Ok, this is a little obscure, but I just read the novel "Rant," dealing with time travel and such. So my question to you is, if you could, would you resolve your origin?

For those of you who have not read the book, resolving origin means going back in time and killing your mother, or some other ancestor, before they give birth to you. This removes your origin makes you immortal.

Also, I'm not here to discuss the mechanics of it, i'm here to discuss the morals.

Yes. All I have to do is find an ancestor I don't like. Got to be at least one (starting with my father...)

But...that doesn't work that way......That makes no sense...How?

And yyeah. If I could time travel and be immortal, why not. Thats what all Time Lords do anyway.

Absolutely not.

However I would go back to 1963 and kill every woman with the surname of Kotick.

I would probably have a hard time going through with it, but considering the amount of suffering I could save a whole lot of people from, if the rest of time travel physics would bear a single resemblance to reality, I'd almost be forced to do it.

Well since I haven't read the book, I can't really relate so i'll just inject my own belief here: If I kill my own mother I disappear right then and there. But then I could have never come back in time and killed her, so I come back. This happens over and over until space rips open and time stops. So everything that will ever have or will happen, happens at once.

As for the moral aspect of it, I think that there is none if you were never very close to your family. If you have a chance of living forever, it isn't something that has to be argued. Its a simple decision: Yes i'll live forever or No i'll die at some point. Its all based on how easily you get bored. If you're easily entertained you'll be fine living for a long time.

Um...I fail to see how that would make one immortal. In fact, I fail to see how that would do anthing. Regardless of who you kill in the past, you still exist.

As for the question, hell no. Why would I want to be immortal?

No, I wouldn't.

1) I'm not a murderer; if I was to take another's life, it would be by accident or in self-defence.
2) Without a way to become mortal again, I feel that immortality is more of a curse than a blessing.
3) My views on time travel is that the past cannot be changed; that if I went into the past, I've already been there.

Well you cant really discuss anything of it, it just doesn't make sense how it would make you immortal, there are no morals since it has no thought behind it, its illogical.

The reason this can't happen is because if you went back in time, and you tried to kill some one or do anything out of the historical timeline you would either

A. be cast into a differant universe (based on the multiverse theory were there are infinitally many numbers of universi, were lets say you walked left on a path on your universe, in another universe you walked left, any variation that is possible actually happened, just in another univers, like nazi's winning ww2.) you would simply end up in another universe altogether.

B. theres no possible way to change the past even if you could be there. You would either end up helping along the normal processes, or you simply would not beable to kill someone, even if you tried to shoot them point blank, somthing at some time would stop either you or your bullet from shooting who ever it was you were trying to shoot in the past.

Yeah the idea that becoming immortal after killing your parents is retarded first off, due to ABSOLUTELY NO BASIS, and it's just stupid. Try thinking of somthing abit more logical

And what magical pixie force would make your atoms disappear? If you could time travel, and you did kill your blah, then you would simply be stuck in the past with a dead person in front of you.

I wouldn't be talking about magical pixie forces if we are complaining about time travel here.
The whole thing is hypothetical and unless you can prove me differently (Try it), it is also impossible.

I don't understand how this works, but I'm pretty sure one of my ancestors was a d*ldo, so, why not give it a try.

I don't believe I could bring myself to do something like that. I guess the whole idea that we have only one shot here at things on earth means you're kind of pressed to try and make something of the limited time you have. If you had an infinite amount of time would you ever achieve anything? How would you handle the boredom, or constantly seeing those you care about age and pass on? It'd be a very strange concept, and not one I wish to explore. Interesting idea though.
