Ok first off this isn't a fun apocalypse with like zombies or aliens this is a more mundane super volcano going boom or global warming.
I got the idea after watching a program about potential ends of the world (no i dont believe in 2012 etc), i mean would you want to take part in the slow regrowth of society, bearing in mind you have lost all the comforts your used to in this day in age (electricity and the fossil fuels to generate it being very limited as you cant gather it), and you will only essentially watch the degradation of what used to be the world you lived in and not see any real progress in repopulating the world in your generation.
To me the sheer scale of the task ahead would be so monumental id just blow my brains out specially as i really dont fancy being a farmer or any sort of manual labourer being very lazy.

Yes. I'm probably the one who led the apocalypse you know.

And when few people are left, I will easily become the new overlord of the world, and I will build the world how I want to.

Actually - yes, I woulnt mind that one second. Sure life would be though - but certanly way more rewarding than anything we can do now.

Seems I'm in the minority here. I'd shoot myself as soon as the opportunity arose if the world was ending.

Definitely. I'm storing some of the information I deem most important on my external hard-drive and I'm making a list of all the people invited to come with me.(more as a fun hypothetical with my friends than because I expect it to happen any time soon) It's basically one long camping trip, and couldn't get any more fun. And electricity isn't all that hard to get your hands on. It's very easy to make a hydro/wind power generator out of car alternators and wood if you have the right tools. Get enough of them hooked up to a bank of car batteries and you can simulate house voltage(for short bursts, or maybe just enough to run a refrigerator full time). It's not much, but it's something. Also, most of our modern comforts that would actually be hard to live without (toilet, shower, ect.) are pretty easy to make without modern equipment.

I don't really know. I feel like an objective or a goal like reestablishing society might actually make life a lot easier. None of all that hanging around bored, only fighting for survival. I think it could give me a sense that what I do matter.

So maybe.

Yeah I would probably want to. I mean after all I would then have a significant role in rebuilding humanity. That would be pretty damn awesome, not to mention rewarding

Id say no because doing all that work seems hard with none of the fun end of the world things to do like stealing or killing zombies, aliens, demons, ect

Yeah, because I have quite a will to survive and it would be fun to part of a small tight-knit survival community even if we didn't have many amenities.

Yeah, I think a 'mild' apocaylpse would be ok, one where there are still plenty of people and natural resources around, but we just regress back to stone age times. That would be alright. Tough, but the 'Ray Mears' in me would love to live in that sort of world to see how I would fare.

However, a 'serious' apocalypse, where virtually everyone else is dead, or ragged scavengers, there are no more trees or crops, and you have to live in rags in a wilderness, living off whatever disgusting things you can, and all you can do is wait to horribly die, I wouldn't fancy that.

Yes but only because I am not selfish well not will to kill myself. Why kill myself when it look grim, I would be wondering a "what if" I survive long enough when it get better? Who know maybe I could achieve something in the aftermath of the apocalypse.

Definately I quite like living, and the engineer in me would enjoy the trying to solve the problems that it would throw up.
