I've returned wallets on 3 occasions with over 100$ in them. But money outside a wallet lying on the ground? no way is the original person ever going to get it back even if you bring it into the cops. Finders keepers.

Pocket that stuff without a second thought.

Hellooooo Jackson Twins.

Though tack on that second zero then, and I'd probably THINK about keeping it, though probably just find a way to ahnd it in somewhere. or, failing that find one of those little charity things and give it all right to 'em.

CHA CHING.

Seriously, if they're isolated notes how would you ever even find the owner? Now if I'd found a wallet I'd return it... but I'd pocket the cash in it first.

well if it's just money i'd take it, because the chance of the person who actually lost it finding it are slim, but if it's an actual wallet or purse then i always turn them in

-in Wallet; return to police station/contact owner if possible

-See someone lose it; run after them like a crazy person.

-40 EURO, just laying there, minding its own business; YOINK

In my view, anyone who turns money they found in at a police station is a twit. I mean really, who's going to have legitimate claim to a wad of cash? May as well keep it.

I would hang on to it, take it to the nearest money exchange and change it into pounds when I had time.

Take it and by my family dinner or buy some video games. If it's in a wallet I'd turn it in.

Keep it. The details that influenced my decision are the amount of money and how long it was there. (40 and really long). Whoever lost it is long gone, and 40 isn't enough to turn in. If it was 200 I'd turn it in.

Wonder Who was carrying $40+ around in the north of england.

Then cry because I don't think I'll be able to exchange it without proof of purchasing the foreign currency in the first place.

Might use it to claim I've finally been to the US.

I think my turning point when I have to turn it in is $50, so I'd keep this one. Especially if it's worn.

If it's a wallet or something like that, or a bigger sum, I'd turn it in, though.

But like stated, it's old and worn.. and I wouldn't want that money to get so lonely out there...

They're probably afraid, scared, maybe even in a panic. I couldn't stand that. I'd have to do something. I'd have to pick them up, warm them up, and give them a nice, gently home in my wallet, where they'll be nice and safe against the warm, leather walls. Not like there's any other money in there, so the two $20 bills will have each other, in a warm home, with no one else to bother them.

They'll spend a nice few days, cuddled up together, relaxing, maybe having a nice chat with my credit card or drivers license. Maybe even a few new bills would accompany them and they could have a nice little party. Enjoy themselves and have a grand time.

Then the day would come when that money simply must be spent. But since the bills were found together, I'd wanna keep them together. So I'd probably go out at some point and go food shopping and make sure to buy at least $40 worth. I'd reach the register and give the cashier the two $20's, a little afraid of where they were headed. They'd suddenly find themselves stacked up with other bills, and excited to see so many familiar faces!

The two bills would get to know their new friends over the course of the next few days, and meet new friends as they're added into the mix. They'd become good friends with some, best friends with others, meet some strange, new friends called 'coins', and have even more fun times.

Then the day would come when that money has to go to the bank. The bills would be strapped into bundles and taken quite a ways. They're not afraid, though, because they're surrounded by the friends they've made over the days. The money would eventually end up in a large bank vault, filled with friends, and new friends to make. A massive vault filled with money and endless amounts of fun to be had. The bills would be so happy. They have each other, their friends, and endless possibilities.

...Er, might have gotten a bit off-topic there.

But yeah...

tl;dr: I'd keep it.

Sheer dumb luck just paid for Torchlight 2 and Dawnguard, as far as I'm concerned. Hell, if it was 200$, it just paid for a few more goodies, too.

EDIT: As for the cash being in a wallet, I would probably turn it in at that point. But if a couple 20$ bills are floating around in the breeze, I'd snatch em and make for the nearest Best Buy.

Lets be reasonable here, I know every damn person on this planet would pocket that cash, ESPECIALLY if there were no cars around. The people at the police station would just laugh at you if you handed $40 in.

Keep it. It's just a loose note and better it be spent on video games than alcohol or crack.

Loose cash (as in no wallet, no bag, no-one nearby obviously looking for it) is finders keepers as far a I'm concerned. What are the police/nearest shopkeeper meant to do with it exactly? It'll just be going straight in the till or whatever the police equivalent is.

My sister found £20 in town once and handed it into a nearby shop, the fool. If she would've felt too guilty keeping it I would have happily taken it off her hands :p
