For -super-heroes I would go with Wolverine or Deadpool.Love how their character and attitude.

On the "normal" side of the spectrum,as in no superpowers I would definitely go with Batman.

I'm gonna have to go with Deadpool. Great combat skills, funny personality, and he knows "the truth". He may not be the strongest, quickest, or smartest, but I doubt you would hear something like this: "Pwangg?" Trees don't go "Pwangg--" Llamas don't go "Pwangg--" Nothing found in nature goes "Pwangg", which means -- we're officially hip deep in the smelly stuff." from another superhero.

hellboy. i don't care what people might say, he's in a comic book, and he saves the world. he's a hero, and he definitely isn't mortal, so he's super in some aspects. so he's a superhero.

I like the Punisher the most here's why in real life super heros would be breaking the law because you have to follow a system you can't just go around sending people to jail(bureaucracy for ya) and the Punisher has no intent on pretending hes in the right. Oh and also this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6EKBWVQYRY this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yc-vm9BIA4&feature=related oh an don't forget this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPi-tnJMscc&feature=related

I used to be a huge Spiderman fan, and I still like him, but I think Batman has risen to my favorite.
I admire his discipline and the idea that through that discipline and a lot of rigorous training, one could become what he is, and by extension anything else.

Alex Mercer...best superhero ever conceived. Lifting tanks with his bare hands and tentacle-ing helicopters is badass. Plus, his version of New York is over-run by zombies. Also, he's kind of in a grey area morally...no over the top good guy antics.

Superman, easily. Theres so much pointless, childish cynicism in comics these days *coughmarkmillarcough* that good, honest idealism is probably the most refreshing thing I can imagine.

Plus, just how "perfect and godlike" he is tends to get a bit overblown. I usually find that people who say that Superman is boring and invincible have never read any Superman comics.

First off I'd like to say that it's spelt as "Spider-Man". I like Spider-Man since he's a smart guy and thinks out his moves and he's always willing to put others before himself.

Batman writers tell the best stories of any superhero I've read as a whole so he gets my vote.

I actually enjoy some of the individual stories told in X-men more...but they aren't focused on only one superhero.

Of course I base my knowledge of superheroes entirely on visual medium...I've only read about 10 or so comics in my life and all I remember from them is that Thor is hilarious.

I don't mean to flame or anything, but did anyone ever doubt that batman would be the clear winner of this poll? After all he is "the most capable fictional character since Jesus..." and with that, a particularly funny man once noted that as secret identities go, being "billionaire Bruce Wayne" is just plain badass.

...but then again I liked Robin, the apparent Scrappy Doo of Batman, so what do I know :p

Pre-Flashpoint it was Martian Manhunter, but they kind of drained all the charm out of him when they stuck him in Stormwatch, and how he has to be an all business bad ass type, which is really boring.

Post-Flashpoint, Attrocitus. Okay, so the leader of the ridiculously violent Red Lantern Corps may not be a traditional superhero by any stretch of the imagination. Still, he is fighting with some sort of moral goal in mind. Granted, it's to exact his rage on those who deserve it, but still! Considering that he's the leader of the Red Lanterns (most of whom are mindlessly violent monsters), Attrocitus is surprisingly philosophical, which I for one happen to really like.

Dr.Strange never read the comic books but I he was awesome in Marvel Ultimate Alliance and I was cheesed when they didn't put him in MUA2. The animated movie was really good too. Deadpool is of course a close close second.

The Hulk!

Yeah, he's more of a force of nature than a hero. But hear me out.

Take Superman. The last son of Krypton, delivered to a humble family and raised to be goodness personified, a living symbol of what mankind can aspire to be.

Now take the Hulk. A creation of mankind's mistakes, sympathetic but dangerous, tragic and flawed. He can be every bit as dangerous and destructive as the forces that oppose him.

Superman is God. He comes down from the heavens to deliver us from evil. His power is almost absolute and he will never faulter in his duty.

The Hulk is defiance. He is mankind raging against everything that tries to hurt it. He will not be defeated, he will not be stopped, he will fight harder and harder until he finally has peace. And while that force can be dangerous, he is balanced by the other side of humanity: Bruce Banner, who like the Hulk is a tragic figure, flawed, but ultimately only wanting peace.

And as flawed as he is, I would rather have the Hulk than Superman. Strange as it sounds we can learn something from Hulk's defiance, we can see ourselves reflected in his rage and know we are flawed, but can also be a force for good. Superman may be a symbol of good, but we have yet to learn any real lesson from him other than the belief that he will always be there to save the day for us.
