As I said before, I think it's a good thing there's no Gordon Freeman. I like the Half-Life games and all, but not having him in this actually makes people think about it.

I have it torn between Isaac Clarke, Chell from Portal, Jack from Bioshock and the Rookie from ODST. Largely though I'm going to go with the Rookie because he's in an understandably dangerous situation alone behind enemy lines trying to piece things together by himself. Isaac is sort of the same, being haunted by visions of a loved one so I can get an idea of how he must be feeling. Chell and Jack also have certain complex motivations based around who they are and what their origins are, given that Jack was created in a science experiment and Chell just wakes up one day in a lab.
So yeah, those are my favourites.

Interestingly, due to the lack of cutscenes, reflective surfaces or the ability to see your legs when you look down, there is no in game evidence that Freeman is anything more than a floating pair of hands.
