Guild Wars, you can adjust your playstyle accordingly and is not based on "ZOMG i hav zee beta arma than u so i win" more player skill.

there are a few grinding things but those are only for the leet players who want the uber achievements.

it has a storyline at least, but this is (sort of) optional

plus its free :)

I never played WoW, it was way too much money and I was afraid I would get addicted. I did, however, play Guild Wars, and it was pretty fun. It has a very low level cap, so you could always make a few characters to make up for that. It takes a while to level up anyway.

Besides, you can get Guild Wars for $20 with no subscription needed, so you're saving a hell of a lot more money.

Guild wars here never have to worry about character nerfs or using the wrong build the only permanant thing is your first profession even the second prof is switchable as often as you like.
Even Armour/weapons are easy to obtain the real variation is from the skills (tons of them) which are gained by killing certain bosses so its actually encorages you to play the game not forcing you to grind, dont think of it as an MMO but rather a 3D version of Diablo 2 its all about the combat.

Hmm... so it's about 3,5 years for Guild Wars or 3 hours for WoW...

I'd say - go with Guild Wars, despite many flaws, it's still IMO better.

I'd say WoW since Guild Wars is fairly short for being an MMO.
3 campaigns + expansion pack + much better PvP + not being an MMO.

I can only say Guild Wars because I've barely played WoW, so I can only speak from experience. But Guild Wars is good fun. Also any excuse to show this.

None! Life destroying games. ;3 Go play outside!

Then again, if you already have no life or you're allergic to the sun or something... I'd go for WoW..

Guild Wars, its not as addicting as wow, and it wont ruin your life.

Not to mention its free.
To put it bluntly: fuck off with the bullshit of "WOW DESTROYS LIVES" its getting old.

Anyway if you're thinking that the fact its a game that does a monthly subscription is going to be the deal breaker then go with Guild Wars.
I have to agree. The game doesnt inject nicotine into your eyeballs or anything. It just never ever freaking ends and some people just dont get that. They keep playing and playing trying to get leveled up to max then when they do its to get epicced out. and then after that get the super mount. and by then. New expansion time.... I would get wow. More people on you might actualy make some friends.

I have played both games for ummmm...about a year. But in all honesty i found Guild Wars to be more enjoyable. The fact that you cant use all of your skills whenever you want is great. The 8 skill build makes you define your playstyle instead of just being your standard mage or your standard pally. The no waiting for spawn thing is also a great thing. I hated sitting around waiting for some enemies to respawn only to have some korean gold farmer to come up and murder them all before i even notice.

I voted WoW but I only play GW. I prefer GW as I like the RPG aspect, but, if you are after an MMO WoW wins hands down just for the high amounts of players and the stream of new content.

Can't wait for GW2 though.

Iv played both brother alas I know your pain brother. But eith my war between Guild wars and WoW Guild wars came out on top even though not many people play anymore you dont meet as many morons in it and it is short but I enjoyed its story and game play.

But it is your choice (if you get guild wars be sure to get the expansion and add me! Valran Scar)

I havnt played Guild Wars so you could argue Im biased but I will give my reasons for voting for WoW.

1. It has more levels to play through which are very interesting.

2. It has a large community which I personally find is more attractive.

3. It is made by Blizzard which I personally am a fan of their games and they don't have to give into any pressure from publishers.

4. Large range of classes and races to pick and choose from.

5. A reasonably good mix of PvE and PvP content which is constantly being updated and added.

A few downsides compared to Guild Wars though are:

1. Need to pay subscription.

2. Graphics to some are not as appealing (although I believe they add character and uniqueness to the game)

3. While leveling is fun... it isnt fun to repeat the leveling more than 2 times so you often feel locked into your chosen class.

Tbh not the best list but I havnt slept all night so its not like my brain is working that well.

Oh for pity's sake, not this question again!

Oh well. WoW is the game for you if you like grind. All the grind in Guild Wars is optional (titles) as the level cap is low and rare item drops don't make you any stronger. Guild Wars has better balanced PvP while WoW's is more large-scale (since GW's is strictly arena-based). I say GW is the better game, personally, and the fact that it has no subscription fee (and is cheap to buy these days) is DEFINITELY better value.

what are you talking about there is NO GRINDING in wow at all, there used to be but they lowered exp needed to lvl and so on...you can pretty much sleep and get to lvl 80 now.

I play Guild Wars, and I tried playing WoW but I couldn't really get into it.

My only problem with Guild Wars is that if you were to start it now, there are three separate stand-alone games that can be linked, plus 1 expansion pack that requires the purchase of one of the previous three. So, if you want to be completely caught up, you'd spend more money initially than you would buying WoW, but, as others have said, there is no subscription fee, which will eventually wind up saving you more money.
