I'd shoot him. If I could fire the goddamn gun. Knowing me, I'd screw it up somehow. I'd kill to defend myself or my family. Besides, the guy would kill us all and probably escape and shoot more people.

She fails then. I think I learnt more by that than I ever did whilst doing science at school. Seriously, we grew turnips all year.
Seriously? Let's see, you're around 18, then you'd be in Year 10 or 11, right?

Anyway, yes I'd have to say that your science teacher definitely fails. If it's any consolation, my English teacher was bloody horrible. We didn't learn a thing all year, she basically just went over everything we'd learned about five or six years prior.
The education system must be different in Canada. I left school for good 2 weeks ago, I was in year 13. This was in year 11, so when I was 16. We once had a dyslexic English teacher; our school always pick the good ones.

simple, thou shalt not kill is a miss interpretation of thou shalt not commit murder, self defense/defense of others does not count as murder, case closed asshole dead story over.

As a religious person I would, if I could aim for the gun arm, but that's just me saying that in a calm state.

In the middle of the action, It's a no brainer. He threatens to kill my family and me unless I kill him first. Well I would pull the trigger, probably carving a hole in his skull in the process.

Self-defense isn't a crime, I personally think that hesitating to kill someone that's actually threatening your life isn't very smart (unless you somehow deserved it or had it coming... like a super villain or you actually did something horrible to the guy threatening you.) Killing someone for your own protection or that of others is NOT murder.

Long story short, Religious and I would pull the trigger.

Yeah, we generally have the same system as the US. Kindergarten and then grades 1-12. So, kind of similar to the system in the UK, they just go by different names I suppose.

But yes, I know what you mean. My former high school generally picked okay teachers, the ones I had anyway. But the English teachers they picked were always just horrendous. Which makes it rather odd that I plan to be a writer.

I can't respond to this situation, because i can't envision a situation, where i'd adopt a no-exception belief system.

Kill the fucker.
Hurt my family and I'll make your death look like an accident.

Well, obviously.

Dying isn't high on my priority list, and not doing so would result in the deaths of people I presumably care about.

I sure as hell wouldn't enjoy doing it though. Probably need counselling afterwards :/

To dodge the question I would just shoot him in the gun arm, or the leg.
My science teacher told me shooting someone in the leg is the worst place to shoot them, a main artery is in your leg or something.
Tis true, we've got arteries in our thigh and our ankles, and shooting someone in the kneecaps has gotta be the most debilitating way of not killing someone (and very, very painful of course).

Alrighty then, time for a question about your morals to brighten up your day!
So...

An armed man bursts into your house holding a gun in his hand. He rounds you and your family up and tells you he's going to kill you and your family right now.
Now, you happen to have a fully loaded gun right by you at the time. You pick it up; hold it in your hands.
Here's the dilemma.

You have no option to shoot the intruder's foot or any other part of the body that will only wound him. You either kill him or he kills you and your family. Now, it goes against all your moral and religious beliefs to murder another human being dead (for the sake of this question, let's say that you are of a religion that disapproves of this), would you shoot the intruder dead to save your family? Or die upholding your beliefs?

That is the question I ask you, Escapists.
I'm gonna get pedantic here - if you pick up the gun and point it at your assailant and he DOESN'T immediately fire the gun at you and your family - chances are he isn't going to, or doesn't really want to, so shooting him in the gun shoulder and kicking the gun away would be the best course of action.

I'd shoot him.

I do have some morals and beliefs but my family's lives are at stake here and that's what's most important here. I live for them, and I'd kill for them.

I shoot him, whether it's against my beliefs or not. Hell, I don't have the RIGHT to sacrifice the lives of my family, or the lives of anyone else, for my own morals/ethics/religion. If it was just me... well i'd still shoot him, but my point stands!

Actually no. If the bullet hits the femoral artery there's still a chance that the person can survive if you can get a tourniquet on and slow or stop the blood flow, get medical attention, etc.
Realistically, that's not very likely though. If it's bad enough that they're knocked out, they're screwed. If you're conscious, they're not likely to accept help from the person who sot them.
While yes, in this specific scenario I agree with you in that they'd be thoroughly screwed. I was just talking about the two injuries in general, and that someone who had their femoral artery damaged could still be saved if they received proper medical attention quickly enough versus someone who had been shot in the head.

well that's a pretty stupid question. i especially like how you cannot wound him, yet your religion forbids the murder of this man. why not just ask what moral is to a person?

I would shoot the intruder. This is not something that I have taken lightly, it required soul searching and making a moral choice as to whether or not I can take a life to save my own. It is not a choice I recommend for everyone, but the path I have chosen for myself.

Also, I do have a pistol on the head of my bed, and another pistol in my computer desk (that is the one I use for Conceal Carry).

Could there be an option to be able to plant a few rounds in the major joints? Thats what I'd go for, then I'd take the burglar round to my friends Z's house and leave him to it.
But what if Z's dead, baby? What if Z's dead?
You've got me at a loss there, but I guess I could always steal his motorbike.

Also, why the FUCK would I have a gun if using it is against my beliefs?
Pretty much the reason why this thread fails right here.
It really failed when he told us what our beliefs were!

It's a hypothetical scenario. The problem is that it doesn't make sense.
