I dont remember where I read it (it may have even been here) but there was a study which said that there is strong correlation between attractiveness and intelligence.

So if you are smart you are statistically likely to be pretty, and vice versa. Kind of defeats the purpose of the poll ;)
Sounds like an interesting study, if you happen to find it or remember its title I'd love to give it a read. I agree that every med student I know take very good care of their bodies, mostly because they know what is involved with bad lifestyles so that may have some truth to it.
Found it: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/01/attractive-people-are-smarter-than-you-too/

Oh gosh no. I like being smart. Attractiveness would not help me in my chosen career path, but intelligence does. No Contest, I would rather be smart than handsome.

I'd consider it, I don't really like the way I look and there's some things I would change (which I'm currently doing, but it's a long, hard slog)

I'd hate be be known as the dumb bimbo, though, and wellm be pretty fucking stupid. It's a catch 22.

Why is there no reverse option to make yourself uglier for intellectual gain? Seems a bit one sided.

It all depends on the ratio of attractiveness given per unit of intelligence. If one IQ point's worth turned me into a super model, sign me the fuck up. The devil is in the details.

Well I already have both. And modesty, too.

Nah, I'm kidding. I'd stick with what I have now, though.

Sure I would trade some of my incredible good looks for a boost to my intelligence. Makes live easier. It's not like I know how to use good looks anyway.

i get most of my friends, lovers, and business from being intelligent-nobody in my life besides my mother seems to care that i'm not attractive. so i'd probably stay the way i am. but i answered "i'll consider it," because society is on a track now that in a few years, girls won't need to be smart as long as they're pretty, and i would definitely adapt if my little world were to change in that respect.

I gotta admit, my cynic-drive kicked in when I saw this, and I clicked yes straight away. But then I thought "would I still be intelligent enough to pursue film as a career?" Of course, if I were attractive, I could pursue acting, but I had my heart set on the eventual goal of director. And a good one, not just an actor who decided he wanted to sit in the chair. But as it is, I'm not attractive enough to even think of a social life. I could either be popular and wanted by everyone now, or I could achieve a possibly loftier goal in life, but have to suffer years of solititude up to that point. It's difficult. I guess I don't really know what I think.

ABSOLUTELY. heh. It depends on the exchange rate. If I could have super model good looks (inspired by my own looks, I don't want a totally new face) and a perfect body by giving up five IQ points I'd do it in a flash. It would do wonders for my career (anyone's career, really) and I wouldn't have to work at all in social situations if I didn't want to.

If it was 5 IQ points for a slightly better nose and 30 for perfect good looks of course I wouldn't.

I'm not too bad looking right now so I will have to respectfully decline. I'm no pretty boy but I'm not a pimple faced, buck toothed freak either.

For one to have succes in life, looks can actually be very important. Not only in your sexual/love-life, but also in your career, where first impressions can be very important to get a job. To get the entire picture of how intelligent a person is, you have to know them for a while, but looks can be imtimidating, so in fact looking good can dramatically improve your chances in the job market, as well as the way people treat and respect you. It's just the way human beings work. We always typically see someone before we speak to them the first time (unless it's on the phone), and human beings just use the "elevator look" where we, somewhat, judge people on their looks, their clothes, their facial expression etc.

So currently, i actually wouldn't mind trading a bit of my intelligence for a bit of better looking. But I'm only 23. Once i turn 40 i probably wouldn't.

As someone who is neither all that intelligent nor pretty, I'd stick with what I have. Frankly, I kind of like being an unattractive lump of a man. It makes life interesting, at least.

Fuck no. I'd rather use my intellect to earn the money required for plastic surgery, if I gave a damn about improving my appearance. I'm happy how I am.

it depends on how much intellect I would lose, I'm not all that bright so if I would lose 10 points of IQ for brad pitt's face on a cage fighter's body then yes, but I don't want to be the worlds most handsome pants wetter.
