Ok, a lot of Jack hate in here I see. I thought she was pretty reasonable considering she was physically abused as a child, experimented on, forced to wander her whole life being used by people and her only escape was pretty much being imprisoned on a mission that nearly guaranteed an imminent demise. Oh yeah and the people that are keeping her under lock and key are the same organisation that experimented on her.

But that's just me. If i could kill anyone it would probably be ... Morinth? The only squad mate that I actually hated was her and she's sorta dead.

Can both Jack and Miranda die...no...fine Jack then the whiny ***** needs to stop acting like the whole world revolves around her.
How? she specifically goes out of her way to go to the most secluded part of the ship so she doesn't interact with the world.

Not that this needs a lot of explanation.
On the contrary, the title could be clearer. I thought that you meant Mass Effect, either the first game or the series.

OT: Grunt. He's a terrible replacement for Wrex, and should be murdered for that.

What, no Shepard? I wanna kill Shepard, or shall I say; The Generic Brown Hair Male I'm In Charge And I'm So Bad Protagonist Shepard that shows up in all the trailers.

Him. LET ME KILL HIM.
You can change his appearance and it carries over from Mass Effect 1 anyway. For games where appearance is customizable, it seems like a better idea to show the character as somewhat of a blank slate.

After going through Jack's romance I opt for not Jack. She's by far my favorite female in the series.

Jacob was bland. Let's free up the space for someone more interesting.
Completing Jack's romance really revealed her softer side. I only played through her romance once, but ever since I can't bring myself to hate her. In fact, I pity her.

Zaeed actually deserves it. The only reason I kept him around because I could use him. (Not that I actually used him gameplay wise. I just role-played Sheppard like she could use all the help she could get, which she does imho.) Not to mention he was already payed for.

Samara was boring and a lame-ass space paladin.
Jacob was also boring, but at least he was an al round nice guy who backs you up a couple of times against Miranda. Not to mention that his loyalty mission is quite cool.
Jack is a *****, annoying and disturbingly violent. But her loyalty mission made me sympathetic to her plight. Was glad to hear she's going to be a bit more mature in ME3.

I voted Jacob. He was the most boring character I've ever seen. I purposely killed him off in the game. I'm not sure why Jack is getting so many votes; I'd rather have an interesting nut-job on my team than a boring skilled-soldier any day. Thane definitely takes second place, though. He seemed useless once they revealed Kasumi. Don't need an thief and an assassin. Just combine them into one character/class; their skill set would be similar anyway.
I second that. I kind of wish Kasumi was a main crew member in the game instead of DLC. She certainly has the back story and interesting story bits to beat the living crap out of jack/Jacob/kaden/Ashley blandness combined. I already expect kasumi to be side lined into a camo role which to me is the biggest waste of story potential I have ever seen bioware done before.

You realize you're able to change his appearance at the beginning of the game?
Sigh.
I'm fully aware. This was a jab at how Shepard appears in the media-trailers, and that he is just another generic brownhaired douchebag.
But thanks for getting the joke.

I originally intended to put every Mass Effect Squadmate on the poll, but The Escapist only allows for eight poll options, hence why I had to combine Garrus with Legion and Miranda with Jack.

For safety's sake, Samara or Morinth (whichever one you recruited).

Samara's an uncompromising idealist, and once she's freed from her oath, she's very likely to feel compelled to punish me for some minor transgression (such as, I don't know, blowing up a Batarian planet because I had to).

As for Morinth... well, that's doing the universe a favour.

OT: I don't understand the Jack/Miranda hating. I could respect it if people didn't like them because they're both a bit cliche (and as a BG2 tragic, Viconia springs to mind). Each to their own, I suppose.

I'll say this for Jack.
As long as you don't romance (dryfuck) her, all the emo shit doesn't come out and a psycho always comes in handy. Miranda on the other hand seems some kind of arian experiment went haywire, and they spent all their chromosomes on the ass leaving non for appeal.

Must say I killed half my crew. Kelly at least dances for me.

I dont understand the Jack hate either. I felt sorry for her actually. I had to choose Jacob because of his horrible back story. "Oh no my dad left me, and when I found him he was a tool, like me." Boo hoo

Jack. Yes, she may be a 'deep character' all you want, but she was fucking unpleasant to interact with in the game. Stop. Do not reach for the quote button yet. A likeable character should not have me wanting to stomp their goddamn face in for acting like the world revolves around them and their issues. *****, we got a galaxy to save, you can brood afterwards. Doesn't help that I've met people who had a similar attitude...sweet jesus...And yes, I did her goddamn loyalty mission, but the respect gained from that was...minimal.
Also, Samara was pretty boring and fantatical about this 'justice' shit, and as some have said, likely to kill shepard becaus (s)he broke some obscure law about socks and sandals or whatevs.
Jacob was alright, he actually seemed to be the one with the least mental issues. Least, not none.
Grunt, on the other hand, was reeeally forgettable, but meh, wouldn't kill him.
Zaed may be an arse, but he's still more likeable than Jack...and actually helpful now and then.
Miranda, I played live and let live with, because frankly, she was background noise.
Tali, Garrus, Mordin and Legion are bros tho.

I try to keep everyone alive, no matter how much I hate them, but if I was forced to kill one, it'd be Jack. Not because of an irrational hatred (I do dislike her, even after her loyalty mission and all of that), I understand why she is the way she is. That doesnt change anything. I play my Shepherd as close to as possible to how I believe I would really handle the situation, and if I were in charge, Jack would never have set foot on the Normandy SR2. Give me someone more mentally stable and easier to talk and interact with. We're trying to save the galaxy here, I don't like dealing with people's problems when I didn't even want them there in the first place.

Helping out an old friend like Garrus, helping Samara destroy a highly dangerous serial murderer, or any of the other missions that help people who are already assets to the team become more effective and clear-headed are perfectly ok, and most of the loyalty missions have other benefits in the background. But helping a psycho biotic blow up the station where she was imprisoned and tortured, while an understandable endeavor, is not something I want to go out of my way to do.

tl;dr: Jack. Not because I outright hate her, but because I wouldn't have taken her on in the first place if given the choice.

... none? I really can't think of any squadmate in ME2 I'd want to kill. Jacob is the only one that I come closest to really disliking, and I'd just stick him on a shuttle to the nearest Cerberus facility.

I mean, yeah. Jacob's bland, but he's not a bad character (and I don't mean bland in the 'flatter than micron-thin paper/Bella Swan' sense. He's just... the closest thing to normal in a crew of aliens/freaks).

Jack's insane, but frankly, it's a wonder she's capable of interacting with people, period. As others have pointed out, everything about her is just a front to keep from letting her past overwhelm her (even the tattoos, it appears). And yes, she doesn't get all that better, even after her loyalty mission. Why would she? You don't get over traumatic events in a day or so, it takes quite a long time. I'm very interested to see what they might do with her in the third game.

Samara's ancient, has had a lot on her mind for the past 400 years or so. She also has to follow a strict code of conduct. She's been trying to kill one of her own children for just that long, and has had to lose her mate and other children because of it. A lot of it boils down to the fact that she's one of the most alien squadmates you'll get, and that's counting Legion. Hell, she even admits that her code can be a bit... messed up at times, but it works for her.

Miranda's a very interesting take on the idea of a 'perfect' character, and while a bit of a condescending ***** at times, it's just a personality flaw that won't go anywhere. She's also a devoted (if not somewhat misguided) sister, her loyalty mission is still one of my favorites. She thinks she knows everything, and that just makes the times when everything goes completely wrong all the more satisfying. Grunt, despite being created to look like an adult, still has the mind of an infant. It comes across very well in the game, and I loved when you could go talk to him and he started to actually understand things and form his own ideas, rather than just going on his imprinting.

As the others tend to get very little hate, I won't write up any justification for not wanting to kill them. Never got any of the DLC, so I can't say anything about Zaeed or Kasumi.

The only person I can think of wanting to see die would be Conrad Verner. And even then, only if we got to see the Eternity bartender beating him to death with his own spine. ... maybe Morinth, if the controller ever slipped and I accidentally picked her over Samara.

Jacob, never needed his worthless ass apart from for his loyalty mission.

Garrus is a badass
Legion is interesting, showing a side of the geth few thought of.
Mordin -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj0iJtgHOCI
Krogans are always handy in a fight.
Thane, always useful to have an assassin around
Tali, cus someone has to know how to reboot legion
Samara, she'll probably kill me at some point for beating up that stupid reporter.
Miranda, Pretty good at filing any reports needed.

Jack, eh, better in a fight then jacob.
