So now E3 has happened to us and Microsoft has lifted the lid and revealed its Scorpio as the Xbox One X, "the most powerful games console" the question that seems the most pressing for me in terms of future big-money gaming investments is this: Get a PS4 Pro now, or wait to get an Xbox One X later?

I mean I currently own a standard PS4 and have been thinking of upgrading the thing to the Pro model just because I'm kind of a whore for more powerful technology at all times so if it exists I must own it.

But the more powerful specs of the Xbox One X, coupled with the backwards compatability with Xbox 360 games that it offers... I never thought I'd go back to Microsoft after my Xbox 360 died the 4th time and I got sick of their bullshit, but I can't say it didn't intrigue the hell out of me.

So I thought I'd open it to a poll.

Which do you consider the better option? Playstation 4 Pro, or the Xbox One X?

I already have a Xbox One so the PS Pro wins by default for me. I bought Xbox because my friends insisted on it over the (IMHO) superior Sony brand but I suppose it worked out since I can default Pro rather than wonder about upgrading as I have no interest in buying a shinier version of what I already own.

To me, what's under the hood is way less important than what it can play and right now, Sony has that category by a mile.

PS4 Pro, because it has several games I'm interested in that I can't play anywhere else. Xbox One (X) exclusive offerings are pretty anemic by comparison, and most of those I can also get on my PC, which shits all over the One X.

It's a pure numbers game where 'Games I want' is the only number of consequence, and Sony is handily winning it that game.

The Pro. The price, the games, the brand, its got it all. Nothing makes me want to buy Xbonex. It actually shocks me at how badly the XboneX is at an disadvantage. Even the one thing that it has, it's superior power, is likely lost on most people who are interested in buying a console.

Microsoft needs to do some major damage control. Announce a crap ton of games, get a fucking VR thing going on, and bring down that price as soon as possible.

You know what, I don't even support this shit. Fuck these console upgrades. It's bad enough my phone gets obsolete in a year, I don't need it with consoles. It's a big reason why I'm moving to PC.

In your place i would keep the base Ps4 for exclusives and get the Xboxx for everything else. I love my pro, but i don't think that it's worth the upgrade.

If you exchange your PS4 for a PS4 Pro, you'll likely be able to replay some of your PS4 games with better performance without buying them again.

Do you own a 4K TV? If the answer is no, then get neither, the absolutely shit CPUs of the PS4 and Xbone are still present in the upgraded models and often prevent any improvements to actual performance. The PS4 Pro and Xbox One X can only render at a higher resolution and thus make the game look less shit on a 4K TV.

I'd say the Pro. The fact is that is where the games are. Software trumps hardware every single day. If you're unsure, literally look at the history of the medium. The more powerful system almost never wins.

I do have a 4K TV. It's basically why I'm so interested in having a console that can finally use that resolution.

I'll admit I was swinging to the Xbox One X but that was before I saw Sony's E3 showcase. Leaning more towards staying on Sony's side now, just because of the exclusives lineup compared to Microsoft's.

Honestly, Sony was a bit weak at E3 this year. But there were some stand outs. Dad of War and Spiderman look like solid exclusives. I understand that Monster Hunter is going to be on Xbox and PC, though.

Still, that seems to be where you'll get the most games and content. If you really want to play an Xbox game, you can play it on PC. Which is just one more reason NOT to get the Xbox.

Don't care about power, if I did I'd buy pc, since it's both stronger than the X and has all its games. PS4 wins due to exclusive games.

I am not interested in spending more money for a slightly more powerful console that plays games I can play already even if it is slightly better. Diminishing returns is very strongly in effect and has been for a long while.

If I had neither I would get PS4 Pro simply because it has more games I want to play on it that I cannot get on PC or Xbox. For pure power I would just get a good PC which I may do later anyway if I can find some cash.

Of the two, the PS4 Pro is still a better buy I think. The game selection is just so much better that the difference in hardware hardly matters.

In my opinion you're better off keeping the standard PS4 and just building a PC. You get all of the xbox exclusives anyway plus a machine that's more powerful than either the One X or PS4 Pro and can actually do 4k instead of the "4k sometimes and please don't ask us about framerate" presented by Microsoft and Sony. Not that I necessarily think 4k is the way to go. I think high framerate 1440p is the sweet spot on PC right now for price/performance ratio.

I went with the PS4 Pro because it has games I want to play. Nothing else matters much.

However if you already have a regular PS4 then surely the smart choice would be the Xbox? I don't see how coughing up for the Pro just as an upgrade is worth it unless you have more money than you know what to do with.

I honestly need to see some side-by-side comparisons first. We've seen some Scorpio visuals now, but nothing that looked radically better than the PS4 Pro. Maybe if they have the option to play any game at 60fps I'd contemplate eventually picking one up, but for now, no.

I don't know what the added value of these mid-gen upgrades is when games have to accomodate base hardware regardless. It's all ''look at these specs'' yeah..not impressed. I want to see games that show the difference. Once developers start to fully utilize 4K resolution yeah I'll buy one but by then we're probably in PS5 territory. As of now I don't see what the point is. Even the loading times aren't significantly reduced.

Me too. Though, If I have to buy only 1, the Xbox. My PS4 looks very pretty as is and will play exclusives. The Xbox 1X offers a whole new level of visual awesomeness (and has a 4K optical drive to boot).

PS4 Pro definitely, if you want a more powerful hardware... Buy a PC.
I'm reading different things. I think, to have a similar gaming experience, I would need a GTX 1070 at least. That cost almost as much as the entire Xbox 1X Console.

I'm torn. My current builds play games fine at 1080p. I have a 65" Samsung 4K curve that could use a work out. I think I'm the type of cheap graphics whore they are marketing to.

But that $500, add another $600 and you have a much more versatile PC I could hook up to the TV. And things like Crack Down 3 can be played on either. But another $600? That's a lot when, in my living room, I just want to game.
