Having only recently purchased a PS3, I find myself wildly annoyed at the controller. To be fair, I've never really liked the Play Station style of controller - the analog sticks are too spongy and close together, the buttons (especially the shoulder buttons) inconviently located and the whole assembly is just a bit too small. Having thus far only played Killzone 2, I've found that my my only sustainable gripes about the game lie in the fact that I simply do not care for the controller.

That said, according to the internet it is entirely possible to force the PS3 to accept a wired Xbox 360 controller. While it may be heresy to suggest, it seems as though this would provide the best solution to my problem as I adore the Xbox controller. Having never tested the concept myself, I have no idea just how well it would work, and knowing that the at least some PS3 games make use of the motion sensing capabilities of the PS3 controller makes me wonder if it's really even possible to make it happen.

But assuming that somehow, it magically worked correctly, the question to the PS3 owners is simply this: would you use a 360 controller on the PS3 given the chance?

Yes. Xbox360 controller is much better in my opinion. The only thing it doesn't really have over the PS3 is the D pad, everything else is better. Especially the feel and sensitivity of the analogue sticks.

I'll agree with this. The D pad on the PS controller family is much more reasonably placed. However, given the fact that the D pad is primarily used these days as additional face buttons for "sometimes needed" functions it evens out I guess.

No. I don't like the 360's controller. If we could replace it with the GC controller then I would say yes.

There you go. I couldn't have put it better myself. Worst comes to worst you get a fight stick.

No. SixxAxis aside, I prefer the PS3's controller. The design of the Dualshocks has always been better than the Xbox controllers, in my view, even back to the Duke and Controller S on the original Xbox.

As to Cuddly Tomato's experience with better sensitivity, I've never experienced that, even though I play my 360 and PS3 regularly.

Well I have never used a PS3 controller however I love the PSX/2 controller so if its the same design then no, I would not change it.
It's not exactly the same as the PS1/2 controller but it's fairly close. They did make changes that make it more appealing (R2/L2 are now analog buttons for example, and there is motion sensing tech involved)

PS controllers are the only controllers I have used seriously since Genesis. Needless to say, you "go with what you know".

Aren't these things called "triggers"?

Personally I wouldn't cause I love the playstation controllers the only thing that I want on the ps3 controller compared to xbox controller is the little indent in the thumpads.

I have seen videos that you can do it but the adapters are pretty spendy and you would lose six-axis only thing I can think is looking for an aftermarket pad that more closely resembles what you like.

I suppose, if in their depression they caused something to happen then yes, you could call them triggers. However, the literature refers to them as Button L2 and Button R2.

I liked the playstation controller when I was younger as it fit my hands better. Now that I have very large hands the xbox controller is a lot more comfortable, whereas the PS controller ends up very uncomfortable over long periods of time.

I find I get cramps from the PS2/3 controller as its a little too small for my hands (which are a bit lanky but hardly gargantuan) and have issues with the analogue sticks sensitivity. My personal preference still lies with the original XBox Behemoth (tm) controller although I can certainly understand why its not to everyones tastes.

Edit: Actually the PS controller is much better for Beat em ups due to the DPad and face layout (I use the two forefinger on the face buttons stance)

Yes (assuming you could get one with the accelerometers in), the Xbox controller is more comfortable, has a much nicer weight, has far better triggers and face buttons, and simply popping out a couple of rechargeable AAs and slapping some new ones in is much more convenient than tying the controller down to recharge it.

No, I hate the shoulder buttons and the face buttons on the 360 controller. While the triggers on the 360 controller are better and the analogue sticks are spaced slightly better, the PS3's analogue sticks are more senstive and it's triggers don't present any problems once you get used to them. Most importantly though, I find the PS3 controller to be the perfect weight for a controller.
Overall I prefer the PS3's controller, they also seem to not wear as quickly as the 360 controller, the buttons on those lose their feel far too quickly.

and if it wasnt for "real triggers" id have to say i really hate the PS3 controller. as it stands with real triggers its ok. just not quite as comfy as the 360s.

No.

I don't think the 360 pad is a particularly bad design, but the quality of manufacture really hurts it (that effing D-pad). I'm also not a fan of the stick placement in Xbox controllers, they make the control schemes for left/right handed players different.

I would alter the Dual Shock 3 slightly, changing the profile of the two triggers a little, but overall I think it's a much better design.

I'm used to the 360 controller for some games, but I'm used to the PS3s for other. There are certain games it works for and some that it doesn't. If it were up to me, I would replace all the controllers with a keyboard and a mouse.
