You risk getting banned from the game, and they're lowering the prices with Cataclysm, so just farm a little and wait for the price drop.

Well I don't think you should buy it, it's a waste of money. If you can't put in the time for the gold I guess you should learn to do without.

If you really are very into WoW then go for it. I have a friend bought some gold, then forgot about it and went to Australia for a month. When he came back it had arrived, sat around for awhile and then been sent back due to "account absence".

WoW has made it so easy to farm your own gold, it doesn't seem logical to BUY any gold, especially from a gold farmer.
Exactly, WoW has become extremely casual nowadays, people can pug most things and still do at least a little something, or get gold extremely easy thanks to Dailies which are piss easy, or just run daily heroics. Plus, every1 laughs at you for buying it

It seems a lot of people here are against buying gold. Hmmm.

Kid on computer playing WoW:Yeah, i'm gonna buy gold, then i'll be awesome.
(commando Comes in)
Commando:Careful Kid! Those gold farmers might hack into your account if you buy gold from them!
Kid: Really? Wow, I can't believe i was going to fall into that trap.
Commando:Stay away from those cheap gold farmer losers, they won't get you anywhere.
Kid:Now I Know!
Commando:And knowing is half the battle!
G.I.JOOOOOOOE!!!!

Now that that's out of the way, I shall let everybody else resume with thier duties.

Don't buy gold in WoW. It starts messing with the value of in game items, and that will affect the whole economy. Any if you want to live in a world with a b*ll*cksed up economy, you don't need WoW or even a computer to do that nowadays! =D

I personally think don't, not because of any ethical reasons, but because if the game is so dull and repetitive (in your opinion) that you end up paying real money to have a shortcut to where you want to be you just are not being entertained.

Spend it on something else, try new things. Have you considered prostitutes and hard drugs? What about DVDs of Walker Texas Ranger? Or you could become a Scient*l*gist?

No, just no...

Do you honestly want to throw away real money for a virtual gold? Also, there are other methods of getting epic flying mounts besides buying them. At the very least, there are some to be had through achievements...
but, those achievements are generally the "clear entire raid instance with all bosses on hard mode" achievements. they take:

1. a really good raiding guild.
2. top notch gear.
3. raid guilds want to look your achievements through before they can see your a good raider.
4. its really fucking hard.
1. There are Reputation rewards to be had.

2. There are non-Raid achievements to be had.

3. There are Heroic instance badges to be had.

4. Even if it's really fucking hard, shouldn't that be the point? You don't spend a ton of money, but instead earn it through your skill?

I believe this thread has already given you your answer, if you are basing your decision off of the opinions offered here. But I suppose it really depends on why you play the game.

If you play for the fun of playing, it seems that buying gold would circumvent a good deal of play time, which kind of defeats the purpose of playing, yes? If you play for the ego boost of being a digital death dealer extraordinaire, then sure! Why not? Your money will most likely go to a needy country where it will go to much better use than you just put it to! But if you play for reasons unknown to you, be very careful, because you are coming up against a lot of complicated psychological tricks.

MMO's are quite insidious, in my opinion. They are basically like online slot machines. You give them some money, and then, if you click your mouse enough, you get rewarded. But instead of having to shell out real money, like casinos, they give you fake money that you can only use in the game. They give you chips that you can't take out of the casino! Buying gold is basically the equivalent of buying more fake chips. Basically the equivalent of buying
Monopoly money with real money. If you really like Monopoly, then maybe it will be worth it to you?

Personally, I think it's crazy that Blizzard hasn't caught on and started selling gold itself! Imagine how much more they'd make if, in addition to your subscription fee, they could also sell you Itchy and Scratchy money to use in their digital fantasy world!

Try making gold by signing charters for guilds and joining and unjoining guilds.

Just like many people on this thread have said... Although here's my completely useless version:

Buying ingame gold is like the Dark Side of the Force. It's not any better than earning the stuff yourself, but it is quicker, easier, more seductive.

From what I've seen of people who practice that (and I admit I've done some gold buying with EVE Online... Although that's a bit different in that it's legal there) is that it easily becomes a habit. Once you buy some gold to purchase some amazing ingame items, you think to yourself, 'Wow, this is cool!'... And then you run out soon after. And you have to keep on buying more to keep things at the level you have become used to.

In the end, you end up without a solid infrastructure for getting stuff yourself and you may come to rely on the gold farmers for your items.

Not saying buying gold makes you a bad person at all (discounting whether it's against the EULA or not), but from my experience, I've found it's a ton more fun and rewarding to find a system to get your gold that doesn't involve buying it.

My 2 cents, at least.
