I'm honest and let them know I have nothing to give, if I were richer? sure i'd help
back when I was working full time I used to buy the big issue of a homeless dude and get him a pasty from greggs, ended up bumping into him when I went back to college, he was there studying too, best feeling ever!
Wow, man, that's great!

Anyway, I try to give them some money if I have any. I never really thought of giving them food. If they asked for a smoke I'd give them one too.

Set them on fire.

It's a public service.
Perhaps, but people take offense to smouldering corpses; it might ruin their new handbags or shoes.
You can't make an omlette without executing a few bystanders.
...I don;t wanna try your cooking then.
Hey, my waffles are totally worth the dozen orphans I throttle to death in the process of making them.

Depends what I have, and what situation I'm in.

Assuming it's my current situation (parents can't legally kick me out 'til next year) I'd give them food if I had some, and any money I could spare (as in keeping enough for any forseeable costs in the near future).

About once a month i give something when i got some change, or if hey are quite young and seem actually nice (= not totally fucked up junkheads). Beeing young myself i can sympathize with them way better, i probably wouldnt get into a conversation with some older homeless people, just out of the honest fact that i get quite disgusted by the smell and look of most of them, there are exceptions of course but only very rare, i remember an old man, who asked very politely for a cigarette, i was actually a little bit ashamed that i made up a story to refuse the sip of his wine he offered me, strange ey? he told me about some drunk assholes coming out of a pub who jumped on his guitar when he was asleep in the entrance of a shop a night not long ago, such things make me sick. But if its a troubled teen or twen on the streets and they behave alright it might happen that i have a lil talk with them, giving away a pack of cigarettes and a little money. Not very often though, me to is not made of money.

I am a blasphemous Atheist and Major league Sinner, so i have to save me at least a little bit of purgatory right? :p

The city I'm in actually passed anti-panhandling laws that prohibits panhandling and giving them money.

It really depends on what they look like or how seriously they need something. I'm not going to just give someone money. I rarely even lend my friends money.

I've offered to get someone something to eat though. Sometimes they're grateful for it. Sometimes they're not. Although one time, I did buy about two gallons of gas for someone that had run out of gas. I don't mind helping people, as long as they help themselves, so as a general rule, I don't give anything to beggars.

Ignore 'em. If I'm going to help the disadvantaged it'll be towards someone in a third world country where my meagre contribution has a genuine chance of making a difference, rather than going on booze or covering half a pot-noodle.

Stab him in the neck with my hidden dagger.
In truth I have never encountered a homeless person, but if I did I would give money. Otherwise i'd spend the rest of they day feeling like a complete douchebag and I hate that feeling.

Hmm...depends. If i see a person that seems healthy enough to work and earn his own money, i´ll feel less inclined to give him/her my hard earned money. A lot of «poor» kids beg for money in my hometown, but if you offer to buy them food they´ll refuse.

I give people money sometimes. Although in the back of my mind I'm wondering what is really going on here.

For a country with a fairly comprehensive welfare system, there are altogether too many homeless people around.

Are they falling through the cracks?

Did they choose to be there?
I don't really know what to think.

In any event, I often ignore them. I just don't have enough money to deal with passing an average of 6 homeless people every time I step out my door.

I can barely pay my bills as it is.

It's difficult to be charitable when you yourself are barely getting by financially.

...How can you throttle someone to death making a waffle? o.o
Oh sure, I tell you and suddenly my secret for making the world's best waffles is all over the net and the price for a dozen orphans goes throgh the fucking roof as certain franchises corner the market for them.

Ignore them. Simply because I don't have a regular income high enough to be nice to everybody that wants money from me.
Also because there are many beggars who are unemployed for no reason but their lazyness, and instead of getting money from the state like every other lazy person does in Germany, they decide to sit on a plastic bag on a crowded sidewalk with their CHILDREN (?!?!) to look as helpless as possible. Funny thing is that they make about 150? per about 6-7 hours which is way more than the money they would get from the state.
And because I can't tell the difference, the real beggars just don't get money from me.

Except for this one dude without any legs who plays the keyboard under the train station bridge, he really doesnt do anything else except for sitting there day after day, so I see him quite often.

I don't count musicians to beggars, so if someone is standing in the streets and making some music, it depends on whether or not I like the music, and strangely, If I'm alone or not.
I think I'm more generous when I'm on my own, even though I would expect the opposite.

Screw them. They could go get a job if they weren't lazy worthless wastes of space... It may sounds cruel but there are government funded programs out there designed for just this.

I generally ignore beggars but I'll happily buy from a Big Issue seller.

I'm considerably less sympathetic when it comes to the beggars in Assassin's Creed. Particularly those sodding bards. Punch. Hard. In. Face.

99.99% of the time I give them a bit of money I have. I have two jobs and have a nice house to live in - it would be awful selfish of me to ignore someone who doesn't. Any one of us could end up in that situation I think.
