Uh,what?Back to belonging to England?Unite itself with Mexico? Were you high when you came up with the idea for this thread? We all know that China's gonna buy the US pretty soon,so I'm surprised it's not THE ONLY option in the poll(no,in all seriousness, only about 7% of the american debt is owed to China, and obviously,I'd want it to stay independant as it is.It's the most powerful country in the world, and you think it could unite itself with Mexico?Whaaaaat?)
Heaven forbid someone puts up a hypothetical question on the internet. And god forbid someone over react to a hypothetical question on the internet. Oh wait, it's the internet, that always happens.

Why on Mexico and Canada?

Double why on England and China.

WTF on Japan?

Seriously, what is the reasoning on these five? Until I hear the reasoning behind these choices, I'll stick with Independence.

Also, no-one ever gets mad at the Canadians for bombing/murdering innocent people and nations.
Even though that does not happen?
That's what I mean; the Canadians rarely (as far as I know) bomb innocent people, maybe they'll be a good influence on the Americans.
I mean the Yank's do not do that.
Well you could argue that the invasion of Iraq was entirely under false pretense, but that's been done to death. Instead, here's the most famous video of American soldiers killing undisputedly innocent people, the wikileaks released Collateral Murder.
<youtube=5rXPrfnU3G0>

My favourite part is where they find they've just killed two children and one of the soldiers says "Well, they shouldn't bring their kids into a gunfight" It's their fucking home, you brought the gunfight to them!

Watch on Youtube [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rXPrfnU3G0]
I have seen that and plenty of stuff like that happens in war, every country has killed civilians for better or for worst and that is unintended. I never heard anyone going
"nice job, let's look for more kids to kill."

US and China would be one hell of a dynamic duo. They'd need a whole new term for what they'd be: a sovereign power.

I wouldn't feel to safe as a citizen either in Chinamerica or elsewhere because all that power (and nukes) could really make a lesser power paranoid.

Man, Japan and the US as one country. That would be one hell of a big debt.

As a couple posters have mentioned, I doubt we would ever give up our sovereignty. It would be more realistic for the U.S. to add a 51st state like Puerto Rico.

As in would you want the United States to join with Canada and give up sovereignty.
"Give up sovereignty"? Ignoring issues of economic power, military strength, and population size, why would America become some sort of slave-state if it were to merge with a foreign entity?

And protip: we already did that anyway. America started out as thirteen states. Now, we have fifty. And we didn't change our name every time we acquired a new state.

Or go back to belonging to England. If yes, pick a nation in the poll. If not, pick that option in the poll.
What's the point of this thread? What does it accomplish? What could possibly have possessed you to think that this had something thought-provoking to offer?

So I guess I'll be voting 'Independent.'

*Pffffttt...hahaha*

Hell, no. Why would we want to do that? This question makes about as much sense as that "Would you want to be annexed by the U.S.?" one.

If you're a citizen of a country that is well-off enough to have widely available internet access, chances are that you're not so desperate that you want to be absorbed into another country.

The U.S. should not join any one country. The U.S. should use its influence to be a founder of an international confederacy of nations which will be greater than any single nation ever has been. First we should invite other developed nations. Consolidate stability and power. Later developing nations. Use the resources of the confederacy to help bring them to strength.

Then, finally, once absolute strength of the confederacy is assured, we bring in undeveloped powers and bring them up to par with our excess.

The world united under one banner.
Sigh... Seriously, not being a troll here, but f*ck off Communist (not a personal insult, nor the curses of a right-wing mad man).
I'm sorry, but that's a terrible idea. It won't achieve anything except discontentment. Peace is achievable through other means than establishing a global nation. It's called the UN. However, before I continue my argument, may I ask what method of government you would envision in this dream world of yours?
A Confederacy that unites nations. Nations with excess of certain valuable resources would, in return for the support of the rest of the world, agree to distribute some of those resources either cheaply or freely to other countries.

U.S. gives away food.
Arab countries oil.
X gives away Y.

Each nation within the Confederacy would be able to maintain its own governance as that is an internal issue. While I would hope that the sort of cooperation built by the confederacy would lead to a more Communistic attitude and that more nations would internally shift to egalitarian command economies, that is an internal issue.

Speaking on behalf of Britain: America, you are not our problem now
I'm a South African who has made the UK his home for many years and even I have to say:

Here, here!

They wanted independence and to wear the big boy shoes and they did. Until those shoes ended up costing several trillion dollars they don't have, whilst fighting several wars they don't need to and still try to tell the world how to live.

Think you will find that while England recently suffered a mild setback in the riots, we're still doing better than the USA.

...

We suffered major rioting but are still in better shape than the US...

Hmmmm...

EDIT:

And Canada still recognizes the Queen... so that would be awkward.
