I've recently got back into WoW, (waits for scolding), but I quite like the game (bar the grinds), which is why I thought about buying some WoW gold, not loads, but about 5000g (well kinda loads) for my mount. But I was wondering what the Escapists general opinion on buying gold was.

I wasn't sure if this was breaking any forum rules, but I couldn't see any rules against it. But I'm not sure if people will feel outright comfortable with (and if you aren't I ask you to PM me instead, as I would like as many peoples opinions as possible) the next bit, which is were I ask you, if any of you have, and if so were from. Because I'm quite suspicious about most WoW selling sites, and so would prefer to have one recommended (an EU one).

But Mods, if this is breaking the rules (which I'm still not sure if it is) feel free to lock it (after all it is part of your job).

I am against buying WoW gold simply due to the fact that gold selling services earn a lot of their funds by hacking player accounts, planting keyloggers in fansites etc.

It is, all in all, illegal activity.

Don't buy it. It's against the EULA, for one, and it's dishonest. Gold buying is the best argument I can make against WoW: people aren't playing for the fun, or the enjoyment of the experience. They just want to get better, look shiny and have the top gear.

No, just no...

Do you honestly want to throw away real money for a virtual gold? Also, there are other methods of getting epic flying mounts besides buying them. At the very least, there are some to be had through achievements...

Stay away from it. FAR away. A few good reasons to do so:
-Gold farmer sites are infested with scammers and keyloggers. If you even go to one, you are more likely to get hacked or worse.
-Blizzard takes steps to make sure the game stays fair and that includes banning people that have in fact purchased gold or items for real money. If they find out, you can kiss your account goodbye.

Yeah, but what if you want the gold, to have better stuff, so you can do more fun stuff?

Gold farming does kind of ruin the fun of the game. Granted it is difficult to raise the gold but it is annoying getting messages from bots or gold farmers every time i went on asking me to buy gold when i just wanted to quest.
edit: oh and if Blizzard found out i think they would strike the ban hammer hard and fast and leave you're account in a mound of squelch :(

Its wrong.
In every way its wrong.
Its agianst the TOS, it gives you an unfair advantage agianst other players, and you're promoting activities of gold sites that are bad for the game itself.

Gold buyers and sellers are in violation of the terms of service, and it's certainly not just WoW that suffers from the scourge of Gold Farmers and the morons that buy things from them. Just about any MMO with currency that allows players to transfer said currency ends up being plagued by those pesky Gold Farmers (though at least one title encourages selling in-game items for real money, so in that specific example it's okay). I don't play WoW, but I've had more than enough exposure to spam-bot advertising about gold whilst playing Guild Wars, and that's a game where there isn't any 'best' gear - most items are only different in appearance, not power - didn't stop the gold farmers!

Don't be a chump, say no to buying gold!

gold buying is illegal in wow, and will most likely have the GMs delete your account. a week or so of daily quests and instances can easily give you the needed money.

or you could begin crafting stuff.

all in all, dont do it. i have 7, yes 7 characters with epic flying mounts in lvl 80. it doesnt take very long.

but, those achievements are generally the "clear entire raid instance with all bosses on hard mode" achievements. they take:

1. a really good raiding guild.
2. top notch gear.
3. raid guilds want to look your achievements through before they can see your a good raider.
4. its really fucking hard.

Don't use real money to buy useless in-game items, that's all.
About sums it up in its entirety. Its not logical to waste real money buying fake money.

Don't buy gold, with mounts getting extra cheap what do you need gold for even? Now that you get achievements for completing quests you might as well backtrack to get all of them, that is a pile of gold right there. Or you can take up mining/skinning/herbing and sell to the doofuses who do buy gold and inflate the price of everything on the AH.

I wouldn't play WoW until Cataclysm comes out anyway. According to the notes the gameplay is going to change entirely.

The 10 man ones are a joke...Also, there are other ones you can get that aren't necessarily 310% speed from non-raid achievements.

Hahahhahah.

Hahahahaha.

Hahahahaha.

No.

Was this helpful? You are lucky Blizzard employees are not visiting this site, or you would get your IP banned so fast, you wouldn't be able to say "Catac...".
