As long as we're all talking about building a game on girl parts I was wondering, is there any interest in playing a game where you play as sheik almost exclusively? like link is barely in it and you don't use Zelda much. Sheik was always my personal favorite zelda character. maybe because I run a monk every other D&D campaign but I enjoy the fist fighting characters moreso than swords and bows.

Now i'm as fed up as the next guy with all the BS accusations leveled at gaming right now but there IS a need for more female driven games and even if there isn't nothing bad could come from having more of them anyway. and as long as everyone is idiotically shouting about "damsels in distress" using sheik would solve both problems. you could litterally have the princess save herself. for example you could either use magic to separate the two entirely or you could use the idea of split personalities, through magic or some kind of traumatic injury her mind splits into the two personas of sheik and zelda but isn't aware of it and sets about rescuing Zelda as sheik totally oblivious. or you go cerebral and have zelda either injured or poisoned and sheik has to work through her memories to try and bring her back to consciousness.

Is this a dumb idea and do you think anyone would play something like that?

I would love to see a game where Zelda is born with the triforce of Courage and it's Prince Link who needs to be saved by her.

Depends. Link has always been a bit of a dunce, don't even try denying it. He's certainly smart, but he has no idea what the hell is going on in the world and just does what he's told or where he needs to go. Zelda on the other hand, is in the position and the brainpower to know how to go about doing everything and has the Triforce of Wisdom to back her up when she doesn't.

Personally I'd prefer a Midna-led side-game as opposed to Sheik, if simply because I consider her a stronger character and much more interesting. Not to add in that Sheik only exists in one of the timelines/versions of the story, whereas Midna has been established as the ruler of her own parallel dimension that has always been there.

What I would despise would be a reversal of the genders, not because I have a thing against girls, but because it's lazy and immensely disrespectful to the series as a whole in nearly every way. Zelda, Midna, Impa, Fi, Navi, these are just a handful of the strong female characters that already exist within the universe and have existed for nearly three decades. To go and pull a 63 on them for no other reason may as well be a slap in the face of how fucking great these characters are. You may control Link, but he never has any idea what's going on and does as he's told, pretty much just like the player, to say that controlling Zelda the Hero of Time would be progressive tells me you have never paid attention to the games, their characters, or the stories told that aren't on the cover.

There's a reason it's called "Legend of Zelda" and not "Legend of the Hero/Time/Link", it's because Zelda is considered the most important character in the series. Link's just the guy that gets hired to gather the crap she needs to defeat Ganon/Ghirahim/etc. The only exception to this would be Majora's Mask, and there's a hundred theories surrounding it, from Link dying and going through what he lost by being locked up for seven years, to him be transported to the distant past in the Twili realm, to Termina simply being a fever dream after he falls from his horse.

I always thought it would be cool to have a Zelda led game where you play as both Zelda and Shiek. Zelda games always have a gimmick, and switching between two play styles to deal with different situations is neat and not unheard of in the series. I mean, I love Link, but Zelda and Ganon have always been more appealing characters to me. I would love to play a canon Zelda game as the Demon King too!

Yes. Enough said. No, that's not enough? Fine.

There's always (well, not always...) been a demand for a Legend of Zelda game where you play as Zelda. You know, the title character. And I am certain fans would gobble up a game where you play as Shiek too because it's Shiek. If such a game came out, and it was good, I would actually buy a Wii U to play it. That would be a console mover in my book, and I know it would be for a lot of other people too. If Nintendo would just be willing to take the risks their fans ask for, instead of ones that just seem to leave people going, "Okay, but...huh?"
Remember the excitement that was buzzing around when the new Zelda game showed up and Link looked a bit more girly than usual? People were really hoping that we would finally get a girl-hero Zelda game, but Nintendo was quick to put the breaks on that.

...So you want to see a Legend of Zelda game where instead of going sword and board you're playing a ninja? I believe the phrase "shut up and take my money" applies to this scenario rather nicely.

But why the split personality? It's not needed any more than Batman needs to be a different personality than Bruce Wayne.

That sounds rad as fuck. Make it a bit more stealthy, maybe some Jade Empire-ish combat in there, going all ninja. Oh I'm on board for that alright.

yes but in all honesty I would rather play as a gerudo pirate girl on a game that takes place shortly after the events of Wind Waker. She gets her own ship and sails the sea looking for treasure while adding upgrades to her ship and fighting against other pirates and seeking the ultimate treasures! It would be an puzzle, platforming, action adventure game, think Zack and Wiki with a mix of Mischief Makers 64 and Assassins Creed Black Flag thrown in for good fun

if a Sheik game were to be made though I wouldn't want it to play like the regular Zelda games. Given her ninja like abilities a more stealth action based game would probably suit her best, something similar to Shadow of Mordor maybe.
An interesting thought would be to continue where Skyward Sword left off. Have Zelda take the role of Sheik as suggested by old lady Impa and she travels the new land of Hyrule and helps citizens of Skyloft settle down in the new land by clearing areas, fortresses, dungeons, etc. Eventually this uncovers the time traveling mechanic where you play as young Impa and you use both characters to solve puzzles and help expand the Hyrule kingdom. Old Impa gives you main story missions and eventually you travel to meet the great dragons and continue to expand the land. For example in the past as Impa you help the Sheikans settle into a mountain side, then using Sheik in the present time you go to said mountainside and discover that it's now infested with Stalfos and set out on a mission to clear out what eventually turns out to be the Shadow Temple, Dampe eventually appears and offers to help pay respects to those that lost their lives there.
and so little by little you uncover the history of the Sheikan's as young Impa who plays a more action like game and as Sheik with a stealthier approach you help the citizens of Skyloft settle in the new land of Hyrule while as Zelda you play this sort of town building game where you can select to construct buildings and through political favors and other means you can get the aid from Gorons, Zoras, Deku, etc. eventually building Kakariko village, the Castle Market, Zora's Domain, Goron village, Hidden Village, etc.

I'd like a game where it's actually the Legend of Zelda Her alter ego is fine I guess, but I'd like to see her doing stuff as herself.

While I don't personally find that story idea all that interesting, I could see it being done well in a game. You could then have your Damsel in Distress, and your Action Girl in the same package. Personally, I'd just like to see Zelda go fight a challenge that only she can deal with. I mean she is a wielder of the Triforce of Wisdom (it is Wisdom right?), she's hardly a common girl. I can think of plenty of stories where she could draw on that power to help her.

See, I wouldn't like to see this, just because it's simply a Gender Swap scenario, and I find those kind of dull. Let Link be doing something off camera, going and fighting some threat like the good little guard dog he is, but give Zelda her own challenge, a different threat she has to tackle, in tandem with Link's. Equally important, and equally urgent. Hell, as a bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom, it would actually justify the insane puzzles that they put in Zelda games for Link to overcome. Who better to solve puzzles and riddles than the bearer of Wisdom? Of course, having her do some ass kicking too would be ideal.

Yeah, give her her own story, as Zelda, in the open, showing why she is ruler of the kingdom, let her do the whole Noblesse Oblige thing, and go defend her people directly. I think that would make for a really kick ass game.

Absolutely, though I'd prefer pirate Zelda over sheik. Or a new incarnation of Zelda. I don't think sheik has a place outside of OoT. It would be cool to see Nintendo take some big risks again, I love their classic franchises, but they get wearisome after awhile. Of course, they tried to take a big risk with other M, and we all saw how that turned out...

I would love this. I'd be more on board with this than playing as Link again (though admittedly, I'll play the franchise either way).

I don't care either way. It's legend of Zelda, for gods sake. It never had good characters to begin with. If it was a company that had good writing pedigree, then I'd be more interested.

I would love to play a game as Sheik, but I would condition my 'yes' vote. I wouldn't want it to just be a Zelda game with a model and skin change on link. I would want the gameplay to be switched up. More stealthy, less sword and board. Another poster above mentioned the idea of changing from Zelda to Sheik and vice versa to deal with different situations- that's a great idea! I like it.

I would like equal time between playing as Zelda and Sheik. Sheik would have a stealthy, Prince of Persia feel, while I could totally see Zelda using sword, but differently than link. Perhaps like either classical fencing, or like the Chinese straight-sword (jian).

One possible Triforce of Wisdom power could perhaps be the ability to see all possibilities, allowing her to view events from afar, and to a certain extent, predict and dodge enemy attacks. I could see it working as power where time seems to slow down (because her perception allows her to act more decisively relative to her enemies.) All this in addition to certain "wisdom" based magic effects.

Assuming I had the money for what console it runs on and the game isn't terrible, yeah I'd probably buy this game. I'm not sure I agree with "it can't be a reskinned Zelda game" though. I feel various Zelda games have nuance between them to make them all viable yet distinct, but the end goal shouldn't be save Link or some other person. Perhaps just retaking a fallen Hyrule from Ganon to keep it video gamey and familiar or some alternate universe to "discover" her aspect of the Triforce to be a little more abstract in a puzzley game less focused on direct combat in some stealth game splashed with action, like a Zelda game in a reimagined Dunwall from Dishonored or something.

I actually really hate this trope right now, it seems we can't have a female character in a western game this days without her getting fucking brutalized. Developers should stop shoehorning female characters into the "action survivor" trope, have them as normal characters.
I agree with you on that i was honestly just throwing ideas out i'm sure there's probably plenty of other/better ways to make it i just needed an example. that's sorta my gripe with the new tomb raider game they seem to have mistaken "we put her through a meat grinder" with "she has so much personality."

but that was just the first idea that popped into my head.

Oh boy, now we can really mess with people with the whole sheik/zelda thing when the game is called legend of zelda still.

No way, Sheik is a b-hole. I used to think Sheik was cool, but then I saw "Spice and Wolf," where she
kicked Lawrence's ass and stole all his money.
