The main upside is that the PS3 controller comes rechargable out of the box, rather than having to buy charging packs for it, or shelling out for loads and loads of batteries.
They already jammed accelerometers into the controller just before release, after hearing nintendo was going to do its thing. So expect a more traditional shaped controller with an attempt to replicate wii functionality. To be fair, microsoft will do the same thing for the xbox720.Megacherv said:yes, because that was a clever comment. Why would they want to though, less buttons and awkward shape, it's not practical for a hardcore gaming console.thiosk said:Sony will replace their controller with a wiimote in the ps4
You know so much about the future so tell me how Brutal Legend is going to be.thiosk said:They already jammed accelerometers into the controller just before release, after hearing nintendo was going to do its thing. And then cooking with mama is going to be a multi platform release
Well said, CT.cuddly_tomato said:Yes. Xbox360 controller is much better in my opinion. The only thing it doesn't really have over the PS3 is the D pad, everything else is better. Especially the feel and sensitivity of the analogue sticks.
this.GloatingSwine said:Yes (assuming you could get one with the accelerometers in), the Xbox controller is more comfortable, has a much nicer weight, has far better triggers and face buttons, and simply popping out a couple of rechargeable AAs and slapping some new ones in is much more convenient than tying the controller down to recharge it.
I love the N66 controller. It's so simple and suits all the different game genres. As much as I love it, it wouldn't translate well to the current gen.Mazty said:attrocious N64 pad
I usually rest my pointer on the trigger, so that's not a problem for me. If the PS3 controller is as small as these people say it is, then I wouldn't be able to use it at all, because I have very large hands. I'm also not one to pay $400 for a game console without Wi-Fi, and I'm certainly not paying $600 for the one that does. So I'm definitely going with the Xbox 360 controller. The Black Adder said:I have to disagree. I love the Playstation controller, hell I have since I have my original PS. I've even bought a USB Playstaion-clone contollers so I could play emulated games on my PC. But the Xbox360 controllers is really annoying. The D-pad sucks and is put in the wrong place, it is very uncomfortable to rest your fingers on both the bumpers and the triggers. Maybe the problem is that you have only used an Xbox controller and a PS controllers? I've never gotten a cramp for a PS controllers, but I have many times from my GBA and NES. I don't have giant hands, so I don't need a oversided controller that looks like Microsfot couldn't decied if they wanted to rip off Sony's controller or Nintendo 64's controller, and couldn't agree so they came to compromise. Plus the PS controller is good for me, because I smoke, and I can't hold that clumsy Xbox controller and smoke a cigarrete at the same time. The only thing that an Xbox360 controller looks good for is a boomerang.Eclectic Dreck said:Having only recently purchased a PS3, I find myself wildly annoyed at the controller. To be fair, I've never really liked the Play Station style of controller - the analog sticks are too spongy and close together, the buttons (especially the shoulder buttons) inconviently located and the whole assembly is just a bit too small. Having thus far only played Killzone 2, I've found that my my only sustainable gripes about the game lie in the fact that I simply do not care for the controller.
That said, according to the internet it is entirely possible to force the PS3 to accept a wired Xbox 360 controller. While it may be heresy to suggest, it seems as though this would provide the best solution to my problem as I adore the Xbox controller. Having never tested the concept myself, I have no idea just how well it would work, and knowing that the at least some PS3 games make use of the motion sensing capabilities of the PS3 controller makes me wonder if it's really even possible to make it happen.
But assuming that somehow, it magically worked correctly, the question to the PS3 owners is simply this: would you use a 360 controller on the PS3 given the chance?
I have to heartily disagree with that statement you've made. The Orange Box's gun controls feel very natural. If you want to fire the gun, you pull a trigger like the real thing.Mazty said:The 360 pad sucks in my opinion. The whole pad is built for fat hands, the num pad is a pain to use, and the pad design, with the buttons sticking out makes playing any beat 'em up a nightmare as your fingers can't move easily from one to another. Basically the PS3 pad is easier to use for any sort of combo or fast reactions.
Plus the triggers on the 360 can feel out of place with certain games like Mirrors Edge or any game which contain/have you using guns.
The funny thing is you did pay around $400 for a console without wifi, unless you bought an arcade unit, which is ignorant to the extreme in spite of the cheaper purchace price. BTW, my $400 PS3 came with wi-fi, and I dont even use it since I keep my router so close and wired connections run faster on both my xbox and my ps3.Uberjoe19 said:I usually rest my pointer on the trigger, so that's not a problem for me. Simple? I always thought it looked like something developed for players with three arms. I never could quite get the hang of the thing, gamecube was better, but not that great either IMOTheGreenManalishi said:I love the N66 controller. I got a refurbished Pro unit with a 120GB HDD and two games for $300. And the games are actually two of the best made for the Xbox 360, BioShock and The Orange Box. But the wireless adaptor was worth the extra money, in my opinion.PTSpyder said:The funny thing is you did pay around $400 for a console without wifi, unless you bought an arcade unit, which is ignorant to the extreme in spite of the cheaper purchace price. so spending money for another controller > buying batteries...... NO!PTSpyder said:NO!
In spite of this ridiculous little trend that people have started, the xbox controller is not nearly as good as the sixaxis. The only explaination I can think of for this would be single system gamers who have only owned an xbox and/or a 360 finally buying a PS3, then bitching about the controller. I own both systems, the PS3 controller is better in most situations. Some of my friends/my GF prefer the xbox controller when playing FPS's, which I cant stand.
And since someone brought it up, the AA batteries kinda suck in my opinion. What modern generation piece of electronics still runs on duracell? Nothing. It looks and feels cheap, and if you are all that worried about your controller dying (which never happens to me, even in 14 hour gaming sessions) just get an extra controller, leave it plugged in, and swap out. Its much easier then finding new batteries.
That's the thing, it looks impossible to use, but when you play with one for 10 years, it gets difficult to adjust to anything else.PTSpyder said:Simple? I agree with that, but in the same way the left analogue stick on a PS3 controller hurts my hand. ALso so does mashing the shoulder buttons for shooters.harhol said:huh? I thought the only people who disliked the PS3's controller were those with big 'n' manly North American shovel hands. I have tiny hands and the Sixaxis feels perfect... I've never had any problems with pains or cramps and I play shooters regularly.Simriel said:I have said Sony should redesign their controller for years. Anyone with small hands who likes to play shooters will feel PAIN!
the positioning of the d-pad on the X360 controller is just wrong, whichever way you want to look at it.
