When it comes to Assassin Creed, if there was one aspect I would GLADLY like to see let go in the new sequel, it would be anything and everything to do with future Desmond and his setting. I hate Desmond. I hate the whole gene-memory technology crap. And I hate all the Da-Vinci Code Illuminati are bad and behind it all conspiracy theory crap that follows.

Now of course this is just my opinion, but I really don't think I'm alone on this in the slightest. For me Desmond is like the aliens in the last Indiana Jones movie, it ruins the entire setting and theme in the franchise, it straight up ruins it. And I hope I won't have to play that idiot in the next game and all the scene with him in it can be skip-able cutscenes.

So who else feels the same way?

I feel he is semi-decent, but he can't compare to Etzio/Altiar.

It does tend to ruin the feeling quite a bit when your suddenly popped back to the future.

I would like to see him let go, unless they can make his bits more then platforming with talking.

I don't really see the point of him anymore. I mean when the first Assassins Creed came out I am pretty sure I was not alone in assuming that by 3 we would be playing as Desmond roaming the roof tops of New York.
But now..we're still in the past looking at life through someone else?s eyes. I know we don't know too much yet but I really don't see the point of Desmond of the Animus anymore.

As for Desmond I like him...for what they have they have given us but there could and should be more.

I was fully expecting this as well. When Creed 2 ended with Ezio revealing locations of other apples around a world that had as yet to be "discovered", i was thinking the following games would combine elements of desmond in the modern world with ezio from the past, each affecting the other. but that never materialized.

i haven't had time (or really been motivated) to finish revelations, but i truly abhor the desmond sequences. i feel his character has been lost -- both literally and figuratively.

I like Desmond. Even if they've had little chance to build upon his personality. I keep hoping every year that the next game will be the one where we finally get to play him in his time, but instead we get 3 stupid games with Ezio, and now another ancestor for the upcoming game.

Desmond is boring. The past is much more exciting. I just want him gone and more past assassin goodness.

Seeing as how he is the central plot that ties the entire series together...no, I don't want to see him go.
exactly, he brings everything together, and
they mentioned him in Ezio's timeline, therefore he IS the essential piece of the story, simple as that.

plus for anyone who is bitching, he has handled this shit quite well for just being a simple bartender (if i remember right?)

If I remember correctly (and I do) Assassins Creed III is the last game to feature Desmond as the future assassin. This October see's the conclusion of his story.

But I like Desmond, he's our link into the greatest history lesson!

I'm not really that fussed about Desmond himself, it's more the modern time period. If I want a modern stealth game, I'll play Splinter Cell. Or Metal Gear Solid. Or Hitman.Or....
You get the idea.

Then again, I'm a huge fan of history, so I'm kind of biased.

I really don't give too much of a shit about any of the AC story lines, and Desmond is the digital embodiment of just that, so I hurried through all his stuff, and skipped whatever I could to go back to the fabulously various ways of stabbing people who dress funny, while dressing funny.

Love all the AC games to death, and love the historical story lines, just hate Desmond and the whole memory bullshit, would have much preferred Play as the actual character at the actual time.

Also, Desmond stabbed whatsherface! (spoiler)

This. I hate Desmond, I bought Assassin's Creed to play as a stealthy assassin in the past, not some smug American running with his cool gang throughout Italy.

I gotta be honest as much as i do feel that those sections were a step back from what brotherhood had in which you got to run around the villa! but ultimatly they actually helped you learn about desmond and its because of these sections that i really like him as a character, but im just worried because this IS his last game, they've told us we would be playing more of him than in any other game...yet we havnt seen a single trailer or gameplay demo of him.....this has me worried, unless theyre trying to keep it off as a surprise.

but OT. I like him, but i cant wait for a new main character.

You should have added an "I don't care, really." option 'cause that's how I feel.

Desmond seemed interesting only as a framing device not as a character.

He started going in the right direction in Brotherhood, then in Revelations they put him in a coma. Which... yeah. Not the thing to do if your character is considered 'a bit boring'.

One of the most boring characters in the gaming world.

What puzzles me though is that Ubisoft are so obsessed with getting us to like him even though the only reason anybody plays those games is to play as the assassin.

You known the interesting character who stabs individuals (a lot) in time periods which gaming mostly ignores.

The idea that I would want to see more of Desmond in a modern setting for the Assassins Creed franchise...haha no.

I only played the 1st and the second installment and i really didn't care for him, in fact i felt like the games would have been better without him. Since Desmond is supposed to be the protagonist everything else is just a memory from a time long forgotten and it doesn't really matter much what happens to the assasins because it has already happened. At least thats how i felt while i was playing the game.

They kinda made him at least passable in brotherhood...

...but in revelations they did a complete 180 and turned him into a mopy whiny brat. It's especially bad in the first person platformer side missions, where that's pretty much all he ever does, whine about his family. God I hated that so much.

I'd honestly prefer the series go on without him and the whole present-day storyline. They could easily tell Altair, Ezio, and...the new guy's story without all of that.

Desmond is a crap character, but an exceptional storytelling device.

You can do all sorts of interesting and creepy stuff with it, like this:

I got chills when she blew Ezio off entirely and started looking away from him and directly into the camera.
