If people stopped releasing MMO's with the intention of 'killing WOW' then they'll fail.

I love WOW but people should really stop trying to 'kill' games and just try to make them original, fun and exciting.

WoW is the God of MMOs. All other MMO's must pay homage and not speak such blasphemy like "WoW killer" lest they end up like Matrix Online.

Nobody is trying to be a WoW killer. Nobody is trying to kill another game, they're just competition. People also play more than one.

WoW is aging, that's apparent, and until Blizzard releases a new shiny thing, people will continue to play it. However, there will be a reduction in players when expansions make it harder for new people to join, hackers bust accounts and the players don't want to do it all over again, and games don't have an infinite life, they may still support it but, in time all will fade back from the spotlight.

Guild Wars is going to be supported with updates and the like even when gw2 is out. However, it is obvious that more effort will be on gw2.

Its gonna be tough to kill WoW. Its become a monster, an unkillable monster making Blizzard $100million a month. I never played WoW, but Ill play the new Star Wars one when it comes out
I hope it is as good or better than wow. I would pay for that.

There will not be a killer.
It will be suicide when Blizzard starts to fuck around too much with expansion 3005
They already killed it with their first expansion - it's just not what it was anymore.

But out of the options here I'd say Star Wars would topple it since it combines Star Wars and MMORPG - the 2 biggest nerd magnets possible.

World of Warcraft is an island of excellence in the midst of a sea of mediocrity over a seabed of terrible. Somehow blizzard got the mmo formular right and have managed to tweak it over the years so it stays (somewhat) fresh, the only way it'll be knocked off its top spot is with a game that is truely innovative, original & most importantly addictive.
is that the best you can do, you didn't even get anyone ragebanned.

We have all heard of "killers." They never seem to do the job. Killzone was supposed to be the halo killer and we've seen how that turned out. Do you think any of the upcoming MMORPG games will be a WoW killer?
Well the breeding rate of the average WoW player is substantially below that of the rest of society so within a few generations the problem will have taken care of itself.

I think it'll probably disintegrate on its own over time. As much as I enjoy playing, I've seen how it's developed from pretty much the beginning and I think it might become a little confusing and convoluted for new players. Cataclysm goes back and changes the original world and I'm all for that, but is Outland even relevant anymore? How long can Northrend last when everyone's just rushing through it like it was BC content? They've put all this time and effort into WotLK content and now most of the players will just move onto the new raids and instances. Only raising the level cap by five this time is good, but they need to come up with better ways of making old content relevant and useful to players, otherwise new players will have nothing to look forward to but an 85-level crawl and a couple expansions-worth of useless content until they get to where all the big kids are.

I'm not sure if that's something they can achieve in the current game structure. That new MMO they're working on may have to become their new flagship series if they want to stay on top indefinitely.

If WoW has done anything for the market, its proved at least one thing. People dont care about graphics. Seriously the reason why everyone plays WoW is because it can be run on the most standard of cheap lap tops and computers. Every new MMO tries to sell theirs on how sweet their graphics are, but the problem is, when the game requires a huge amount of computer power you cut out probably 9/10s of normal gaming population.

the great thing about WoW is since any one can play, you can always find a friend. Whether one you met online or a mate in town you can always just hop on and start raiding. I think I might have one friend with a computer powerful enough to run Aion or Warhammer.

The only way for a game to be a WoW killer is for the graphics to not be top end. You will play a game if all your friends are playing it.

Haha! WoW killlers *snicker*

On the WoW forums one of the MVPs, (Palehoof) has a list of all the things that have at various times in the last 5+ years been thought to kill WoW. The list is essentially a list of every popular game, patch, or gameplay tweak that has happened since WoW was released.

WoW won't get killed. If it dies, it'll be because Blizzard let it die. Or because the players become so hostile and elitist no new players start playing it. It won't be because a new game came out.

Your first and second sentences are contradictory - I think you meant to say "If people keep releasing MMo's with the intention of 'killing WOW' then they'll fail". Alternatively you could just be schizophrenic.

Of the poll options provided, the only one I care about is Guild Wars 2, and since the subscriber model is entirely different, I really don't see how it could 'kill' WOW in the first place, since it would hardly be supplanting it.
