I was talking to my friend the other day, and told him that he should try playing World of Warcraft. Well, it was a mistake, you see, he loves runescape.

I think WoW is one of the best (if not the best) MMORPGs of all time. But, most people think it's nerdy and addictive. The game itself, if you can get into it is a bit nerdy, but not addictive. There is no actual "storyline," except for the little three minute history on your race when you make a character. The classes are well made, races are well designed, and customizability (if it's a word) of your character is good. Granted, graphics are not the best element in the game, the dungeons and raids make the game incredibly fun, even though there are no level 80, 40 man raids. The sound is extremely well made, and you will see that a lot of effort was put into it. The only thing i absolutely hate about the game is that when i run low on mana and try to spam Seed of Corruption, all i hear is not enough mana, not enough mana, not enough mana, etc.. Basically, it's a good game EXCEPT for:

>The level cap is constantly increasing, when 60 was level cap it was extremely good.
>The new spells for WOTLK are the cheapest fuckers out there
>And Blizzard is going to release an expansion just for being a certain class for certain races.

Sound: 8.5/10
Graphics: 8.25/10
Gameplay: 9.75/10
Overall:9.5/10

Do... Do you mean Cataclysm? If you do, I think you may want to put a bit of research into that...

Well I tryed runescape and found it rather good. Its quests didn't consist of just go over here and kill everything, quests required thought, their version of an "auction house" was more like the world trade center, meaning that supply and demand changed the prices on it, you didn't wait for a server because your bound to no servers, the game is cheaper than 10$ a month, it also had cool minigames to play which could get you cool armor or random sets. However it wasn't all great, its graphics were not great but it ran smoothly, and it had almost no loading screens because of it, whenever you did anything dangerous you ran the risk of losing most of your items (except the 3 most expensive ones), travel was very slow, you had to work for hours to earn money, very little to no group minigames or quests, and combat wasn't all that exciting (a step below WoW). Still if dying didn't take your stuff just like in WoW I'd probably still play it.

Yes I've tried WoW, but didn't find it addicting at the highest level. The dungeons always had loot you wanted, but never got, classes were unbalanced, finding a group was like pulling teeth, and the quests were pretty much escort, kill x amount of monsters, group quests, and go to person, this made it all too repetitive to play after reaching 80, the same is with the combat repetitive (like runescapes). Other than that it's a great MMORPG

Erhm, Cataclysm is probably going to be the most extensive expansion yet. Personally I can´t wait to see what they are going to do with the Old World.

But, point in case, it is not going to be the cheap ripoff that you seem to think.

*Disclaimer*
I it won´t. The evidence so far seems to suggest that you´re wrong.

Damn... your poll confused me! Haha.. i ment to pick 'its evil and crushes your soul into oblivion' - Ironically oblivion is the opposite ;)

Well World Of Warcraft, is a good game - highly addictive though, that is if your always wanting to get that next item; that next level; that next pet... yada yada yada...

Its just a ***** because you DON'T FUDGING GET ANYWHERE! I used to play Neverwinter Nights online and that was an awesome game online(/offline) because, it was about killing other players and becoming the god of that server! - not pansy assed crap. But thats just me.

There's a reason more people play WoW than any other MMO, ever.

There's a reason I don't play WoW anymore.

WoW is the reason I don't play any other MMOs.

This is not a review is it?

Good and bad are you having a laugh? you bearly scratched the surface, this could take up a whole page if u went into depth.

Dont say the game isnt addictive, it is the single most addictive game in the world! Ive seen people first hand let their social lives wither away as they play that game. Ive even played it myself, and know how easy it is to let time slip by and keep playing. If your going to make any statements like that then atleast explain why you think that. Then your review might look like a raview with a valid opinion, rather than this thing.

Although i do agree with you on the point about it being better when the level cap was 60.

ok, i tried RunEscape and didnt like how there was no se class lineup, as i am always accustomed to seeing in most MMOs so i promptly quit it (that and having to be a "Memeber" just to climb a rickety old fence that was probably about knee-height or do anything else cool in the game.) WoW is one of the most popular and one of the most frustrating games out there for me for four reasons:
One: it's mainstream, meaning most of it's playerbase is full of morons, douchebags, and pricks
Two: it is NOT the bast MMO out there. i have played subscriptionless games that are much better
Three: its costs lots of money to keep up to date (buying expansions, prepaid game cards etc.,)
Four: It's too easy to make overpowered characters

now Guild wars is a good game and for 20 USD a pop, there are three games : Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall each with a different story, setting, and varying classes, plus, you can use numbers and spaces in your name, a concept WoW hasn't gotten the hang of yet i assume.
I personally own factions, an oriental adventures style (think D&D OA) game with all of the samne classes from Prophecies with the addition on two new ones: The assassin, built with all of the rogue hates from WoW and the Spiritualist, a shaman who can summon ghosts to his aid.
plus, the graphics are better. :) yes there are a few problems, but if people stopped hating NCSoft for Tabula Rasa (a name i will never utter again, i'm sure that many WoW fans would flock to this game. yes the resurrection system is a bit clunky, seeing as you get penalized when you die, but it makes the game more challenging, although they take it to an extreme. but being able to pick up NPC party members is awesome and it almost made me weep when i found out i didn't have to rely on normal players anymore, and with Eye of the North's Heroes (nPC pary members you can customize like characters) it make the game more fun.

There should be an option for "I'm playing it right now."

Which I am.

Oh, and this is barely a review. Put some effort in to future attempts. You sould go in to much more detail, and including things like screenshots will make it much more readable.

By the way, you can turn your character's voice off. So you won't hear them constantly saying "Not enough mana."

Please. I've seen more people get addicted to Fallout 3 than Warcraft. Actually, all Bethesda games are worse than World of Warcraft - I can't count the number of times I've been exploring Tamriel, thinking it was only midnight-1 in the morning, only to be interrupted by my roommate getting ready to go to work... And seeing a large part of my Friends list doing the same thing.

World of Warcraft has always been a conscious decision to stay up, for everyone I've ever talked to in it.

I think that's one of the good things about WoW. You don't get usernames like '13g0145' or something like that. The amount of times I've seen that type of thing on LIVE or any other online service.

You've got to understand that what WoW has done is release a well done game that has harnessed a whole host of things that aren't even in the game to aid in entrapping the enthusiast. The greatest part of WoW isn't even the game per se, but the social interaction (it doesn't kill social life, it replaces it with a crude simulacrum). As a recovered (sort-of) WoW addict, the thing that keeps me playing (just not as much anymore) is the links I have to my guild, my arena teams, my raids. As a game company, Blizz just moves the goalposts on you constantly, there's no game incentive really to play past a certain saturation point in time. But if they can hook a critical mass of a raid for a new encounter, that group can drag the rest of us merrily on to see new content, whether or not we were really that thrilled to start with or not. The raids and guilds have websites, forums, signup pages for raids and arena matches, battlegrounds, third party mods out the ass, voice chatter over vent......I probably play less than four hours a week now, but I spend at least that watching strategy video, posting in threads and researching new game mechanics. WoW's success is it's ability to recreate society, with chainmail, demons, and dick jokes.

I'm trying to boycott pay-to-play MMOs. If I needed to spend money, there's plenty of good hookers video games to spend it on. And after a month I'll still have the games.
Aka I play Guild Wars, World of Warcraft's easy-going cousin.

fallout 3 dont take the piss.
WoW is online for pete sake. Because everything is real time people find it harder to stop playing. they have to play to keep up with the rest of the server.
For example a guy playing fallout is asked if he wants to go down the pub. he says "sure let me save and ill come out"
Now a guy playing wow is asked "hey wana go down the pub?" he replys "oh im sorry i cant miss raid night" or "i just need to get a few more arena points"
i wont deny fallout is an addictive game its just easily stopped, people can take a break.
And most importantly fallout ends! A person can do what, 3 or so characters? Do every quest in the game, discovering every possible outcome, but by then theres nothing else to do.

Typical denial, nobody in their right mind is going to say "im addicted thats why im staying up" would they?

im saying guild wars and wow are one and the same, one is slightly better, the other one needs work, but if they came together, we would have a decent MMO worth slaving your free time away to.

ok yeah there's that problem but there is so much you can do with one word names. It is one of those little things that digs into the back of my skull and gnaws away at it like a deranged parasite. i at least want spaces

WoW is currently the best MMO out there, many have tried to top it and have failed. I haven't played it in at least a year though.

Much as I feel loyalty towards City of Heroes, I do have to agree with this. Its world and systems are extremely expansive, its difficulty curve is pretty forgiving, and it's casual-friendly and challenging at the same time.

Off-topic: you have an awesome username that I can't say out loud without giggling.
