Yep. No consequences that effect me except I might finally get a girl to be interested in me? Yea, I would say I'm down for that.

The possibility that it erases someone I am close to (family and immediate friends) is so miniscule due to the population that its not really a problem. I would rather have a girlfriend at the moment than a funny comedian or actor honestly.

What I'm saying is that I really need to find out how to get a girlfriend.

[sub]everyone is getting so worked up over this question. can we tone it down please? lol[/sub]

Let's see. A 30% chance to not exist anymore VS less guys in my country...I don't actually see any upsides to this deal. At all.
Maybe population control, although that seems kind of extreme and the whole possibility of ceasing to exist thing really doesn't help.

I don't need to eliminate most of the competition to get laid.

In fact, what kind of person would actually press the button?

I was about to be disappointed by the amount of people who said yes. Then I remembered what site I was on. :p

OT: Hell no, with all the male friends and brothers I have, chances are I just removed at least one person I feel some form of love towards. Sure there is a chance the 30% of men vanishing from England could turn out to the the most horrible 30% of men over here. But there is also a chance some of the most upstanding members of my gender could be gone too.
I would destroy the device because there is no good reason I can see for it to exist. If possible I'd also find where it was created and destroy all documentation on it's creation to at least slow down the chance of it being rebuilt.

But what if the button also removes the people you do like within your own gender. Sure you wouldn't remember that they ever existed (I'm assuming the button acts a bit like the crack in time from Doctor Who) but somewhere deep down, it'd still hurt.

Hey, there would be less douchebags in the world, too. Well, depending on how those 30% are chosen, that is. If I get to make choices myself, I would so press that button.
I get the point you are trying to make, there are definitely people who take more from the world than they put in, making it so they never exist could almost be seen as the morally right choice in that regard, however I think the reason the OP came up with to erase people is incredibly shallow, as if getting laid is the only reason to eliminate 30% of our "competition"

To be perfectly honest, I probably would have pressed the button before you had a chance to tell me what it does. Especially if it really big and shiny.
No one give Mr Pantomime a job in the military, lol.

"What's this do? *press*

*town five miles away blows up*

"Oohh..."
Christ, they have buttons that do that?!

*Enlists*
Oh god, no. What have I done?!

I'd press the button, but more to just get rid off a few millions, than to get a girl. I don't need a girl and don't really want one either.
Pretty sure 30% of the male population ceasing to have ever existed wouldn't increase your odds of "getting a girl." Unless being gay is a choice or something, lul. If you did wanna land a date, referring to others as things to "get" and "want" probably wouldn't be a great idea, either. People have this crazy idea that they would actually like to meet a friend and see if their relationship grows from that and stuff.
I think you misunderstood. My reason for pressing the button would have nothing to do with getting a girl or a date. I just think it would be a good thing to get rid off 30%.

I couldn't. Eliminating around 15% of this country's population for my little friend is seriously messed up.

I'd never think of it if the only intention was to have a slightly higher chance with girls - that seems stupidly desperate.

However, this sounds like a somewhat rash yet tempting way to partially solve the earths problem with over-population (its not like Im murdering them all - I'm rewriting history so they never existed in the first place), not to mention a lot of other things if I can specify which people (criminals, etc). So for that reason, Id consider it. But for the reason the OP is implying? Definitely not.

If it killed the all the ugly, fat, females? Then hell fuckin' yes. Otherwise... no.
so basically if they don't give you a hard-on then they should die?
no offence but that's equally fucked up.
You quoted the wrong person there. Unless I have some sort of subconscious, male alter-ego that posted that.

I can't deny that this would be an effective strategy. If there's one thing that gets the ladies hot, it's people who committed genocide for incredibly selfish reasons!

As Terry Pratchett said "If there was a button in a remote cave that said 'DO NOT PRESS! END OF WORLD BUTTON!!' it wouldn't have time for the paint to dry!"

I'd press it. IF only to see what happened.
