If you do the loyalty missions first, you can put off some of the later recruitment missions, but you still have to complete them all before you can finish the game.

You say that, but how do you know? Have you actually tried to go on without recruiting someone?

It sure SEEMS like the game will let me. Miranda even asks "should we go now, or keep building the team"? And I always say "go now" because I've already gotten everyone long ago and done every single possible side quest and reached level 30 so I no longer even get XP.

The point being, I've never been in a position to attempt to go on without getting everyone. Have you actually tried it? You seem very sure about this, but you haven't actually said you've learned this from experience. If so, please say so (otherwise I might try on my next play-through just to find out).

Poppycock - I have never lost Tali, she's a freaking dynamo with a great shotgun. Hell, in my canonical Mass Effect, she was the one who put the last bullet in Saren: Tali for the win. And how is she racist. She joins a team for the sole reason of saving the galaxy and its species.

*Miranda, because she's not actually good... at all. And she's full of herself and has daddy-issues.
*Thane, because let's face it. What good is an assassin against GIGANTIC sentient machines. Is he going to bust out the garrotte and strangle them?

Mostly I'd just get a whole new team to begin with. Seriously. These fuckers refuse to bring useful skills and armour to the field. And they all have their own little shitty problems and issues that needs to be dealt with. Well guess what? I have a fucking galaxy that is depending on me to survive! You can worry you shitty ass about your puberty, or your sister you've never really known, or your racial stereotype dad who left the family when you were young, or your son-gone-bad once the universe as we know it isn't about the get fucked.

I personally found Samara to be the least interesting. Had fun with her side quest, but her character is just so dull. I'm pretty sure she did die in at least one of my playthroughs and I won't miss her when I carry that one on in ME3.

You're allowed to kill ONE of your squadmates from Mass Effect 2 with no repercussions whatsoever. So who's it going to be?

Personally, I'd "accidentally" push Jacob out of the airlock. He's the Kaiden of Mass Effect 2, the "goody-goody", "by-the-book" sidekick, and for that he needs to die.

There's only eight spaces on the poll, so I had to combine two of them.

EDIT: This is a sad day. We just got the first votes for Garrus/Legion and another for Mordin. There are pigs flying outside my window.

Agree with the original post and the edit. I also would fire Jacob (via flamethrower) and recruit Carth Onassi. And HK-47. And Canderous. And Wrex. And Morrigan.

I am glad I got to see both Ashley and Kaiden Die, in ME1 they were fine, but after that lecture in ME2 I was glad that they were both dead somewhere on my hard-drive

And Jack, oh god, kill her NAOW! The only ones I need are Garrus, Thane, Legion and Tali, The asari one (can't remember name) from ME1 was also quite good, but not needed...

Okay, let's think about this. Let's assume that the player has not recruited Zaeed, Kasumi or Legion (as they are indeed optional.) You have nine teammates now, if you lose Jack, Garrus and Thane because you don't have any ship upgrades, you're down to six. If you lose Mordin as your Tech Expert, Grunt as your team leader, and Jacob as your biotic, you are down to three.

You're required to leave at least one person to delay the Collectors, and you always have to have exactly two squadmates with you at all times, unless scripted otherwise. If you skipped any recruitment missions, you'd only have two teammates left. You can't go off with only one squadmate, and someone has to delay the Collectors while you fight the Human Reaper.

Skipping recruitment missions isn't possible.
