I don't like WoW, but it would be stupid to reboot it. Besides, additional content is the reason people sink so much time into MMOs; there's always something new to do.

I started playing again at 3.0 and stopped playing just after 3.2 came out.

I've seen what they've done with 3.3......... "Hey guys look i JUST dinged 80 lets do some 5 mans and get tier 9! YAYS!"

Well Blizzard makes around £25 a second on subscriptions alone so they can really do what they want.

And I'd say yes to an extent. This is why I quit playing it since they are making every zone in the world (even the low level ones) into areas where level 80+ stuff will be happening. Also with every expansion about three quarters of the features added last time become irrelevant.
That's just... Wrong. They're not making every zone 80+, they're not even adding in level 80+ stuff to the zones (unless you count archaeology for some bizarre reason...). They're revamping the zones to move the storyline on to past Wrath of the Lich King.

Also, what features of the Burning Crusade have become irrelevant with the release of Wrath of the Lich King? I can still play a Draenei or Blood Elf, Jewelcrafting is still a massive part of the end game, Outland is still necessary for anyone wanting to level, and I've had people ask me how I got my "of the Shattered Sun" title because it's so cool.

Lots of people still play, so new content is awesome.

I don't see what is so hard to follow about the lore, maby its just me.

Do you think that Blizz is going to far with World of Warcraft by adding yet another expansion? Instead of making it a new game entirely. By now, the story of the world is so convoluted, it's practically impossible to follow. With every new expansion comes a whole new set of story archs and changes to previous expansion quests up to the point where Outlands is an actual and current threat to the world whilst at the same time, people are pissing there pants for another current threat that's actually taking place years in the future (Lich King) And now they're expecting new players to follow? I mean, those of us that have been there for years can probably follow easily. But new players are totally screwed.

Should Cataclysm just go beyond being an expansion and become World of Warcraft 2? Or are you satisfied with it cluttering up the game even further?
If you find WoW's story hard to follow, learn to pay attention. It is very simple to follow. The story progresses as you level. And no, a WoW 2 would never be a good idea and Blizz knows this.

Take the time to read quest text, its not hard to follow in the slightest.

Terrible idea. I vote no.
Let me summarize the story in as few sentances as i can:

Titan becomes evil, posses a wizard who makes a portal that lets demons and orcs in azeroth.
wars ensue for domination. lich king is made, completely fucks everything up. so begins the aftermath aka WoW.
Close enough for me.

When Lich King came out, people were level 80 within 24 hours, I think they need a new expansion and I think they need to raise the level cap by more than 10.

EVE: Online just came out with the Dominion expansion, which is number 11, IIRC. So, seeing WoW follow in EVE's footsteps can only be an improvement.

...except for the whole charging money for every single expansion pack; I'm surprised they don't charge for the patches, too.

Not at all.

EverQuest, a game that came out in 1999, just released its 16th expansion last month. 'Nuff said.
Wow, that's a lot, I had no idea.

Edit2: Whoops, I guess 12, not 11.

Also, EVE Online has had twelve expansions, and is still going strong.

It sounds like your problem is that it confuses the storyline. This is not an issue, since you have to complete a storyline before going to the new area with the new one.

*cough*3.3 is T10*cough*

No, WoW is not going too far. 2 expansions (3rd on the way) is nothing - Just look at Everquest, Everquest 2, Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot etc. They're on many more expansions than WoW is.

The problem you've highlighted (previous expansion still considered a threat) is nothing to do with the number of expansions, it's to do with Blizzard not going back to previous content to keep the story consistent. Outside of Roleplay it's barely an issue, and as WoW players know, roleplayers are a minority so it's not likely to ever really change unless it has to.

The world of warcraft will never go "Too far" anyone who has played the original warcraft games knows the main story well enough, anyway how many new players would care to even follow the in game lore?

Personally I would have set World of Warcraft 2 in that world's future so that there is little lore from the first game to come as well. Sort of like 200 years after the Lich King was defeaten, a new enemy rises and a whole new set of races and alliences must come and conquer it. There would still be an Allience and a Horde, but a lot of new races like the ones already coming to Cataclysm and some others. Make WoW 2 the endgame so that after the Lich King in Wow 1, there could still be less massive, but very important events.

So if you make Cataclysm WoW2, you can still make other expansions that deal with like old races from WoW 1 rising again and wanting to claim the world for themselves. Or something, I dunno. let WoW meander out like it should have done after Lich King.

mmm... so you are saying that the old lore would be available to players in WOW1, and new lore in WOW2... it might actually work, for those that are already lvl 80 and played all of WOW1...

make wow 1 the past and wow 2 the future might work, it seems interesting

In all honest I cannot see a problem with it.
If some big compant wants to make new content for a game, let them because hey guess what? It's their game, they can do what they want with it, like it or not.

You're playing an MMORPG, those things are practically made with expansions in mind. I can't believe an MMO player is worried about extra content.
