After watching Prometheus, I gave Alien and Aliens another watch. Overall, I preferred the original films but their difference in tone and scope made me think of something. Which of these films would be more "survivable?"

So in Alien the situation is:
Trapped aboard a spaceship
Few people(no more than six or seven)
Basically unarmed
Only one xenomorph(the titular alien)

As compared to Aliens:
Stuck on a planet side facility
Comparatively more people(about sixteen initially I think)
Heavily armed
*Lots* of xenomorphs(close to 150)

To keep things consistent, I'm going to say you would be a civilian in both cases; while you could probably grab a gun in the Aliens scenario, you wouldn't have any training.
So which scenario do you feel you could more likely survive? Please feel free to share any thoughts you have below.

I would have to say Aliens. I think the survival-chance improves with more people around you, never mind heavily armed and trained Colonial Marines. And even if you don't survive, I'd rather die among others than alone or with very few on a space ship.

Obviously the movie Alien is the clear answer.

There is only "ONE" Xenomorph in the first movie, as opposed to 100's of xenomorphs and one queen in the second.

I would rather be in the first 'Alien' movie. Although true, it is a small crew, had they made better choices, I think more would have survived.

I like to consider myself a Ripley.

I like the odds in Alien. A much more survival-friendly alien to person ratio. If I backstabbed everyone else and shot off in the escape pod as soon as it excused itself from the dinner table I'd be laughing.

As for Aliens I think I'd probably last about as long as Burke, if not less. I know where I stand with one of the ugly buggers. When you can't count the number of them on one hand I think it's safe to say you're dead.

Aliens. Ripley had what, a five minute training session with Hicks and she has already mastered the PR.

I'd pick Aliens. But instead of holing up in the facility where the xenomorphs can attack from all angles I'd go outside and camp on a hill with the guns and turrets so they can't get anywhere near us without being shot at.

The tactical understanding of those marines is very suspect, especially the fact that they are heavily relying on a civilian for advice instead of having a clue themselves. And when she does suggest something sensible, like carefully going over the blueprints so they don't leave any holes in their defences, they half ass the job and the xenomorphs sneak in via a crawlspace large enough to drive a bus through.

The first movie leaves less room for smarter decision making. You could chuck Ash out of the airlock at the start, but that's cheating.
