well vista sucks and you should upgrade to windo......WAIT WHAT!... You haden't bought a computer in 7 yearsand wanted a Gameing computer, and you choose to buy a computer with only 2 gb of dedicated RAM...and VISTA?!

I bought my computer about 1.5 years ago and it was fairly cheap, with a good GeForce graphic card and 4gb of dedicated RAM, AND Windows 7.

Sorry dude, but next time you should do some research before purchase!
Pretty sure that he was talking about the GPU RAM.

Oblivion will work on Vista, my brother still uses Vista and has no problems. Install the service pack, update oblivion, google search for some advice forums if you still have no luck.

They still sell Vista? The fuck?

Seven is better in every single way. As in, it works.

Vista was a release that focussed on improving the user interface and adding new features. I think a lot of the reason it gets so much hate is firstly that the new features weren't particularly efficient due to not having several generations of polish, and secondly, and most importantly, users going "Aaah! Change! Change is bad!". Windows 7 focussed on the back end of the operating system, polishing everything from Vista (so should definitely be used instead), as well as being released long enough after Vista that people were kind of used to the interface.

As for Oblivion not working, try finding the executable for it, right click it, properties, compatability tab, and then select to run in XP compatability mode.

Because Vista is terrible.

Also use punctuation, that was agonizing to read, you're not Yahtzee.

Because I need to have a headset plugged in to play Cod4 or before for some reason that is why I hate Vista. That and the needless amount of bugs and shit UAC it has.

I've played oblivion on both 7 and Vista, it most definitely does (or at least can) work.

And Vista isn't bad, it's just inferior to 7.

Vista is like a 160mph car crash but instead of a car you have a circus car with 17 midgets in it, and the other car is a pie truck, hilarious but sad.

vista is rubbish

Vista is a very poor OS, it just hogs resources and is so clunky and bad, but if it's working fine (for now :p) then stick with it. But you should definitely take a look at upgrading to W7 at some point, it's excellent.

I had Vista for a while and had a unique problem, where I couldn't open programs normally by double clicking or pressing enter. I always had to right click EVERYTHING to make applications run. If you needed to run something that you couldn't right click for cetain reasons (like virus scanner) then bad luck. The computer generally ran slow, froze on me and had trouble with external devices.

Installed Windows 7, never regretted it. I think it may be that Vista is very heavy for a computer to use, which may be an issue with your gaming experience. Honestly, when they were offering free downgrades to XP, then there's got to be a problem with Vista.

Yeah... none of you people have actually used Vista on a machine with a decent amount of RAM have you? It's no more a "resource hog" than W7 is, just that by the time W7 came out manufacturers got the message that 768Mb is not enough. Try 7 on a Vista launch machine and show how much "faster" it is.

Vista incompatibility? Dunno, that sounds weird. Most if not all things that work on Vista work on W7, I'd have imagined it goes both ways since 7 was more of a "let's do something to replace that piece of shite we've put out" than a "ok, it's been a while, new OS time".

What Vista sucks at is in how much RAM it eats and how slow it is. It also had shitty compatibility to begin with, but that was sorted out in time, 7 had the good fortune of stuff for Vista working mostly off the shelf.

What?! are you praising Vista for it's badness, I really don't understand...

Anyway Vista is the half baked early release of Win 7 and they charged $300 for that, that is why there is somuch hate.

I use vista and have very few problems that can't be solved with a little effort to find a workaround.

I've heard that a lot of things don't work on Vista but otherwise I don't think it's a particularly bad OS. I haven't really used Vista to be honest, I went straight from XP to 7. Windows always seems to use an unecessary amount of RAM though, which I just find sort of annoying.

You might need to re-read what he said. 2GB of dedicated graphics memory. He mentioned nothing to do with system RAM.

Considering he only got it recently, i'd say that it's probably a 6950 or 6970.
Ok my bad, somehow my mind needed to re-boot...or maybe i just where trying to copy files from one folder to another in Vista and my crashed.

Yeah, and again, sorry i should have read it properly, and sorry for the abd joke, but vista vil slow down to a crawl if you want to copy or transfer files

Well, vista is slower than it should be and uses more ram than xp or 7.
And to quote a website :
"Vista is Windows XP, with incessant security-dialogs for every action you take, with a nice Theme, some UI effects and searching".

And here are more reasons why people don't like it:

http://apcmag.com/10_reasons_not_to_get_vista.htm

There you go, some good proper reasons why people don't like vista, not a post such as "well vista is just bad because it is".

that isnt a game i mean my god how many games are exclusivly XP and 7 it just pisses me off to no end for example what is proberbly my favourite game ever (oblivion) is unable to work on this becouse oh look its XP only.
so yeah why all the hate to vista and why all the hate from vista to my games.
Firstly, do you know how to use punctuation, or pause to breathe while speaking? Secondly, Oblivion is not XP only, I've played it fine on Win 7 64-bit with some tweaking and more add ons than I can count.

XP doesn't support DirectX after v9, and Vista/DX10 got rid of DirectSound, so no more EAX (except with ALchemy). Aero in both Vista and Win7 takes system memory and GFX memory to run in the background, so out of the box will automatically have a 10% performance penalty compared to XP on the exact same hardware, all other things being equal.

If you will only ever play DX9 games or older, XP is without a shadow of a doubt the best choice for gaming performance and compatibility. However it is a decade old now and will never be able to play more recent titles which only have DX10 for example (not so many yet but will grow). And there will always be odd incompatibilities with Win 7 too...I couldn't get Hitman: Blood Money to run for very long for neither love nor money for example. I don't know how you could have had a brand new PC with Vista factory-installed but you've been short changed by the merchant. You can live with it and get by fine and can install DX11 fine or upgrade to 7 and enjoy a faster, more usable and up to date OS with about the same gaming performance.

But a huge drop in CPU use when moving windows, due to a combination of VSYNC stopping all available power being used to redraw the window and using the graphics card to render windows instead of CPU blitting.

Vista/7 also have a number of behind-the-scenes optimisations that allow for a more stable framerate.
