I played Guild Wars first then moved onto WoW.
Guild Wars is good (and cheap nowadays) but finding groups to do PvE (like main leveling quests) is difficult unless your doing a "mission" (kind of like a dungeon in WoW, but more story orientated, makes more sense to say its like the book quests in Lord of the Rings online.)
There are bot helpers you can take in Guild Wars around with you, and thereis just one big server so if any of your friends join they wont have to worry about getting on the right server (not that its a big deal)
WoW is big. Much bigger, and alot more social.
Yourll find it alot easier to find random groups to do quests with and the world is persistant, unlike in Guild Wars where only the towns have real players running around, the outside world is just for you and whatever group your in. (Pros and Cons for both there)
It does have alot of grinding, unlike the level cap of 20 in Guild Wars but you can hit 20 within the first %50 of the story (depending on version you get), its not about what level you are its how well you play in Guild Wars.
WoW has alot more todo and the profession system makes it a much deeper game (where you take a "job" like mining/tailor/enchanter ect) thats completly not in Guild Wars.
Personally I dont regret buying Guild Wars but I do regret the money I sank into WoW...
I know nothing of endgame WoW.
But basicly...
Guild Wars for PvP and WoW for PvE.
(dont play either anymore)
