Do you think that Blizz is going to far with World of Warcraft by adding yet another expansion? Instead of making it a new game entirely. By now, the story of the world is so convoluted, it's practically impossible to follow. With every new expansion comes a whole new set of story archs and changes to previous expansion quests up to the point where Outlands is an actual and current threat to the world whilst at the same time, people are pissing there pants for another current threat that's actually taking place years in the future (Lich King) And now they're expecting new players to follow? I mean, those of us that have been there for years can probably follow easily. But new players are totally screwed.

Should Cataclysm just go beyond being an expansion and become World of Warcraft 2? Or are you satisfied with it cluttering up the game even further?

I can't see what's wrong in them in making a new expansion. MMO's can't survive without constant new content patches.

I don't play it, but if I did, I'm sure I'd be quite happy they were adding content. So no, not going too far.

Every region is going to be altered and reviewed. They're not just tacking on another island, they're reshaping the entire world and adding new class-race combinations.

They are just adding on and expanding an already massive world and keeping the players intrested, i think all MMORPG makers should try to acheve what WOW has done

Having freed myself from the shackles of WoW I don't particularly care what they do or do not add to the game. The Cataclysm expansion looks interesting, by no means drawing me back to WoW, but those who do play it should have more fun with new races, class combos and revamped areas. It's likely there may not be a WoW 2, simply more and more expansions if they go that route.

Why would people go to their new mmo just like WoW if they already put endless hours into WoW.

Do you like money? If you had an item that made you money, LOTS of money and the more you added to that item the more money people gave you, would you toss away that item for a shiny, new one?

If you replied yes, then apparently you work for FOX.

New stuff=Good in MMOs, I doubt Blizzard wants another player to "Beat" Wow so they need to keep adding new content. This does essentially make a new game however as the entire old world is completely altered with brand new content. Before the expansions only concerned high level players so I actually think this may be a step in the right direction for Wow.

More content is bad? Are you insane?
WOTLK made me stop playing... so more content isn't always good. and the one thing i've been giving wow is the story... but now when every letter in the whole series of novel which warcraft comes from been put into WoW, it's just bad. I mean Nefarian resurrected... heroic deadmines...

Well Blizzard makes around £25 a second on subscriptions alone so they can really do what they want.

And I'd say yes to an extent. This is why I quit playing it since they are making every zone in the world (even the low level ones) into areas where level 80+ stuff will be happening. Also with every expansion about three quarters of the features added last time become irrelevant.

If you think WoW's story is convoluted, you've clearly never played any games from Japan. Those things are so confusing that kittens die when they try to understand them.

Here's the thing: I play WoW, have since right after Burning Crusade came out, and I'm just happy for more content. I'm not a "hardcore" player, and to be honest I really make no effort to understand the overall story. It's enough for me that I have a game filled with choices as to where and how I play. I care about the story only so far as it relates to a particular quest chain I may be on, but the game offers so much that I don't need to be invested in the plot--I really can't imagine that many players care about it, either.

No more so than the immersion breaking of people killing a raid boss over and over. The design limitations to creating boxed expansion content is almost always going to lead to weird time shifts or small holes in the story. Even non multiplayer games can fall pray to this, in Dragon Age Origins the Darkspawn Blight was perfectly content waiting just long enough for me to finish each and every side-quest. What should have been this ever present and extremely pressing story issue actually wasn't on the design side.

Back when I was still playing I never found the story that hard to follow once expectations were adjusted for it being an MMO world.

If you find WoW's story hard to follow, learn to pay attention. It is very simple to follow. The story progresses as you level. And no, a WoW 2 would never be a good idea and Blizz knows this.

Take the time to read quest text, its not hard to follow in the slightest.

Terrible idea. I vote no.

Not at all. Besides, why waste the money developing a new MMO when most are just going to prefer playing the classic? WoW has reached the point where it's nigh untouchable by any subscription mmo.
