thing to say against. The last few months I grew hair so it was pretty much normal by any scale, but now I'm begun (again) shaving it once a week.
Bald (or nearly bald since I can't bother to shave it more often than once a week and my hair growth is rather intense) is great for many reasons.
- It's practical. No need to do anything to it, any day.
- Long hair can be really annoying. I used to work out quite heavily during my late teens and evidently I couldn't stand the hair getting sweaty nor getting at all in front of my vision.
- You save a hell of a lot when you never need to go to barber shops
- It's humble. Monks shave their heads. You are not hiding anything.
- It's not usual. Most guys have that 1-2 inch natural hair that they don't bother to do anything with. That tells something about a person.
- Shaving a head has a kind of cleansing effect mentally. If you've done it willingly, you know what I mean. It feels like getting free.
- Older men look younger with shaved heads
- Shaved head makes you look more masculine and highlights you're certain features.
- It can make you look more intimidating in a way, which is a masculine feature
- Several aforementioned things add to -> women like it.
It does require a symmetric, well-proportioned head with good skin to pull it off well though. Luckily I have exactly that
