I would say PS3, alot of games that are "360" exclusive are on the PC aswell.

Although if you want to game with your friends then there is no choice, to get a 360. Since you are asking this I will assume your not really into gaming with them.

Also get the smallest PS3 and buy a new hard drive if you run out of space, probably be the same price, if not cheaper than a 360 with a hard drive. (as I understand it there is a 360 without a hard drive ... sounds like a PSX with no memory card to me)

Then again I am a bit biased.

Get what your friends have, you'll regret being the only one on PSN while everyone else is on Live.
Precisely the reason I got an Xbox 360 first.

Like, everyone I know has a 360 and 3 people have a PS3. By default, the better deal for me is the 360.

Valve games? FPS games? RTS games?

Stick with PC gaming.

If you want good JRPGs and platformers, go retro. They're not highly saturated genres these days. Get a PS2 for those, PS2 and PS1 has some of the best JRPGs and platformers ever, and you can get them on the cheap.

While I prefer the PS3, if you want to play online with your friends then the Xbox 360 might be the better choice. I find that the exclusives are better on the PS3 than the 360 but then again, that might be my inner fangirl screaming out, as much as I would like to shut her up :)

My friends IRL already have Wiis and a Xbox360

I enjoy some JRPG's(mostly SquareEnix stuff), Plateforers, Co-Op, Adventure, FPS (games like the ones on the Orange Box and L4D1 and 2)

My brother would be using it also so RTS's and War related FPS would be bought for the system as well.

I like online Co-Op but I dont want to be paying every month for it(Don't have money D:)

Going by your apparent taste in games, you might agree.
You know, actually, judging by your taste in games and your willingness to share with your brother, I think you might prefer the PS3 games-wise (mouse-compatible for RTS games! Little Big Planet! Blu-Ray's a nice perk, too). But if your friends are on the 360, and you plan on playing a lot of multiplayer shooters or something, you should probably go with that. Graphics are honestly pretty much the same on both machines - PS3 exclusives tend to have better graphics than 360 exclusives, but cross-platform releases almost always look better on the 360.

Full disclosure: I'm a 360 owner, not a PS3 owner, and a long-time PC gamer (though not so much anymore) but I really don't consider myself a fanboy of anything except Gears of War 1... so yeah, I enjoy 360 exclusives more than PS3 exclusives =P

Also, and this is important: Avoid Valve games on anything but the PC like the FUCKING PLAGUE. They're fantastic on PC, but shite on everything else.

If you like platformers and JRPGS, and you REALLY like Valve games, get a PS3. It has a better range of great games. The 360 is more shooter tailored. That and Steamworks is coming to the PS3 next year along with Portal 2. Online Co-Op. Anyone saying the 360 has better online than the PS3 doesn't really know what their talking about. The online capabilities are on part of the game's own servers, not Sony's or Microsoft's servers. And really, paying for Live has no point anymore. It doesn't give you anything more than the ability to play online, and the ability to pay even more to subscribe to other services like Netflix. You mentioned that your friends have 360s and Wiis. I would have said go with the 360 but the genres of games you mentioned seem more single player oriented, minus your liking of Online Co-Op.

Go with the system that has the exclusives you're most interested in. That's what I did with the PS3 - Sony just had more games I knew I couldn't play on the XBOX. Plus the free online play was very attractive.

That having been said - I also got an XBOX later on - I just had to try out Mass Effect, Fable and some Halo. Now, if I have a choice I always go PS3, but can still play the greats that are only available from MS.

i personally would decide which has the better exclusives due to the fact that there is litterally no difference between the consoles IMO the only difference to me is that i dont have to pay for PSN

you strike me as asking an honest question, so im not going to call you a troll. however, topics like these always lead to flame wars. if you play online and like shooters and sports games, get a 360. if you like rpgs, get a ps3

The games on both systems are great. The only time the PS3 really beats out the 360 in graphics is with their exclusives. If all your friends have a 360 you should definitely get one. It's the reason I got mine.

Both are identical exept for the following: they have some exclusives each and Xbox needs you to pay to play online which is both a blessing and a curse, Blessing: you meet alot less underagers who cant handle losing. Curse: It's PAYING TO PLAY.

I have an Xbox and while I dont regret the purches (I rarely play online) neither do I feel I got a better deal than if I had gotten a PS3, like most have said already go for what your friends have, thats the reason why I chose the box (well that and halo) :) you never know if you get the Xbox we might meet...

Wow, I am pleased to see this isn't a big flame fest. I'm proud of you, Escapist!

OT: If your friends have 360s and you want to play with them, then you already have your answer. Really though both systems have their pros and cons, and based on your (and your brother's) preferences, you could really go either way, but if your friends have 360s...there ya go.

Oh, and I wouldn't recommend Kinect...atleast wait until a few good games come out for it. Same for the Move if you go the PS3 route.

The PS3 has better exclusives according to me, but that's pretty much all it's got. Blue-ray and free online isn't really that important to me. But if your friends all have 360s, get a 360.

360 is for online with friends
PS3 is for offline single player
Wii is for playing with IRL friends
PC beats all consoles, hands down, on everything. There are generally a few games each year made only for consoles and not PC but the "PC gamers only pirate our games so we'll only release on console" fad is over with. Also you can't play RTS on a console period, so your brother will hate you forever, possibly burn your room down with you locked inside. Are you willing to take the chance?

If you are dead set on getting a lame console get a 360, PS3 just keeps ripping out its feature due to exploits so soon they'll realize that you can't exploit their system if there is no usb ports or bluray or any other input, and no video output. If you had access to an original launch PS3 I'd get that but they aren't really worth it IMO.

I'm quite perticular to graphic quality but as long as they dont totally suck then I'm alright
( sorry for the super long post btw)
Ok, so let's do it point by point:

JRPGs - Sony grabs this one. According to my friend and popular opinion, FF XIII is better on PS3 than X360, and I believe there are more jRPG's on PS3 than on X (I'm not 100% sure here though, so correct me if I'm wrong)

Platformers - this round also goes IMO to PS3 with amazing Little Big Planet and Ratchet & Clank games. On the other side, you have neat games on XBLA arcade though. This is also the place where Wii shines with Super Mario Galaxy and other stuff like that.

Co-op - both platforms are well covered on that point.

Adventure - HEAVY RAIN. My favorite game of all time, and IMO PS3 is worth buying just for this single game. On the other side you have Alan Wake with bonus horror points added. I never played it, but it looks really good. If you add action to the adventure, then you have also Uncharted series on PS3 which turns the scales in PS3's favor even more. If you'll add RPG, X360 gets Fable II and III, which are neat except from the crappy ending from what I've heard.

FPS and shooters in general - Killzone & Resistance series vs Halo and Gears of War series. X360 takes that round, hands down, although neither Kill or Resi are bad games.

RTS - Ugh. Use PC. Just use PC.

War FPS - all are available on both consoles, so it's just a matter of preference.

Not wanting to pay for online Co-op - That's an obvious one...

Valve games - At this point, X360 grabs the point, as TF2 on PS3 is almost dead, and Orange Box on PS3 is glitched. Latest news indicate though, that Valve is steering into Sony's direction, with Steam coming sometimes soon on PS3, more attention on Portal 2 for PS3 and stuff like that, so it's your call again.

Graphic - if you don't really mind, then both will satisfy you.

------

Conclusion: Yeah, I'm a PS3 owner, how did you guessed?

But seriously, if you want to play multi, then go for the X, because IT IS better than on PS3, and you have another pal who has it.

I personally think that PS3 has a stronger line of exclusives (all mentioned above, InFamous, God of War III - Yummy!), but that's a personal preference again. If you're going to for the single player experience with using PC to play multi, then PS3 is the way to go.

Also, since your pal has X360 and Wii already, buying PS3 will give both of you opportunity to play every possible console goodie, while buying X will lock you from playing some of the amazing PS3 exclusives.

Once again, it's your call, but I recommended PS3.

I have a PS3, 360, and Wii and yet 80% of my gaming still occurs on my PC. The other 20% is on the 360. The PS3 has become my glorified blu-ray player and the Wii just collects dust. If your friends have a 360 then I would go with a 360. It has a lot of good games and a lot of really good older games that you can get for under $20 at just about any game store.

Here's a good idea Buy a Ps3 and upgrade/buy a computer so that way you can play most of the 360 exclusives (such as gears, fable, left 4 dead) on Pc.

Then your pretty much sorted.

If you mates don't have a Ps3 you can always game on the Pc with them. Steam has got a fairly large and very decent community to it.

The 360 is seriously not worth the plastic its welded on. I had two of those in just three years and guess what...they both broke.
