Yeah of course so I could say I'm a explorer, colonizer and a advernturer! But I'm sure the Earth Forces/Colony Resistance Wars for resources, freedom, independence or against oppresion would come soon? I mean who doesn't see that comeing from a mile away?

I'd go, it would be awesome. Anything to get away from this dreary place.
I'd even go if it meant spending the rest of my life on a spaceship. partly because they'd a) use cryotech to keep us asleep until we get there or b) make ships nice enough for people to want to live in.
and there isn't much chance of us colonizing a rock/ice planet, as they're not really attractive to settlers are they?
besides, who on earth decided we have to jump on the starwars wagon and have planets that are 'city', 'ice', 'desert', 'jungle', 'water', etc. Is it all THAT hard to imagine a planet that has all of these landscapes... I know nerds don't have much in the way of a social life but they can't spend that much time in their mother's basements that they don't even know we have all of that stuff right here on earth...

Wait, wait, isn't there some weird thing that happens in space--when you're flying that fast--you don't age correctly or something. My professor was talking about it in my physics class...or maybe he was talking about some SCifi show...I can't remember.

when going at near-light speeds, your aging would slow. So, 100 years on earth goes by while you travel, and you age 2 years (probably not that much difference, but you get the general idea)

Would it be like the New World colonalists 16th Century where you only had what you could carry, coz there would be NOTHING (Well, assuming there isnt life there already, which is another point) Starting from scratch with only what you had on your ship would require so much stuff and knowledge that the first few generations would have it so, almost impossibly, hard.

spaceships are much bigger than the ships they had back then, so you can bring more stuff. I think people would be smart enough to take ten library's worth of knowledge before going off to colonize worlds and there would of course be contact with earth. Internet will be that good by then.

I don't care what conditions I'd have to face, I'm in (it's not every day that you would get to see another world so why should slight discomfort or a long trip put me off?).

The only thing I would have a problem with is if our spacesuits/envirosuits look stupid or have product placement (if I'm going to represent mankind then I should look good doing it).

Oh god yes. I'd love to get up into space. Be one of the few people who live one of those really rare lives? I'm all over that. Even if I were to die in the cold, metallic shell of a spaceship I'd still do it.

Yes if I could actually make it alive, and preferably not too aged, to the new planet(s). I'd definitely do it if it meant cryogenic freezing though, so I could be relatively unaged in hundreds of years time...

I think it would be really badass to colonize another planet even if it had a very harsh environment. I wouldn't do it if to get to said planet to many decades.

Why can't I be frozen down? If I could be I'd go just to see another planet aslong as I had some friends or persons I know with me.

I'd drop everything I have and jump on that shuttle in two skips of a worg's tail.

I'd also bring along Bug Spray, because who knows what kinds of zerg creatures we'd encounter. A crowbar, and a firearm of some sort - preferably something that can pierce hard insect-alien carapaces.

I'd also bring along all 10 Seasons of Stargate SG-1, 5 Seasons of SG Atlantis, Star Trek: TNG, and all 14 Episodes of Firefly plus Serenity.


Then I'd be set for this journey.

yeah i guess that would work. I just imagined the internet being so awesome that we could access it from jupiter though didn't really put a lot of thought into it
