Born a perpetual mental one-year-old? What a vision of hell - one-year-olds are barely toddlers. Now, a five-year-old could probably live in relative happiness, but one doomed to the mental development of a one-year-old would be better off to reroll, if you catch my drift.

I would without a doubt abort it.

Oh, I would have it aborted. But, if it was with my current girlfriend then she would fight tooth and nail to defend it's life. So odds are I'd have to raise it, give up on that, leave her and spend the rest of my life going after hookers and always being unsatisfied.

being a teen is not an excuse, if you dont want children even if they are healty dont have sex.

I would raise him no matter what, it is the paradox of the bald guy, is a guy with no hair bald? and with one hair? and with two?

Quit, Retry, Abort?
A

The main arguments against abortion is that even if it is small, it is still alive. This argument is itself retarded, since that was never the point of contention. Of course the fetus is alive. Even bacteria are alive. The questions are at what point do we grant personhood and when that soon to be person's right to exist overshadows the parents desire to not have a child. Bearing in mind that at the moment of conception, 'it' has no brain, heart, gender, emotions, pain, brain waves, mind or self awareness. It does not know it exists, cannot feel anything and won't miss itself when it is gone. It will gradually gain those things and at some point must be recognized as a person. If it were surgically removed intact from the mother and given food, water, oxygen, medical attention and anything a person would need, it would still die. The point at which I would grant personhood is the point at which you could remove it intact and it could sustain itself. There is no one agreeable point to make that distinction, but it is less arbitrary than simply being inside the mother. In any case it would be more fair than 3rd trimester abortions with a postponed delivery date.

We have enough of these leeches on our society already, and if I had my way we would be euthanizing them. None of them are ever going to be productive members of society and dear god if you say that they aren't special little flowers that deserve our sympathy and compassion when they don't understand that they are receiving either one you need to be shot in the damn head. A productive member of society should be killed because they don't worship the retarded, that's how bad it's gotten.

Abort. That kid would be better off not being born at all then having to live the life of a conscious vegetable.

Well I'd look at it the same way I look at the issue of putting old dogs down.

With those sort of mental deficiencies and no hope of fixing their issues I would have the fetus aborted, it would be a terrible, unfulfilled life for the poor kid and it would probably be better for them to be in the hands of God before their (in this case) living death starts than having to go through such a life.

As hard as this seems Abortion is the best way for this to be sorted. However unlike the creater of this thread of finds it his own commitment to this child would be the problem, its the child I am thinking of. What kind of life could this child lead? I know its cruel but all the child could do would be take resources. Abortion is a method that is like a miscarrige, and all it is really is a cluster of cells, it doesn't have its own living thinking conciousness yet, an embrio, a fetus, not yet a person.

I do also agree with points made in earlier posts, it would be difficult because this would be a lifetime commitment you could never escape if you chose to have the child, and this would feel like enslavement, however the child is a part of each of you, and maybe if this was thrown at me, if this actually happened, maybe I would choose to keep it, but logically the best thing for all people involved Abortion is by far the most logically sound choice.

Actually, being a teen had nothing to do with my answer, was just trying to explain my viewpoint better. I could be 30 for all I care, my answer is still the same.

I was a false positive for major mental issues.
I was going to be aborted, but then a re-test said I was fine.

Makes you think.
Wow..That really does make you think.
Yeah, it should be a given that you'll get a second opinion on something like this. Maybe even a third or fourth for good measure.

I'd definitely have it. My people's offspring have to kill their parents. It would be good to have an advantage.
It's less an advantage, and more Dr. Manhattan versus the average person. Hell, you could just not feed them and win...

I'm not sure if I would give it up for adoption or have it aborted... I can barely tolerate children as it is, let alone one that would have severe mental retardation. Call me a bad person, but that's just how I feel.

Oh... Now that's just cruel.
No, this is cruel:

Besides, it wouldn't be cruel if I said that about a regular 1 year old.
