I was just curious, I spoke with a lot of my friends and they seem to hate the idea, but of course... their cheap-idiots :)

and I just wanted to know would you guys pay to change your PSN name and why... and if you don't explain that too. I personally- would. And some people say "dude! just make another account" Not as simple, I have 4 movies, 20 games, and 40 demos (demos don't count but I was just bragging...) so as you can see, I'd loose out around £200+ if I just changed my account :/ And not to mention, time spent on the account, 518 trophies and DLC bought.

P.S If you choose Option 3: then explain what you think would be a fair price : ) thanks

EDIT:

I would think that giving people the option is something that Sony should do though. $7-$10 sounds fair to me.
and that's my problem, I don't hate my name at all, I just think it's abit childish at this point, made that name almost 3 years ago, and I'd rather have something with my last name or nickname you know? :/

imagine this situation, (I use my PSN name nearly for everything, even youtube) a hot girl walked up to you and said "hey, your real cute" and you start talking and you suddenly get on the subject of youtube, and she goes "whats your youtube account?" and I wouldn't know how to reply :/ LOL regardless of that really unlikely scenario, but I could of put any other situation and different website etc. and I would of gotten the same result : ) any of this making sense : P ? ? ?

Nope, I'm happy with my name.

Where could one go to change this name, though? Just curious.

The price is more of a deterrent than an actual invoice for services rendered. Just sayin'.

I can see the case for a non-free name change facility, but I think it's bullshit. Steam allows you to change your username anytime you feel like it, at no cost. However, there is an overall account name that can't be changed, but isn't usually visible - this is what makes it easy to find frequent name-changers.

But this just seems like another case of the console companies taking advantage of their online services to wring a extra cash out of their user base.

Nope. I picked one I wouldn't regret later. And did the same for my Japanese account. I think if mine was just something random, or something I had as a joke, I'd eventually want to change it, after I got sick of it. But I doubt I'd ever pay any amount over $1 to change it.

Given that scenario, I would just tell her. If she judges you because of your online nickname, and she decided to navigate herself away from you, she's not worth it in my opinion.

Why the fuck should I have to pay money to edit a few lines of data. It's fucking sad that people think this is reasonable. Are you fucking serious. I bet you think that 5p is a fair price for texting aswell?

It's fucking bullshit you should not have to pay to change your fucking name.

I don't mean to offend but fucking seriously? You think it's ok to have to pay? Jesus christ.
okay calm down. First and foremost, I didn't say anywhere that I would pay if it was £20 or something! I'm merely saying that £5 would be a fair prince, secondly... It's not just data, it's files, billing info, everything... everything right down to your console you registered, changing those info shouldn't be cheap (at least I don't think so) thirdly, you must probably are a born/grown PC gamer where you constantly change your name, while that's fine... you are never given to change the name of your actual account of it's self. And if we could change it with any price, people would go mad and it would just freeze their servers.

No. Most names don't matter, and I'm fairly happy with the one I have. I don't feel like throwing money away.

Nope, why would you give yourself a name that you didn't like in the first place?

you realise that making a new account doesn't lock out downloaded content on the ps3, you can still download and install with your original crappily named account and interact with people online under a different one, it's only saves that don't transfer

I can see your reasoning for it. It should definately have a small charge to change, as it is hardley a few lines of code. It would require quite a bit of modification if the system is not already set up to handle this (and it clearly isn't) so that it would update all of your friend's friends lists to your new name as well. There should also be a a time restriction on it, like every 6 months, to keep people from name hopping to avoid being blacklisted.

Have you contacted Sony and asked about it?

Yes, of course, but I did mention the other factor, my trophies, saved games, online game ranks etc. Plus adding 80 friends again isn't easy and some are REALLY lazy even to glace at their messages, just saying.
