Would you play Call of Duty/Battlefield style game where you:

A. Get to gun down and shoot Osama Bin Laden
B. Play a level that takes place either in one of the twin towers or one of the planes that crashed into it on 9/11.

Yeah, it was a tragedy, loss of life and blah blah blah. So? Why is its depiction so taboo amongst games/films/books? Are the Americans so deathly afraid that they are infact vulnerable to this sort of attack that its impossible to expand on the subject?
Maybe because not everybody is a giant dick who wants to kill innocent people

Sure, why the hell not. About as original as everything else in the market today.

Well there'd have to be something else to the game other than the aforementioned controversial events. They would probably have to use fictional locations and organisations as well.

For example, what would the player be doing in the Twin Towers? Just going to walk around as the building collapses then you die? Sure, that worked for CoD4 when you controlled a dying marine as he crawled around a town hit by a nuclear blast. But then you'd need other character to control. Or maybe you could be one of the firefighters in the Towers? There just isn't much action going on inside the Towers, but it's a great spectacle. Maybe you could be one of those people who jumped to their deaths. Slightly out of the ordinary for a game series where you spend 90% of your time shooting stuff.

And as for shooting Bin Laden, that's a lot easier to justify for a game where you usually shoot terrorists. But I doubt they would be able to even use his actual appearance and name, which defeats the point really.

That was...A little uncalled for. He was not trying to be a troll, he was just stating his opinion.

No, I think I've had quite enough of the US military jerking off in my face while I try to enjoy a video game.

Quite frankly, it's getting rather tiresome.

It strikes me all as rather tasteless if those levels are in the game just for the sake of controversy. I couldn't see any way to work in those situations without it just coming off as cheap pathos or outright exploitative.

Pretty much this.

Slap it in something like Borderlands and you'd have a deal but CoD/Battlefield .... nay ta.

Probably not for a few reasons. The subject matter is still a sore spot for me. When I was serving I the US army I was sent overseas a few times just because of 9/11 and well, war is hell. So I dislike any reminders of the experiences I had to endure

Beyond that Im getting a little tired of the modern shooters.

Yeah I can't think of a way for those to be either fun or interesting without thinking of those two things you mentioned. If a game did put those levels in a game I probably couldn't take the game seriously after that, and possibly stop playing afterwards depending on what they did with it.

No, but mainly because it is a COD/Battlefield style game rather than because of any "controversial" content.

If they made a Magicka DLC where you were in the Twin Towers when they were attacked, or if you had to hijack a plane and Magick it into the Twin Towers, or had to infiltrate a compound in Pakistan and kill OBL, then I would play that.

No.
First, and most importantly, i don't even like Call of Duty or Battlefield.

Second, because we know what happened and it doesn't seem like it'd make for very interesting game scenarios.
