Whats your determination level for videogames?. I would say I'm the type who can conquer almost anything since I'm determinated, I just lack some skill.

Lock the target indeed, Inglip. I'll remember your advice.

Takes a long while for me to rage, and I'm a well-honed gamer with more than two decades of experience. Bring it on.

I get frustrated pretty easily on things that are either control-snappingly difficult, or just out-and-out broken at times. Given a few unsuccessful goes at it, I'll end up quitting to do something "FUN", and eventually come back and beat the daylights out of it, going "Wait, why was this hard, again?" It's kinda funny that way.

EDIT: Honestly, I probably should have said "a few tries and I'm out", but given the return factor, I think "I can almost conquer anything", so there. :p

It's not just determination but how invested I am in the game, that will drive me to see it through. For example, I didn't give two shits about MW2 story campaign as I had only bought that game for the multiplayer and couldn't be arsed to finish it after dieing about 4 times in a row on a particualr mission. Whereas Dragon Age: Orgins repeatedly handed my ass to me, particularly in Orzammar but I was very invested in the story and I was actually having fun with the gameplay (when I wasn't dieing for bullshit reasons) so much so that I refused to submit to the darkspawn.

I can get good at any genre I decide to get into. That pretty much sums it up.

I can conquer any game as long as the game in question's difficulty is legit. By legit I mean that the difficulty isn't due to broken mechanics (even then I'll give it the old college try) or due to the game being a practical joke (e.g. I Want To Be The Guy, Dwarf Fortress, etc.)

I think I can conquer anything I put my mind to and have fun playing shmups but I dont have the same drive with every game I play, especially other genres that I like playing casually for the lols and just want an easy ride

Depends on the game. If it's something good like Super Metroid or Witcher 2, I enjoy the challenge. If it isn't, I get bored and do something else.

Im very picky on which games I pick to play for the challenge. If im to be 100% motivated to beat it then the game had better be a solid game with no broken gameplay elements or loopholes so cheaters or sucky gamers can take advantage of.

Thats why I tend to prefer retro arcade game genres that come from Japan since if its one thing the Japanese are good at, its making games that are well balanced for challenge gaming. Most modern games especially those by western developers really are rubbish for challenge gaming. They tend to be overly complex and riddled with bugs and loopholes which allow less skilled gamers who abuse them to come out on top of more skilled games who play the games in a more skillful manner.

Achievements, Trophies etc are a prime example of lame challenge gaming where a noob can just buy whatever games give the easiest and quickest points where as the truly skilled gamer might spend months obtaining a single achievement. Imo traditional highscore leaderboards for individual games are better but even those can be open to abuse in some cases. Especially for PC where someone could be running a mod or even have application like Fraps running in the background so that the game runs at 50% speed

Depends on the game.

I'll happily try to beat a level on Super Meat Boy 'till the end of time, because when I die it feels fair, painful, but not cheap in the slightest. However if it feels cheap and undeserved if I die in a game, I'll stop trying pretty quickly.

I also quit pretty quickly in games where you have to figure out how you're supposed to proceed in the game. Call me stupid, but I don't want to have to figure out how to play a game before I can gt to the actual gameplay bit.

Yes I'm looking at you "The Witcher".

Challenge rarely puts me off a game, even if I'm not really having fun. Although in my case I wouldn't call it "determination" so much as stubbornness.

However, boredom and general shitiness are another matter. They ensured that I only played about an hour of The Witcher.

If I'm enjoying the story and/or (most of) the gameplay I'll grit my teeth and force my way on when the difficulty spikes. If I'm not, I won't.

Recent-ish examples - I slogged my way through the boss battles in Prototype because I was enjoying the game. I quite Dragon Age: Origins because I kept getting slaughtered in routine fights but I wasn't enjoying it enough to persist until I got better.

Punishing difficulty (ex lives) and insane difficulty (ex I wanna be the guy) I can't stand; I'm fine with the other kinds and can be pretty determined on occasion, but this depends on how good the game is not just how hard it is.

I play for fun. I'll try my best and I don't mind a fair challenge, but if fun starts to turn into frustration I'm grabbing a guide.
