Who is your favorite protagonist from the GTA series. I've only included the protagonists from GTA games I myself have played in the poll; but feel to include any you want.

My favorite would be Niko Bellic with Jimmy Hopkins placing a close second.

Not a fan of either in GTA or Bully.
I'd put my vote on John Marston, but I don't care much for him either.

Nico is probably going to win this which I think is ludicrous. I've never played a game where the protagonist's sentiment and his action in gameplay were more far apart than Nico Bellic. It's hard to sympathize with a man who, in cutscenes, talks of redemption, but because of how gameplay is designed, can't help but run over 6 old ladies every time he takes the wheel.

Claude on the other hand didn't exist in a Liberty that had moral high ground. He was dark and indifferent and soulless. Just like the Liberty and the people around him.

GIANT TEN POUND EDIT: I thought this thread was strictly about GTA and not Rock Star. Not having John Marston as an option is the injustice of the century. JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON JOHN MARSTON

OP, if you wanted answers exclusively related to GTA, you may want to rename your thread to reflect that, as the '/Rockstar' part opens the discussion to all games made by Rockstar, of which there are quite a few, as GTA is not the only game series Rockstar develops.
Also, an 'Other' option for the poll would be nice.

With that said, my vote goes for John Marston. I love the big lug, but then again, I love pretty much everything about Red Dead Redemption. It's rare to see a righteous character done well to the point where I give a damn if he succeeds or not. Plus, he's a badass.

Niko Bellic, then John Marston, then Jimmy Hopkins, then maybe Cole Phelps (can I count him? I'm not sure how much impact Rockstar had on the development of that game as opposed to just publishing it). Max Payne's pretty great too. CJ is probably my least favourite on the list, honestly. Not an interesting character; that game's main asset was its setting, and then its secondary characters, not its protagonist.

I freaking loved Tommy Vercetti, I'm not sure what it is. Is it Ray Liotta's voice behind his psychopathic rants? Is it the psychopathic rants themselves? The heavy Tony Montana/Scarface influence? Maybe it's because he's just brutally honest with who he is and what he wants, without trying to spin justice and morality into his violent actions? Probably all of those actually.

Definitely CJ. I loved the game and CJ was the best character for me because he was very sympathetic and had a great character arc. You could really believe that he changed from a order taking gangbanger to a more or less legal Businessman.

There was no rift between game play and cut-scene like with niko or the cartoonish scarface imitations Claude and Thomi were.

Another vote for John Marston. Even in the hellhole that was Mexico in RDR (what's wrong with roads that actually go to places where people want to be?), I wanted to continue because of John.

Jimmy Hopkins by default.

Most hated is probably John Marston. Or should I say, most aggravating. You're an infamous badass in the lawless West, and yet you're everyone's footstool, even a freaking necrophiliac's. Throughout the whole game Marston just takes orders from everyone and their grandma, and never once takes matters into his own hands. In an open-world game where you can be an outlaw and shoot anyone this is just goddamn frustrating.

I voted for cj, but my heart is with John Marston. John is one of my favourite fictional characters in general

I loved CJ and Tommy but i have to go with Tommy. I think the fact that he's voiced by Ray Liotta helps that. I never liked Nico, i always saw him as just a yes-man who just agrees to everything when Tommy really is someone who as a goal and who is trying to get to his goal and CJ is just a cool guy coming from a tough background.
