Either be who I am now or be all Durr i R hotz n gitz gurls LAWL.

Please don't tell me people would really do this, it's not that hard to get laid if that's what people are worried about.

If it's just about being good looking enough that everyone stares at you all day and night, prepare for the jealousy.

Rumors, harassment, pretty much ruining your life just because you look better than them.

Of course this is just in high school, it gets worse in College and University.

But after that it goes away, and you're still flipping burgers at McDonalds while that smart but not as good looking kid owns the 36 McDonalds in the county and comes to the drive-thru in his Ferarri.

Just how much intelligence exactly?

Or could I not just go for the treatment and spend the next few weeks on wikipedia to catch up with where I was? :p

I dont remember where I read it (it may have even been here) but there was a study which said that there is strong correlation between attractiveness and intelligence.

So if you are smart you are statistically likely to be pretty, and vice versa. Kind of defeats the purpose of the poll ;)
Sounds like an interesting study, if you happen to find it or remember its title I'd love to give it a read. I agree that every med student I know take very good care of their bodies, mostly because they know what is involved with bad lifestyles so that may have some truth to it.
Found it: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/01/attractive-people-are-smarter-than-you-too/
I think this article is a bit exaggerated. I read it, and there's one sentence that stood out. "Attractive men have IQs 13.6 points above average, while pretty women score 11.4 points higher." Now, I don't know a lot about the IQ test, but isn't 100 always the average? So these attractive people are scoring 114 for men and 111 for women. That's still kinda mediocre.

That certainly is not mediocre. It's above average for a reason, no it isn't "genius" level, but it's far from mediocre.

And it makes sense on an, albeit flimsy, scientific basis. Smarter people are more attractive to encourage other smart attractive people to breed with them to create more smart people and so on.

I have no intelligence to trade so its an easy choice for me.

I'm damn good-looking already. But if I could knock a few points off my IQ to be guaranteed a chance to age really well so that I end up looking like the Dos Equis Guy or Captain Picard or even Jamie Hyneman when I'm 50 plus? I'd take that. Not like I'm gonna need to be smart with the job I'm planning on doing after college.

I already consider myself to be pretty attractive, and pretty smart as well. So my answer is no.
Oh, and what the hell? Every time I read one of these threads to do with beauty, I end up reading some people's posts in Vega from Street Fighter IV's voice. It's REALLY WEIRD.
ESPECIALLY THE GUY ABOVE ME!!! SERIOUSLY!!!b]
Just great. Now I have his theme song stuck in my head.
Da, Da, Da Da-Da-Da dadada, DUh DUh Duh Duh Du Duh, DA, Da-Da-Da-Da Dada...

I am already rather intelligent so my plan would be to reverse the trade off. Trade the low-moderate amount of attractiveness that I have to kick my IQ up to genius level. Then as a wrinkled, hunchback, mad scientist I would devise a solution to develop physical attractiveness...problem solved.

Barring the ability to reverse this transaction...hell no. Even though I am not the best looking guy in the world, I have friends and a beautiful girl who love me for who I am (cliche, I know) and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

+ most "attractive" people I know tend to be douches, but I think that is just due to high school/college and the way that some people in that age bracket act.

Lets say for the sake of the topic that one day technology reached a point where it can make anyone more attractive than they are with no monetary cost involved. There's no contract involved, no adverse physical effects and is completely instant and painless. But there is still a price, in order for it to work, you will lose some degree of intelligence in the process. This intelligence will be unrecoverable and you can not change your mind afterward. Also, your personality won't be majorly affected, you will just get dumber.
If you already feel you are fairly attractive, you will become more so after the exchange.
Would you take up this offer? Would you be willing to sacrifice knowledge for appearance? Or would you rather be unattractive and intelligent? (I am in no way implying my fellow Escapists are unattractive, I'm merely curious)
Oh hell no. My intelligence has helped me a hell of a lot more than my rugged good looks.

Hmm, I remember reading an article by Voltaire comparing two people in India.

The first was a man. A philosopher, sagely, extremely intelligent, and a pillar to the community. The second was a woman, poor, common, unenlightened, petty.

The first man, it turns out, was miserable, so consigned to the sharp realities brought by his intelligence and the plights of those he helped. The woman was happy in her ignorance.

And yet when asked, the wise man would never wish to trade places with the poor but happy woman. The truly interesting question is why we feel so driven to choose intelligence, when a stupid and pretty face would seem to leave us happier.

No, because it's easier to become attractive than it is to become smart. (Not that becoming attractive isn't difficult, it's just easier than upping brain power.)

Hell no. I've achieved the perfect balance. Stunning looks combined with endless intelligence.
