My friends IRL already have Wiis and a Xbox360
I enjoy some JRPG's(mostly SquareEnix stuff), Plateforers, Co-Op, Adventure, FPS (games like the ones on the Orange Box and L4D1 and 2)
My brother would be using it also so RTS's and War related FPS would be bought for the system as well.
I like online Co-Op but I dont want to be paying every month for it(Don't have money D
I REALLY like Valve games
I'm quite perticular to graphic quality but as long as they dont totally suck then I'm alright
( sorry for the super long post btw)
Ok, so let's do it point by point:
JRPGs - Sony grabs this one. According to my friend and popular opinion, FF XIII is better on PS3 than X360, and I believe there are more jRPG's on PS3 than on X (I'm not 100% sure here though, so correct me if I'm wrong)
Platformers - this round also goes IMO to PS3 with amazing Little Big Planet and Ratchet & Clank games. On the other side, you have neat games on XBLA arcade though. This is also the place where Wii shines with Super Mario Galaxy and other stuff like that.
Co-op - both platforms are well covered on that point.
Adventure - HEAVY RAIN. My favorite game of all time, and IMO PS3 is worth buying just for this single game. On the other side you have Alan Wake with bonus horror points added. I never played it, but it looks really good. If you add action to the adventure, then you have also Uncharted series on PS3 which turns the scales in PS3's favor even more. If you'll add RPG, X360 gets Fable II and III, which are neat except from the crappy ending from what I've heard.
FPS and shooters in general - Killzone & Resistance series vs Halo and Gears of War series. X360 takes that round, hands down, although neither Kill or Resi are bad games.
RTS - Ugh. Use PC. Just use PC.
War FPS - all are available on both consoles, so it's just a matter of preference.
Not wanting to pay for online Co-op - That's an obvious one...
Valve games - At this point, X360 grabs the point, as TF2 on PS3 is almost dead, and Orange Box on PS3 is glitched. Latest news indicate though, that Valve is steering into Sony's direction, with Steam coming sometimes soon on PS3, more attention on Portal 2 for PS3 and stuff like that, so it's your call again.
Graphic - if you don't really mind, then both will satisfy you.

Conclusion: Yeah, I'm a PS3 owner, how did you guessed?
But seriously, if you want to play multi, then go for the X, because IT IS better than on PS3, and you have another pal who has it.
I personally think that PS3 has a stronger line of exclusives (all mentioned above, InFamous, God of War III - Yummy!), but that's a personal preference again. If you're going to for the single player experience with using PC to play multi, then PS3 is the way to go.
Also, since your pal has X360 and Wii already, buying PS3 will give both of you opportunity to play every possible console goodie, while buying X will lock you from playing some of the amazing PS3 exclusives.
Once again, it's your call, but I recommended PS3.
