You find a mysterious box floating on its own for no apparent reason, it has a switch, a knob and a button. What do you do?
This depends entirely on the specifics of the object: What kind of switch is it? a lightswitch? a flick toggle? a large toggle, like in mystery men/frankenstein?
What are the proportions of the knob? is the diameter the size of my palm, or smaller? is the edge smooth, or ridged?
Is the button a rubbery bulb? a low, concave button like on an arcade cabinet? a computer key? what?

The answer to those questions will drastically affect my own answer

CAPTCHA: I'm sorry

finally im getting an apology for this bullshit

The button, it's shiny.

PRESS IT! YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO!
You are so going to hell for that.

I would carefully analyze the box first, in the form of pulling the lever (surely it can be pushed up again, right?).

There is no "Other" but I shall stick to the tried and true method that has worked for my D&D character, When confronted with a strange macguffin hit it with your axe.

Hint: Everyone dies regardless of what you choose.
Not true, it is floating merely to draw attention to it, to get someone to interact with it.
So you're saying that this box has a mind of its own?

Can I tie a string to it and use it as a square balloon?
I've never realized my desire to have a perfectly square balloon until just now.

I'd flip the switch because that seems the most likely to me to be the power switch. Then I'd expect it to do a little light-show and give me instructions on how to use the button and knob. heh heh....knob.

i'd leave it alone. I'd walk past it but, still stare at it until it's out of my field of vision

I'd get the Doctor to wave his sonic screwdriver at it.

Because let's face it. If you're walking along and you see a floating box with various controls on it, you're probably in a Doctor Who episode, and you're probably one of his companions. Either that or you're a one-shot character, in which case you will probably melt horribly within the next five minutes.

Press/turn/flick all three. Curiosity. If this box is as nondescript as you've made it...might as well.

Pull switch! If it falls to the ground (switches tend to cut power), I can pull it apart and see what's inside!

...more so that the creator of the box wanted it to draw attention

I'll push the button first, flip the switch and then push the button, then I'll turn the nob all the way it'll go and then push the button. Then I'll flip the switch back and push the button. I might hold the button down and then turn the nob.
