I'd give up music in a heartbeat.

My only concern would be not being able to hear the soundtracks in movie and games. I rarely listen to music on its own.

It's tempting to say taste because it would probably make eating healthy really easy, but not worth it.

Taste... I was going to say "life", but that would assume the worse of not having one over the other...

Other than that, I have more memorable music-based moments than taste-based moments right now...

Taste without a doubt. Music is the only reason I enjoy driving and manage to survive through work. Not to mention the benefits of not having to worry about taste. I could actually start eating healthy since the food would literally taste the same as junk food. Yeah, I'll lose the ability to every taste sushi and Jersey Mike's subs, but I'll survive.

Neither. I give up smell. Mine doesn't work right anyway. :p

(And before anyone says anything, smell is not a true function of taste. One does not automatically destroy the other.)

I'd easily loose taste over music.

I enjoy all the various melodies blasting out my earbuds and I'm the type of person whose mostly thirsty all the time rather than hungry (a bonus is that plain old water always satisfies my need for re-hydration). I'm also most tempted to eat something that looks and smells good rather than simply going on taste.

Taste. I can't bloody taste anything anyway, and I need music to get through the hours of public transport I have to take on a daily basis.

Plus this way I could probably get around to eating all the shitty-but-cheap fast food around my house instead of going for the more expensive options that don't taste like complete arse.

As other people have pointed out, losing taste can actually have benefits, since not caring about how food tastes would mean I'd have even more reason to stop eating tasty garbage that is slowly poisoning me and switch over to real food. I don't even care that much about taste either, since I basically only ever actually enjoy food once, and then it's just "I remember liking this better the first time..."

I'm not a huge fan of music to be honest, I've never even just sat down and done nothing but listen to music. But I'm just imagining how awkward it would be to suddenly have every game, movie, etc. have the soundtrack completely stripped out. Kinda ruins it in my head when I think about it.

Gonna go with ditching taste on this one.

I'm kind of shocked by the number of people here who can't taste much anyways. What seems to have happened to you guys?

Fucked if I know. Either something is up with my nose or my tongue, but it's never been a major-enough thing for me to get it checked out by doctors.

...Nobody realized until I was like 17 though, I just thought everyone sucked at cooking. >.>

Hard to say. Giving up taste means I can finally start eating healthy. Giving up music means no more bad music polluting my ears whenever I walk into a CVS. I suppose the benefits of giving up taste outweigh the benefits of giving up music.

I would pay money to lose my sense of taste. Without the temptation to eat baked goods or the overwhelming desire to vomit on biting into a salad I would be losing weight like no ones business.

Haha, I think you're the first person to bring up a positive to losing music!

Taste. I love music, I love eating. Imagine all the things I could eat if taste didn't matter!? (To clarify, I enjoy the act of eating as much as the taste of the food)
pretty much this, hell I'd consider doing this if it was possible right now without burning my tongue off or some shit, just so I could eat super healthy all the time since all shit would taste the same.

(I *love* eating, eating steak is like a mini-orgasm each time a piece goes into my mouth, but the benefits of eating healthier would far outweigh that)

giving up music would actually suck, not sure how that would work but it'd suck.

No brainer for me. I'd give up on taste.

Music is way to important for me to give up on. While I don't create my own, it is one of the few ways that allows for expression, which I otherwise can not.

You'd better believe it. I stopped showing up for a workout class once solely because I couldn't stand all the pop music.

Taste. If I lose music I'll be unable to fully enjoy movies and albums, so that'd be two losses. Taste would just be one.

Anyone who would give up taste is not a cook. If you cook, you need to be able to taste. To learn from your mistakes. Also, after the food is done, it would seem like a waste if it was bland. Why bother with seasoning and such for cardboard?

I like music, but I could never give up tasting my food.

I can relate. I once told the clerk in a shoe store that I'd pay her 100 crowns (roughly $10) if she turned off the pop they were playing and put on some Beatles instead. She told me she couldn't, though.

That's the thing about music. If you say you hate a TV show, or a movie, or a book, people tell you to just stop reading/watching. But when it comes to music, they don't, because they understand that in our society you have to listen to music now and then whether you like it or not.
