Fun fact: most cinemas get no money from selling tickets, only from the food and drink they sell - that's why it's so overpriced - that's why the tickets weren't as expensive, and also probably why their food court was so extensive.
Does this mean they have no control over the the ticket prices or..?
I think the idea is that, especially on opening weekend, something like 70% of ticket sales go to the movie producer and only 30% to the theater. So in order to make an extra dollar per sale, they'd have to raise the ticket price by about %3.50, which would tick off moviegoers and probably cost them more in decreased attendance than they'd make in increased revenue.
Aaah I see. It'd be silly for the cinemas to get no profit and as I now know it's heavily stacked towards the movie producers. The decreased attendance thing could be something worth researching, I'd be curious to see what the effect would be.

No, I need to be interested in the films first before even considering on going, and since they hardly make movies I'm interested in anymore, that will probably be never.

I prefer Ihateregistering1's idea more honestly.

I don't have anything wrong with my theater experience. I go to a nice one, the people treat me alright, there's a brilliant Chinese restaurant and shopping complex within walking distance, and it doesn't cost extra bus fare to get there. I dunno, maybe things are just good in Pittsburgh. Can't imagine how theaters annoy other people. I went to see Day of the Doctor there, great crowd. Nobody annoying there AT ALL in all of a full house.

A leather, or imitation leather, chair... in a theater...?

I'm not a fan of the feel of leather to begin with but I just... DO NOT WANT. But more to the point I rairly go to the movies any more. More fun to go to a party at a friend's house, pop on a bad movie on Netflix, get drunk, and laugh and laugh and laugh...

$5 says those chairs never ever get washed. EVER.
That's the beauty of a leather chair!

"Boss! There seems to be a combination of spit, popcorn bits, and what I pray to God to be chocolate on the seat"

"Hose it off and we're good to go!" :D

If they're going to spend money on upgrading the cinema, I'd rather they spend it on getting the sound and picture quality as good as possible first.

Wouldn't do anything to get me to see more movies. Movies come home so quickly now, there really isn't any point in going out to see them. For the same price as paying for a ticket to see the movie one time, in a theater with 50-ish other people, I can wait three months and buy the movie on Amazon to own forever. I'll go out to see a movie I'm really hyped for (the last time I did this was for Jurassic Park in 3D this Spring, before that was Enchanted in 2007), but otherwise, I'll happily wait and watch it at home.

Reminds me of the Alamo Drafthouse down in Texas. Not as nice, but I really enjoy an improved theater experience. Also, NO CHILDREN ALLOWED! WOOOOO! Leave your kids at home!

Why would I pay to sleep in a chair? The only thing to get me to go to the movie theater more often is better movies.

Still doesn't offer me a better experience than I get at home, the only thing cinemas have over my home theatre is the obviously much larger screen and the films are out a few weeks earlier. Other than that I can smoke if I want, only invite people that don't annoy me when watching a film, I can sit in my pants if I want, I can pause it and use my phone if I want, if its film worth watching in 3D I can turn the fugging brightness up if I want, I can eat what I want even including a full course Indian take away.

All that freedom and all I need to do is trade a 50ft screen for a 5ft screen and wait a few weeks.

Going even further, I believe that going by weight, cinema popcorn is the most profitable substance on the planet. (This came from a screenwriting seminar I attended once so I don't have the source!)

One of the few that chose other. I stopped going years ago. $10 a ticket is not worth it, nor is the overpriced food and drink. Being that you payed $17 bucks for a pizza for 2, in addition to I'm guessing the usual $10 a ticket, I'd likely still not go if it was just that pizza.
However, if it's 10 a pop to sit in comfort, and they keep those damn chairs clean, and I could get a burger for a fiver, I'd reconsider.
